###### ###### Call for Submissions I
################## Issue 14
######## July 25, 1996=20
=20
This posting serves to formally open the call for submissions for Commodo=
re
Hacking #14, which will be published before or on September 2nd, 1996. T=
he=20
deadline for submissions is August 20, 1996. Submission guidelines are
available at http://www.msen.com/~brain/pub/c-hacking-submit.txt or from
the C=3DHacking MAILSERV (send c-hacking-submit.txt). All of the columns=
and
departments in Issue 13 will be retained, and new ones will be added.
=20
Commodore Hacking is soliciting articles from developers that will be
receiving the first shipments of the CMD SUperCPU accelerator, as well as=
=20
those developers and users who regularly view or produce Commodore inform=
ation
via the World Wide Web. In addition, C=3DHacking is looking for writers =
to=20
write the columns appearing in each issue.
We encourage all to help keep this quality magazine a vital reference man=
ual
for programmers and users alike by submitting your article or article ide=
a=20
today.
Jim Brain,
Commodore Hacking Editor.
Commodore Hacking Description:
Commodore Hacking (C=3DHacking) is an online magazine that covers technic=
al=20
programming on all Commodore 8-bit computers, with emphasis on the CBM 64=
and
CBM 128 machines. Articles typically include commented assembly language=
=20
source code or complete schematics. Compared to the now defunct Transact=
or
magazine, C=3DHacking picks up where that magazine left off.
Described as one of the most technical publications available for the=20
Commodore systems, Commodore Hacking is a magazine for the entire Commodo=
re=20
community. The magzazine contains articles submitted by noted personalit=
ies=20
on the Internet and other networks, and the entire publication is made=20
available on the Internet and other networks free of charge to all reader=
s. =20
Past articles have covered subjects as diverse as burst reading on the 15=
71=20
and 1581 drives, reading IBM disks on the Commodore 128, memory managemen=
t,=20
and graphical demo techniques. Although geared towards the intermediate =
to=20
advanced programmer and hardware designer, articles are presented in a fo=
rmat=20
that can be understood by beginners.
Each issue is packed full of in-depth articles describing ways to push th=
e=20
Commodore computer to the technical limit of operation, from displaying 3=
-D=20
graphics real-time on the 64 to implementing a multitasking operating sys=
tem=20
on the 128. In addition, some articles deal with more down to earth topi=
cs,=20
like how to build an RS-232 converter, how to install a second SID chip, =
and=20
how to program the RAM Expansion Unit. =20
Commodore Hacking can be found on the WWW at=20

In light of this post, how do folks propose I change the distribution of =
the
magazine. Evidently, this ARMM system will make publication of C=3DH and
others like DisC=3Dovery impossible via the newsgroup.=20
As the FAQ maintainer (and the pseudo-contact person, though not really),
I suppose I can ask that this newsgroup be excluded from the ARMM
check list by marking it so. =20
However, I will not act until I hear from some of th regulars and
new users of this group.
To state the obvious:
Commodore Hacking has traditionally been posted to the newsgroup as well
as made available via email to present to the largest possible audience
of Commodore owners. Certain users either cannot receive large messages
via email, while others simply do not have reliable email access.
Most do not have either FTP or WWW access. In the beginning, there was n=
o
binaries newsgroup to post to, and I am somewhat unconvinced there is
one currently.
This magazine has been presented in comp.sys.cbm since 1991, when Craig
Taylor posted the first issue.
For the moment, those who would like to read the latest issue can access
it from http://www.msen.com~brain/pub/iss13.txt
As well, users can access the file from the Commodore Hacking MAILSERV
server.

Hiya... I think maybe the cart youre after is called an ACTION REPLAY
cart, and pretty much does everything you said, plus heaps more. I sold
mine a while ago, but there are still some floating around, but they aint
cheap. There are different versions, you pretty much dont want anything
pre V5 :-)
Youre welcome...

That means your 5 volt power is going away. usually, its the bridge rect=
ifier (4-legged=20
device at the right rear of the circuit board), though sometimes its the =
5-volt requlator. =20
Get ahold of some "freeze spray" and spray the rectifier when the drive s=
tarts free-running. =20
If it then stops, you've found the problem.

Here it is, a little terminal emulator for Commodore 64.
It has 80 charachters per line, full VT100 emulation,=20
(RS232C interface required) max. speed 2400 bps.
I didn't finish upload & download routines, and probably
never will, 'coz i really dont have time to do that.
The problem also is, that I never had a disk-drive, only tape.
Asembler sux, all written in Monitor 49152, am I masochist ? ;)
This piece of shit was written before 11 months, but i couldn't
upload it on net until my friend found a way to do that.
Sorry for my terrible English. ;)

Hello there,
I am trying to get hold of either a Commodore 64 printer interface,
or the circuit diagram for a Commodore 64 printer interface.
I need to connect a Commodore 64 to an Amstrad Printer with a standard
centronics interface.
If anyone can help me, I would be greatly appreciative.
If possible, I need to know before Sunday 28th July.
Please e-mail me if you have any information,
Thank you for reading.

I forgot to say, I'm from Europe, so this is a PAL version, i'm not

If your 128D is the metal case, it prob. has 64K, else it has 16. Look at=
the chip
numbers for 41464. Means 4 bits by 64K, 41416 means 4 bits by 16K.

Or the best would be to get the JiffyDos from CMD, as that one works with
almost everything. Something the EPYX and e.g Action Replay doesnt. But i=

you are into other functions, then the Action Replay and Snapshots are th=

preferrable ones.

Yeah... And when these things get rare, the price might just go up
again...
The CBM 8050 drive I bought Monday, well, there was a magazine with it
"Pet-nyheterna" ("Pet News" in Swedish), in which it showed the price
of it in 1981. It was then priced at 14995 SEK, which -- using today's
SEK-USD exchange rates -- would be about 1900 USD... :-)

Hello!
I am currently sitting on quite a number of old c64 disks, whose contents
I want to convert to PC or Amiga for easy backup.=20
Since these are really quite a lot of disks, I am looking for a very
fast transfer that preferably outputs a .D64 archive file. When I looked
at the AmiNET archives, I found that "1541.lha" was actually the program
that suits my needs. The problem is that I cannot get a 5.25" external=20
disk drive for my amiga anywhere.
Does anyone
- know where to get a 5.25" external drive for the amiga?
- know how to connect a PC 5.25" drive to the Amiga?
- know of other real fast ways to convert c64 disks to PC or Amiga?
- have a collection of hardware schematics (e.g. diskdrive speeders plan=
s,
freezer cartridge plans) on the internet, or wants to put up some?
Has anyone
- already made experience with "1541.lha" and can tell how good it worke=
d?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Yours,
Alex.
