  15.             Don't give up now, Doctor.  Patience 
  16.             has its rewards.  Now listen 
  17.             carefully.

  19.     Garak pauses to marshal his dwindling strength.

  23.             Elim wasn't my aide.  He was... my 
  24.             friend.  We grew up together... We 
  25.             were closer than brothers.  For some 
  26.             reason, Enabran Tain took a liking 
  27.             to us... Before long, Elim and I 
  28.             were both powerful men in the Obsidian 
  29.             Order... They called us the "Sons of 
  30.             Tain." Even the Guls feared us.  And 
  31.             then...
  32.                 (tries to summon the 
  33.                 energy to continue)
  34.             There was a scandal.  Someone in the 
  35.             order was accused of letting some 
  36.             Bajoran prisoners escape.  There 
  37.             were constant rumors of who was going 
  38.             to be implicated... fingers were 
  39.             being pointed at me...

  41.     Garak is both physically and mentally drained and these 
  42.     memories are the most painful of all.

  46.             By then Tain had retired to the 
  47.             Arawath Colony.  He couldn't protect 
  48.             me.  So I panicked.  I did everything 
  49.             in my power to make sure Elim would 
  50.             be blamed instead of me.  I planted 
  51.             evidence... altered records... only 
  52.             to discover that he'd beaten me to 
  53.             it.
