  7.             Elim destroyed me.  Before I'd 
  8.             realized what was going on, I'd been 
  9.             sentenced to exile.
  10.                 (sour laugh)
  11.             And the irony is... I deserved it.  
  12.             Not for the reasons they claimed, 
  13.             but because of what I'd tried to do 
  14.             to Elim.  My best friend.
  15.  
  16.     Despite his skepticism, Bashir is moved.
  17.  
  18.                     BASHIR
  19.             Garak, why are you telling me this?
  20.  
  21.     Garak reaches out and takes hold of Bashir's hand.
  22.  
  23.                     GARAK
  24.                 (growing weaker)
  25.             So you can forgive me, Doctor... Why 
  26.             else?  I need to know someone forgives 
  27.             me.
  28.  
  29.     A beat.  Bashir still can't be sure that this is finally the 
  30.     truth, but he can tell how badly Garak needs forgiveness.

  32.                     BASHIR
  33.             I forgive you, Garak.  For whatever 
  34.             you did.

  36.                     GARAK
  37.             Thank you, Doctor.  That's most kind.

  39.     Garak closes his eyes to rest.

  43.     Bashir grips Garak's hand for a beat, then releases it.

  47.     As Bashir takes Jabara aside.

  51.             See that he rests comfortably.  I'll 
  52.             be back within fifty-two hours.
