- polish scene - back 4good?
-
- reported by Grey / Mystic Bytes
- ----------------------------------------------------------------- -- - --- ----
-
- The fame of the Polish ST/Falcon scene seemed to be buried for good... The 8-
- bit Atari scene (even if heavily reduced) is still alive and kickin'. The
- latest QuaST party - reactivated after few years of absence, gathered over 100
- ppl (!!!) from that scene! Miracle? Or a real attachment to the roots...?
- Whatever you callit the 8-bit Atari scene proved how strong their community is
- even nowadays.
-
- What about the younger brothaz from ST/Falcon scene? Well, this part of the
- scene was left by their Gods... Luzak Team, Syntax, Confusions, Shadows, Cobra,
- Pandemonium... Who remembers these guys? Even the latest blokes from MSB seemed
- to be slowly fading away kickin' out the mag with huge dalays... Being alone on
- the scene isn't too motivating... but finally SOMETHING HAPPENED. Suddenly,
- surprisingly and totally unexpectedly! The latest QuaST party motivated some
- ppl to get "back on track"! The chance to show their skills to the bigger
- public, many ppl still proudly wearing Atari T-shirts etc. injected new life
- into the dying species :) First sign of that was a nice chat with Cedyn of
- Shadows about the good old times... suddenly this chat turned out to be NOT
- only about digging out some nice memories of the past, but... plans for the
- future! :) I was really surprised when Cedyn did ask me: "Maybe we could
- release something else for the Falcon?". I couldn't believe my ears!
- Afterwards, back at home I grabbed down the e-mail addy of Yonek and sent it
- over to Cedyn...
-
- I've been busy awaiting his answer, but nothing showed up for 2 weeks or so...
- I did an interview for the previous issue of Chosneck when Yonek said that "his
- Falcon is hidden somewhere awaiting better times...". Well, after that I did my
- best to induce him to release anything for the Falcon, e.g. an intro for our
- mag which could be surely a good pretext to inject him motivation to keep
- coding on this great machine :) Alas, the plan failed, Yonek was willing to
- help our coder but nothing else 'coz his Falcon wasn't running... without HDD,
- didn't know what happened to his sources etc. Still nothing arrived from Cedyn,
- so probably he didn't manage to induce him to do something. SH*T :(
-
- But hey, suddenly Yonek started to flood one of the polish Atari bulletin
- boards asking for a help in bringing his Falcon to life, how to connect 40GB
- HHD to the Falcon, is it possible to use *.MP3 or *.MP2 files in demos, where
- he could find some sources, etc etc. He also mentioned he is going to write
- his own demo-system and various tools on PC esp. for Falcon demo needs! :) Wow!
- I was totally smashed and I sent an e-mail to Cedyn with best congrats that he
- managed to rape him to do it! But Cedyn replied that Yonek did it alone :)
-
-
- Take a look at Yonek's words found at atari-area bbs (translated to English):
-
-
- ::: 1st quotation :::
-
- "(...) I am going to try to create a new demosystem and spend on it sensible
- amount of time. We'll see what it's gonna bring(...)".
-
-
- ::: 2nd quotation :::
-
- "(...) I hope to release something much better than my previous demos on the
- Falcon. I am a big boy at last! :> And bigger boys can do much more :)"
-
-
- ::: 3rd quotation :::
-
- "(...) I run everything today. Old Falcon plugged to the LCD monitor looks a
- bit weird but works correctly as it should. But I have another problem! I do
- connect HDD and AHDI driver see it but nothing happens later... I know that I
- should do something but don't know how and what. All what's left from OS
- software are 3 original disks which I've got with my Falcon :) (...)"
-
-
- ::: CONCLUSION? :::
-
- It looks like Yonek's Falcon finally awaited these "better times" he was
- talking about and let's pray his motivation won't vanish too fast. As Cedyn
- wrote in e-mail: "We are going to make something multimedial on the old
- computer. Probably at the QuaST Party 2004" :) Keep Your fingers crossed!
-
-
- But Shadows has it's followers. Also the guys from Cobra started to devise
- plans about their come-back :) After unsuccessful tries with their latest
- "Awaken" project Mayonez is willing to release a new demo for ST! That's gonna
- be surely one of coolest ST demos released and I am not afraid to say that! If
- all goes to plan this demo could see the light of the day at SV2k+4... :)
- Mayonez seems to be motivated as ever before and his positive words about The
- ST in our interview gives us hope! Welcome back, Mayonez!
-
- Also MacGyver - their Falcon coder - does his best to fix his BROKEN machine
- and bring it to life a.s.a.p.! :) He also flooded one of the forums asking for
- help and trying to guess what could have f*cked up...
-
- So who's next? :) The remnants of The Votion (Hospes) and Confusions (Maska)
- want to join forces to release a... Falcon demo :) First plans about such a
- project were spread at the small Atari meeting in Gdansk organized by your
- favorite disk-mag editor .) Hospes is a very motivated graphician and Maska is
- GFA coder learning ASM if I am not wrong... We'll see what this co-operation
- brings up! Anyway GOOD LUCK, The Voted Confusions!
-
- What would this world be without... black souls from Pandemonium! :) It was
- already mentioned somewhere, but Darth from PNM promised me to release
- something if someone loans him a Falcon :) (his financial situation forced him
- to sell this machine). Of course I will do it... :) Date-release? Well, SV2+4?
-
- And we... the MSB mastas :) We are still here even if our activities shrunk
- only to disk-mag needs. Of course it's not our only goal! And we'll do all or
- even more to rape Sqward's ass to keep going with other things! First effects
- should be seen quite soon! :) Arf... I nearly totally forget! We have a new
- member joining us who will surely put some fresh air into our "balloon" :)
- Who's that? W8&C!
-
- Some rumours came up as well about reactivating the Klamot Design group, ppl
- who did an unforgotten "Crock roach" demo at QuaST '97... :) First production
- should be seen at SV2k+4...
-
- And our latest pearl - Saulot. He's working on something scene-related as well
- but I didn't get the word to spread details so don't ask me for this! .)
- I guess there is a chance to see it as SV2k+4 as well... :)
-
- So that's all kids... What could I add more? It seems that we're rising up from
- the ashes!
-
- If you know about other chaps willing to dig out their STs or Falcons to
- resurrect the fame of polish scene - get in touch!
-
- Long live the Polish scene!
