- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- is he a Reservoir? is he a God? nobody knowz!
- so let's introduce him to our fellowz!
-
- Shtrois - the man, the legend!
-
- Godness soundtracks left his hands! Girls got wet in their pants!
-
- Personal idol of Grey / Mystic Bytes
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
-
- Grey: Wuzzzuuup, SH-trois! :) Wot a lovely introduction, don't ya think? :)
- Comin' deeply from my heart, dude!
-
- Sh3: I'm feeling it, Grey - thanks for the new name :)
-
- Grey: Arf... guess what's gonna be next?! Of course... of course! It's time
- to get naked for the Atari scene public! Age, sex, addicitons,
- hobbies etc. turn it out!
-
- Sh3: I'm not sure the Atari scene is quite ready for a naked sh3,let's keep
- it decent for now. I'm sh30 years old & I'm still sitting in front of
- Degas Elite in 2003,I wouldn't have believed that if you'd told me all
- those years ago. Aside from Atari STuffs I do have a few addictions I
- could tell you about.
-
- I've something of a perverted, twisted side to my personality... a bit
- of a sickNES you could say. Games consoles & cartridges, but in
- particular famicom (.jp NES) clones & pirate carts. Micro Genius,
- Dendy, Sachen, it's all good. I wouldn't dare guess how many of these
- machines I actually own but it's safe to say it's the wrong side of 50
- as far as my girlfriend is concerned. I only play the games on the
- Game Axe really but I've got some cool clones that look like PS2, UFOs
- all sort of shit... that's what I like best, the crazy design of the
- machines & even crazier English attempts :) Learn more at my site,
- the Famiclone: http://famiclone.emucamp.com
-
- My other main addiction is Ocean Spray Cranberry Classic. I swear it's
- changed my life! Liquid health!
-
- Grey: Do You remember Your 1st touch with Atari keyz? How did your date
- with these dream machines begin?
-
- Sh3: My bruv would come home from school with tales of this amazing Atari
- computer his friend's Dad owned. Atari? Ha! All I could think of was
- the adverts for the VCS on TV, Atari was weak as far as I knew. But
- in the pages of the Spectrum magazines we bought there were ST screen
- shots that looked amazing. But ú20 a game, that was a bit more than we
- were used to but at least it was ú5 cheaper than the Amiga versions.
-
- So we saved up what little cash we had for half a year or so & put it
- together with money we would get for Christmas & the ST was ours, with
- a nice pack of games. Test Drive was the first game I playe d & using
- that mouse was some crazy shit indeed. The other 2 games that stand
- out from that time were Buggy Boy & Black lamp, the former for it's
- gameplay &, well, you couldn't front on those Black Lamp gfx.
-
- Grey: Didn't you ever have a moment of weakness & betray your aTARI? And
- try the romance with aMIGA, the female?
-
- Sh3: The bitch! OK, I hold my hands up, I had my moments of weakness...
- I had an Amiga 1500, swapped that for my old ST once I had a Falcon.
- There's been an A500 & Plus and more recently 600 & 1200, but I did
- very little useful stuff with any of them, just a few logos for a
- small number of groups. But it was all very bitchy with Amiga
- although I did enjoy reading a few grapevine mags.
-
- Grey: When did you reinforce the ranks of the Gods?
-
- Sh3: That would be from day one of RG, although I was handed the name Mr.
- Blonde by Mr. Pink, the film had clearly made a large impression on
- the wee codester.
-
- Grey: Who's the most Reservoir and why?
-
- Sh3: Pink. Is. Reservoir.
-
- Without the pink one there is no Reservoir Gods. The man redefines the
- word dedicated, brings it to new levels. There would be nothing Atari
- in the UK if it wasn't for him. He's been involved longer than any of
- us care to remember and unless you've worked with him you have no idea
- just how much of his life he's given to the scene. He lives it. And
- the kid's got the most wicked sense of humour, subtle & sharp, it's a
- shame it's mostly all lost on his audience :) But that's enough
- god-on-god action for this interview, let's not get on that atari-fr
- thing. :)
-
- Earlier this year we had a count up of the number of RG productions...
- would you be surprised to hear it was over 100?!
-
- Grey: Atari world is carrying quite a heavy sack of various gifts from Gods!
- Countless games, some little intros, demos... You have huge merits
- for this community, no doubt!
-
- Sh3: Oh, so you HAVE been counting! Yes, it's a huge great hairy sack of
- offerings, but we receive plenty of love in return.
-
- Grey: RG was always associated with entertainment... but lately we were
- the witness to your strong entrance into demo-coding! Damo is one of
- the most promising coders for sure! I've been smashed looking at his
- "Grimey" release - very stylish, well designed, kewl soundtrack,
- graphics bits... and this Wolf3D-like fx! I just LOVE IT!
-
- Sh3: The wolf part is a pink-damo combo move UP,DOWN,YELLOW BUTTON. Grimey
- is a special production & that's a lot to do with Damo's approach to
- what he does, whether it's design or production. There's a bright
- future for RG demos as long as the partnership continues between
- those two, 'cause Pink knows his stuff inside-out-back-to-front & Damo
- knows design & has the crazy horse ideas.
-
- Grey: Talking about RG... who makes up the current image of this crew? Could
- you tell us all the names and functions for each?
-
- Sh3: I'll have to think carefully now... Imagine RG as a huge onion. Not
- a stinky scally but one of those tasty reds from Sainsbury's.. you
- know the kind. RG train spotters note the vegetable references.
-
- OK, in the centre sits the one, the one, the one, the only Mr. Pink.
- I think you might have heard him & know where his skills lie, but I
- bet you never knew about his Degas skills? He draws blobs Mr. Scruff
- would be proud of. Just don't get into a conversation about films,
- you'll come off second best every time.
-
- This core is surrounded by the juiciest fleshy-fresh layers including:
-
- The mega-mighty MSG, a man who knows SSD all too well and has his own
- sack full of ProTracker skills. He loves his Nintendo stuffs and is,
- IMO, the coolest person in the whole of the Atari scene. We'll argue
- over anything and everything you can think about but we're best mates
- really.
-
- shPEA, that's me. Got to go with the vegATARIan flow. I draw stuff &
- Leon & Damo use it. Hooray for them!
-
- New kid on the block, the toastyboy himself, Damo. The main reason
- we got Damo to join was to dispel the myth that there were height
- restrictions at the gates of RGHQ. This man is going to be famous.
- He'd have been an RG years ago if it wasn't for his crazy work
- commitments. There's more to this kid than slick demos, he's a
- music producer with tha skillz to pay tha bills. Watch out for mad
- shit from this man coming to an Atari near you.
-
- RG is a true international group these days (not just England,
- Wales, Scotland!). Stratagem, Hanz to his friends, is a very cool
- addition to our ranks. He's been around the Atari world longer than
- many people know & is the bug tester of Pink's dreams and also
- scores of nightmares no doubt. There's more to the man that that,
- he's a bit of a techspert & another of the scene's true heroes.
-
- Aegir is a friend of Pink & myself from way back when. He's a lot to
- offer but unfortunately has an evil level of work commitments and
- also has trouble with support from myself & musicers as we're kept
- busy doing our thing for our glorious leader.
-
- Outside of this inner circle, ahem, we have Griff who is a coder of
- undoubted skills & if we manage to staple him down in front of an ST
- one day we'll have even more impressive shit to show!
-
- Then there's Neo the gxfer, he's in some kind of state of
- inactiveness but does reappear on the rg mailing list from time to
- time. he's quite into his Jaguar stuff the last I heard.
-
- Ripley is also in semi-retirement, can't recall the last gfx from
- her.
-
- Charles & Tim are and always will be RGs although you'll never have
- seen anything from them. They are also friends from the days we
- first knew Aegir. Charles was in a group with Pink & Aegir & Tim
- was in a group with me & then joined up. Those two made a great
- team & always had big big ideas they could realise better on PC.
-
- Partycle is an honorary member or RG, he's a great friend of all
- RGs and helps out a lot. Party, if you reading, as Damo might say -
- Boost!
-
- Sorry if I missed anyone!
-
- Grey: Gods seem not only addicted to Atari affairs... Pink smokes more than
- any refinery; MSG loves to walk hidden inside the sleepin' bag
- screamin' "'eyyyyyy!"... what about You?!
-
- Sh3: You're right, Pink scares me with his smoking, that shit's out of
- control! Knock it of the head big man! At least so I can manage to sit
- nearby without wanting to puke!
-
- I have to hold my hands up, I introduced MSG to the wonderful world
- of the wormbag. "Eyyyyyyy!" is something we can only guess at, it's
- been a feature of the Malcom as long as I've known him.
-
- OK, so the worm thing: the original wormbag was a green silky number
- loaned to me by MSG's friend Katie who lived in the student flat
- above his when he stayed in my hometown of Bolton. We used to have
- legendary evenings of demos, draw & White Lightning cider then I'd
- sleep on the floor under my coat before going to work in town the
- next day. So the sleeping bag was kindly loaned to me and was
- christened the wormbag after the silky wiggly way it helped me
- navigate the felt floor. Since these days, the entire RG crew has
- known the benefits of the worm.
-
- Myself, yep I've got my thing but I keep it low. There's only one
- way to get a decent night's sleep at a party of any kind & that's
- with the aid of drugs, & I'm something of an expert having sampled
- everything on the market. Only legal stuff of course, ask MSG, he
- knows the score!
-
- Grey: Did You know how Your music can ravish? :) My sister-in-law just
- loves to play SkyFall... One day she suddenly stood up, JoyPad in
- hand and started to make body-moves so wildly! She loves Your music
- in SkyFall! :)
-
- Sh3: Ha ha ha! I have to apologise. Well, in fact, it's Pink who should
- take the stick, he was the one who included my music in some RG
- things! There was no plan to use it, it was just one of those
- things I did when I was bored with Degas. There's nothing
- musical about any of it, I havenÆt got the first idea when it
- comes to what music is, I just like playing with trackers. You see
- this was in the days before I found MSG at school, there was
- nothing else! Still, some of those Dutch kids liked it at Fried Bits 3
- which I suppose says it all really! :)
-
- Grey: Eh, women... WOMEN... Who understands them except themselves, hehe.
- Do You plan to add any new gift to your Reservoir sack? Another
- intro, demo, game... whatever? tell us! TELL US!
-
- Sh3: I won't be bringing any new little RGs into the world if that's
- what you're getting at, but my wife-to-be is rapidly gaining skillz
- with Degas & I'm going to let her loose on GodPaint soon now she's
- mastered the basics! Watch for some of her stuff in some kind of demo
- thing one day.
-
- OK, you really want to know about RG productions... well, there's
- a number of things under way, some of which you'll have read about
- elsewhere, e.g. Faeryland Adventures, the joint venture. There's
- talk of interesting things to come from Damo, not just demos, but
- I'm not giving a thing away :) There's at least one more game, but
- I think I've done more work on that than Pink has & I have a sneaky
- feeling there's been a tiny few rumours going around. Fact is,
- I've spoken with Pink about some other projects that interest us
- both more, so I hope we can kick that one out before getting on
- any of this newer stuff... then there's the CT60... RG are going
- to have a couple of these so you've got to expect some '60'd
- things from us at some point.
-
- Grey: And what about Maggie? How does she feel? Her visit was over at
- the 10th birthday anniversary... Why's that? Is she too old? Doesn't
- she satisfy you anymore? I've got used to her... as have most of the
- sceners I guess. She was so... exceptional!
-
- Sh3: Maggie is dead, simple as that. Poor old tart. A truly exceptional
- production, just drained Pink of a lot of his time, and that's
- something we don't like to see, there's only 1 Pink & we have to
- keep him focused :) As if anything we say could influence him :)
-
- Grey: So it happened, dude! We came to an end of this feast! I would like
- to thank you personally for THE WHOLE OF YOUR EFFORT to our mag! You
- do a mega-fu*king (but arduous) job for us! Without Your help I
- could bury Chosneck to avoid drowning in a sea of grammar bugs...
- Stay cool, Kev, stay the way You are!
-
- Sh3: Cheers, Greyster! Thanks for the opportunity to have me talk some
- shit to the other atari kids still out there. Hope there was
- something worth reading this far for!
