The Husbandman............The Father
The Branches..............The Believers
The Fruit................ The Fruit of the Spirit. Gal. 5:22-23
Salvation of souls, etc. Acts 2:41,
Matt. 13:23, Col. 1:6, Rom. 1:13
Every branch that beareth not fruit, the Father taketh away.
v. 2 He is cast forth as a branch and withers. Gathered, and
cast into the fire v.6. Cf. 1 Cor. 15:2, Gal. 5:4, Col. 1:23,
Heb. 2:1-3, 3:12-14, 6:4-8.
Three classes of branches

3. a branch abiding in Christ and Christ in him..much fruit. v.7-8,
Cleansed by the Word. v. 3.
Abiding in the Vine--indispensable to life and fruit. v. 4.
We abide in Christ by love and by obedience (v. 9,12-14, 11)
Results of abiding in Christ:
a. Prevailing prayer. v. 7-16c.
b. Much fruit. v. 5,8,
c. Full joy, the joy of Christ, v. 11,
d. Perfect friendship with Christ. v. 14-15.
e. Abiding fruit. (a fruitful life for eternity). v. 16.
2. The Believer and the World. v. 18-27.
a. The Believer Hated by the World. v. 18-25.
The world hated Christ, therefore the world will hate Christ
in us. v. 18, 20, 21.
The separation of the believer from the world. v. 19.
In the world but not of the world.
The world hates the believer because the world does not know
the Father, and in so doing hates both Jesus and His
Father. v.21,23-2
b. The Believer's Witness to the World. v. 26-27.
In the midst of hate and persecution the Comforter will come.
Jesus promises to send Him to the believer from the Father.
He shall testify of Christ in the face of an unbelieving,
God-hating world.
Thus by the power of the Spirit, the disciples are able to
testify to the world in spite of it's hate and persecution.
