"l am the Bread of Life." v.35. Again He is revealed as the

e. Increased Revelation Concerning the Bread of Life. v.41-59.
Results--Jews murmured (v.41-42) and strove among themselves
(v.52). They lacked spiritual perception and discernment.
The death of Christ on the Cross foretold. v.51,53-56.
Communion of the Body and Blood of Christ revealed.
Cf. 1 Cor. 10:16 One greater than the manna had come: His flesh
is bread. Eternal life is through His body and blood.
Note how often Jesus refers to the resurrection of the righteous in
the last day, v.39,40,44,54, and everlasting life, v.27,40,47,50,51,
54,58.
f. The Effect on the Disciples. v. 60-71,
They murmured (v. 60-61) and many went back and walked no
more with Him!
The Twelve remained but one of them was a devil (slanderer),
the betrayer,
Peter's great confession, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the
living God."
Against the black background of the Jews' murmuring and
unbelief together with the disciples' murmuring and drawing
back, Peter's confession stands out in a blazing whiteness of
faith and glory.
In the first part of the chapter the people wanted to make Him
a King. In the face of the revelation of the Cross and the
Atonement they turn away and would have nothing to do with
Him. Jesus did not attempt to make religion "popular" and
appealing to the natural man. The Eternal Word is the Bread
of Life.
