  5. When garlic was  injected  after the 
  6. virulent cells,  tumors were delayed 
  7. or prevented from developing as long 
  8. as  administration  of   garlic  was 
  9. continued.

  12.    Researchers  have  reported   and 
  13. observed that the sulfhydryl content 
  14. is significantly higher  in tumorous 
  15. cancer  cells  than  normal  healthy 
  16. cells.   An  active  ingredient   of 
  17. garlic has been shown  to inactivate 
  18. any  sulfhydryl  (-SH)  enzymes.  In 
  19. leukemia, for example, allicin shows 
  20. a  greater  affinity  for   cysteine 
  21. (a-SH) reacting with it reducing its 
  22. biological activity.  Such compounds 
  23. may be of importance in relationship 
  24. to malignancies and leukemia because 
  25.

  28. the  availability   of  reduced  -SH 
  29. compounds  have  been  implicated in 
  30. the  processes  of  cancerous   cell 
  31. growth  and division.  These studies 
  32. with garlic  compounds  indicate its 
  33. ability  to  inactivate  -SH enzymes 
  34. and to combine with cysteine may  be 
  35. correlated with an inhibitory effect 
  36. on rapidly growing cells.
