Title: Tables: Row Bumping to Next Page
Product: WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS
Number: 1016-10/93
Problem
You have a table that extends to multiple pages. Your table
contains several lines of text in the row closest to the bottom
of a page. As you type in that row, WordPerfect moves the entire
bottom row to the next page, leaving too much white space below
the table at the end of the first page.
Concept
A block of text in your document may need to belong together for
the sake of appearance or clarity. WordPerfect lets you protect
a block of text if you want it to stay together. In some
instances, WordPerfect is designed to always treat text as if it
were block-protected. Text in a table row is treated this way.
Because WordPerfect block-protects text in table rows, each row
of a table remains intact. If the contents of a row extend
beyond the bottom of a page, WordPerfect places the whole row on
the next page.
Be sure you have completely edited your document before you use
the following solution, because if you change your document
later, you will have two rows where you only want one.
Solution
Insert a row in the table immediately above the row that was
moved to the next page. Then move part of the text to the new
row.
1 With the cursor in the row of the table that has the text
you want to divide, press Columns/Table (Alt+F7), then
Insert.
2 Choose Rows (1), and type 1 for the Number of Rows. Press
Enter to add the blank row.
3 Press Exit (F7) to exit the Table Editor.
Now that you are back to your document screen, you now need to
block and move part of the text.
4 Position the cursor at the start of the text you want to
divide.
5 Press Alt+F4 to turn Block on.
6 Move the cursor to the end of the text you want to move,
which is immediately before the word you were typing when
WordPerfect moved the text to the next page.
7 Press Move (Ctrl+F4), Block (1), then Move (1) to move the
text.
8 Position the cursor in the new row of the table, then press
Enter.
