Title: Tables: Cell Line Ownership Design
Product: WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS
Number: 1017-10/93
Problem
As you modify the lines of a cell, you may encounter one of the
following problems:
∙ The bottom and right cell lines do not disappear as you
would expect.
∙ A cell line appears correctly in the Table Edit screen, but
prints as a double line.
∙ The bottom line of a top cell becomes dotted while the cell
directly beneath retains its top single line.
Concept
As a default, the top and left border for each cell are set as a
single or double line, while the bottom and right borders are set
for no line. This is true for all cells except the cells in the
right-most column or the bottom row of the table where the right
or bottom borders must be set to create the table borders.
By default, each cell in a table controls only its top and left
lines. You can change the right or bottom lines of each cell,
but the top line of the cell below and the left line of the cell
to the right could overlap those lines because they take up the
same space. To avoid line duplication, it is best to only modify
the top and left lines of each cell.
Solution
You need to edit the top and left lines of other cells to make
changes to the bottom and right lines of cells.
You must first have the table you wish to edit on your screen.
1 Enter the Table Editor (Alt+F7).
2 Position the cursor below and to the right of the cell(s)
you want to modify.
3 Modify the cell.
You might want to use the View Document feature to make sure that
all of your lines are correct before you print the table.
1 Press Print (Shift+F7).
2 Select View Document (6).
