BBSERV Trailers & Reply messages explained
REPLIES:
Replies must exist and have an extension of .REP these are
for example INFO.REP which at present is the only .REP file.
TRAILERS:
These are text files that are sent after the regular messages or
response from the server. This allows you ( the sysop ) to have
a way of customizing the way your system looks to the user.
If a trailer is missing or blank there will be nothing done so
there is no need to have them if you don't have a reason.
They are all kept in the bbserv_dir and have a .TRL extension and may
be edited with the EF command right from REBBS.
Several trailers are used for various responses such as INPUT.TRL for
the INPUT command, LIST.TRL for the LIST or W commands, SHADOW.TRL for
the shadow or "OWNERS" commands and the UPLOAD.TRL for an upload thank
you message.
Each BBSERV database has a trailer assigned to it by it's number in the
list of databases and is identified by a D(No.).TRL as an example the
trailer for the third BBSERV database is called D3.TRL and if these are
blank or missing it will not affect operation. They will be created as
blank files during the course of operation if they don't exist. These
might be used to put out a disclaimer for the MODS or advise the users
of a new file or files and in a SIG operation of a dbase notices &
updates could be sent also. You can find out the proper number designator
by checking it's position in parms.bb from the top.
