AltR with AltL Blocking (Line Reformatting)
AltR with AltL blocking permits you to define exactly which lines you
want to reformat.
Move the cursor to this line and press AltL.
Then move the cursor to the line below and press AltL again.
Now press AltR. You will see that only those lines within the shaded
area are reformatted.
When you reformat in this manner, the justification will ignore the
INDENT character on the TAB line (if you specified one) to permit you
to reformat without having to reset the TAB line.
Press the PgDn Key
CtrlR with CtrlB Blocking (Column Reformatting)
Move the cursor to the M Now press the Enter key and
at the beginning of this sentence you will see that the column
and press CtrlB. Now move of information is reformatted
the cursor just above the "^" without changing the location
character below and press CtrlB of any text in this paragraph.
again, and then press CtrlR.
(^)
The 'L' and 'R' define the extents of the blocked area and may be
moved as you wish to make the column of text wider or narrower. Do it
again, but this time move the R two characters to the left before
pressing the Enter key. This feature is also very useful on a single
column of information, for you can easily relocate it and justify it at
the same time.
NOTE: You must include ALL the text to be reformatted WITHIN the
blocked area.
Press the PgDn Key
AltR with CtrlB Blocking (New Margins)
This reformatting technique is extremely useful, for it allows you to
redefine the margins for a block of text without having to change the
TAB and Margin definitions, reformat, and then go back and reset the
margins again. Move the cursor to the first "r" on the first line of
this paragraph above the leftmost "^" character and press CtrlB.
Now move the cursor to the character "e" on the last line of this
paragraph above the rightmost "^" character and press CtrlB again.
Now press AltR. Notice that the paragraph has been reformatted
according to where it was blocked without changing the TAB line.
^ ^
Notice that since the margins were pulled in that additional lines
were added to the text.
Press the PgDn Key
CtrlR with No Blocking (Paragraph Reformatting)
CtrlR will reformat an entire paragraph without marking it. If an
area in the file has been marked with AltL or CtrlL, these markings
will be ignored, (although a warning message will first be issued
since the blocking will be cleared before doing the justifying).
CtrlR will honor any INDENT specification you may have made on the TAB
line. It will also reposition the cursor at the beginning of the next
paragraph when reformatting has been completed. Place the cursor
here (*) and press CtrlR.
(The cursor should be moved to this line.)
Press the PgDn Key
Special NO Reformat Lines with Reformatting
If you decided to press CtrlR with no blocking, (or AltL or CtrlL
blocking), and the cursor was between the special NO Reformat lines as
seen below, no action would take place. These lines are primarily
used to protect an area from being reformatted if you use a Keystroke
Macro to reformat your entire file.
Place the cursor in this area
and press CtrlR.
Notice that nothing is changed.
The other types of reformatting, however, will be honored inside the
NO reformat area. The NO Reformat lines are obtained by pressing
F8/F7 and then F3 or F4.
