-
-
- What a great way to start - a warm welcoming verse:
-
- SuperFly...
- Su-Per-Fly!
- We gather your stars from places high...
- (such as, for instance, the evening sky).
- I love you... I HATE YOU!
- Oh SuperFly...
- you make me cheer
- but then I sob (cry).
-
-
- Is there anyone still here...? Can I go home yet?
-
-
- OK... let's begin with a question or two...
-
- Q. Is there really any point reading a doc that hopes to help you play a ONE
- BUTTON game? Are you really THAT bad?! Or should that be BORED?!
-
- Let's not answer that question for now... Instead, let's look to RG's head boy
- MrPink and hope he may offer us some highly cunning technical advice and
- possibly a dash of thought provoking insight...
-
- OK, MrPink, give us the low down on high flying...
-
- pink-rg: "Just press the button".
-
- So there you have it, Ladies and gentlemen... straight from the horse's mouth.
- It's sound advice for sure but it should also be pointed out that letting go of
- the button is just as important! He clearly doesn't want to give anything
- away... but I do, so here goes!
-
-
- shTHREE's SuperFly Top Tips:
-
- Health warning: It's even less fun from here on...
-
- TIP: 1
-
- Q. Do you sit at a desk in front of a TV or monitor to play your atari? Yes...?
- You do?! Then you have already broken golden rule #1!
-
- Atari bleep expert MSG would suggest you lay back on something comfortable and
- become one with your Atari. And he should know - it was his pioneering spirit
- that birthed the idea of RG's Play-In-Bed technology.
-
- You have been informed.
-
-
- HINT: B
-
- Widescreen mode on the Falcon can be great fun... in the good old days of
- GodleNES & GodBoy(X), MSG & I often sang long into the night of our thanks to
- the almighty God Pink and his merciful decision to allow it to be. But I tell
- you this: Widescreen is BAD for your health! To be more exact, the health of
- your Submarine, your Chopper or maybe even your 'Little Fella'... not to
- mention any miscellaneous kitchen implements you may have acquired.
-
- You should only use widescreen mode on the falcon if you sit a long way back
- from a nice big telly or monitor. No need to make it harder for yourself
- (there's a name for boys who do that).
-
- You have been warned.
-
-
- POINT: iii
-
- Don't play at 60Hz. Normally if you were to play a game at 60 instead of 50Hz
- you'd get a 20% increase in speed... and that can't be a good thing in such a
- tense game as SuperFly. So MrPink to the rescue... Thinking of all those atari
- kids who might be stuck playing on VGA without a TV handy, he balanced the game
- to make it play more equally. He recalibrates the velocity and gravity based on
- the refresh rate... but it's not quite 100% comparable... still slightly
- faster gameplay at 60Hz. So remember, some screen modes are more equal than
- others... 50Hz is your friend =)
-
- You have been yawned.
-
-
- STUFF: IV
-
- Don't use the keyboard to fly... it's the most difficult method you could
- choose, especially if it's a nasty cheap PC keyboard you're using via Steem.
-
- Atari mice are the only mice worth owning... unless you want to play SuperFly.
- The mouse can be a decent way to play if you hold it in you hand... and lots of
- people seem to be playing this way . But the JagPad and good joysticks are by
- far the easiest way to fly. I suggest all mouse players dig out their old
- sticks & give them all a go or two.
-
- With help from Sarah & a box full of old joysticks I did exactly this. We found
- it's not always the sticks that are good for playing 'regular' games that work
- well with this one. I was convinced micro switched buttons would be the key to
- spot-on control... but they can soon give you a sore thumb and with all that
- clicking... argh, you might well go insane! My favourite was the Sega Master
- System joypad... it's responsive and the button presses easily. The JagPad is
- my new favourite but it's not worn-in enough yet. Sarah was quite fond of a
- crazy Cheetah Terminator 2 Character stick, turned sideways! The top button on
- the Terminator's head is quite good =) Other nice ones were the bizarre
- QuickJoy IX - has a big micro switch - but it's ultra sensitive (check out a
- picture of that beast - it looks like a trackball but is just HUGE!).
-
- Other bits:
-
- *** Spoiler warning *** Don't read the next bit if you haven't unlocked all the
- 'vehicles'. Well, I had to say something... some people think it's just a
- submarine-sim!
-
- Most people play by doing smooth sine wave sweeps up and down the screen, but I
- prefer to tap-tap-tap the fire button to try & make the craft fly straight and
- it's well worth it when you come to the level with such narrow tunnels... I'm
- talking of the flying man level it's tricky and requires a totally different
- way to play the game.
-
-
- OK, I could have bored you with lots more craptalk and even given away some
- tasty cheat codes but pink wouldn't have been too happy =) There is some more
- stuff to tell, but I'll save it for next time when people are not interested in
- playing anymore (because they are playing our new games, of course!)
-
- Don't forget to check out SantaFly, our now out-of-date Christmas Special
- version featuring Santa himself, Rudolph the red-nosed Reindeer and a selection
- of lesiban helpers... thankfully, lesbians never go out-of date.
