- R A L F / I N D E P E N D E N T
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- a sensible newcomer on the Falcon demo-scene willing to bring us
- his firST demo this year!
-
- fresh blood interviewed by Grey / Mystic Bytes
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Grey: Yo <link=g14.scr>Ralf!</l> Welcome to our modest thresholds of the mag! :o)
-
- Ralf: Hello Grey - it's my first interview ever.
-
- Grey: Your person probably isn't known to the larger community of the
- falcon scene, so please throw us some facts about your real life,
- like your real name, age and so on!
-
- Ralf: Well, my name is Ralf Zenker (27 years) and I am living in Germany
- (Nuremberg). In my "real" job I am working for a bank and in my
- spare time some other guys and I develop together on a PC game and
- I am back on the Falcon now...
-
- Grey: Falcon scene nowadays seems to be plunged in darkness. The amount of
- new demo releases this year is... well, what amount btw? We've had
- the most silent atari summer... :o( Your message at DHS - bbs caused
- a real "storm of hopes" assembling the attention of the "hungry"
- Falcon sceners. When did you become a lucky user of your own Falcon?
- And did you release anything on the other Atari machines in the past?
-
- Ralf: I started 1988 on a 520STFM (my first computer at all) and after a
- 1040STE I got an ATARI Falcon 1993 - still a great machine.;-)
- On STE I have coded some little games like a tron-clone and two
- one-screen demos. For the Falcon Ronald Wendt and I made three
- little demos and the game Painium Disaster (there are still some
- bugs). For different reasons I stopped all activities on the
- Falcon 1997.
- Some weeks ago a friend of mine told me that he still owns a
- Falcon, but he doesn't really use it - so I get a Falcon again
- (Thanks Peter!).
-
- Grey: In the beginning you were going to release your demo at the
- forthcoming Mekka Symposium party in Germany. This party wasn't
- well accepted by the atari community which used to attend the
- smaller but surely the most friendliest "atari only" parties.
- What's your opinion of it? Shall we "open" ourselves for other
- scenes? The latest experiences with Mekka Symposium shows there is
- rather no chance to see Atarians striking the roots on such huge
- multi-parties...
-
- Ralf: At the moment it seems that the ATARI scene is very separated from
- the rest of the demo scene. I think that isn't good for the ATARI
- scene and one of the reasons why only a few demos has been released
- in the last months and years. We should put together with other
- alternative scenes like Commodore or Acorn to get other views,
- bigger parties and a healthy competition between those different
- systems. It's like business: competition raises innovation and
- quality!
-
- Grey: Are you going to attend the Error in Line 3# party? And can we expect
- to see your first Falcon demo released there?
-
- Ralf: ... it should be my first "big" Falcon demo. After the discussion on
- the DSH-board it seems that the demo will see the light on Eil #3 in
- Dresden this year.
-
- Grey: Could you reveal us some details about this demo? What hardware it
- will require?
-
- Ralf: The demo should be a contribution to the Falcon and it will be a
- bit different to the last Falcon demos. It should run on a
- standard Falcon with 4 MB but it will support fast-RAM and
- accelerators. I'm not sure at the moment if the final version will
- require a FPU or not.
-
- Grey: Have you seen Falcon releases from the latest Error in Line party?
- The jumping-bar became set quite high... :o) Are you able to jump
- over it? Keep in mind that the forthcoming EIL edition should bring
- even cooler stuff :o)
-
- Ralf: Yes, I have seen all these releases and there are some very good
- effects but unfortunately less or no design. We will see if there is
- a new jumping-bar next year... ;-)
-
- Grey: What do you think about making demo-stuff on the power-Falcons?
- Unfortunately for some people from atari scene even upgrading their
- machines with more RAM means it's "a kind of PC-like behaviour".
- Isn't it just ridiculous?
-
- Ralf: In my opinion all demos should work on a standard Falcon because
- accelerated Falcons are still rare. Why should I make a demo only a
- few Falcon users can see it?!?
-
- Grey: Good news is here, Ralf! The interview is over... so relax, I am not
- going to bother you with some more questions :o) If you want to greet
- anyone or ask for help - this is the best occasion to do it!
-
- Ralf: I want to greet all these people out there which still keep the
- ATARI computers alive. Especially I want to thank the programmers of
- SainT and STeem for bringing ATARI-feeling on my PC.(I am waiting for
- a Falcon emulator!)
-
- Grey: Thanx for your time spent on answering all these questions! May at
- least part of your dreams become realised on the Falcon! :o)
-
- Ralf: ... that's the reason for the demo. See you all on Eil #3.
