Subject: RE: (ztt) Trevor Vs Seal
Date: 01 Oct 1997 06:37:28 +0100
Hello list,
not that I should reply on anyones behalf. But only on my own behalf:
In my opinion Trevor Horn is as much an artist as the performing artists
themselves. I am convinced that Trevor Horn puts equal amount of effort,
hard work and uniqueness to the music he either produces, remixes or
even writes/plays/sings himself. Perhaps as is often stated he puts more
effort and have much higher ideas/goals of the work in progress.
Here in Denmark we (the TH fans) have always hoped that the yearly
Eurovision Song Contest would ask a prominent producer , such as TH, to
re-produce or even remix one of the songs having 0 points in the
Contest. This would clearly show the power that the producer/remixer
haves.
Another point here could be the Art of Noise "The Drum and Bass
Collection". Which in no way resembles the AoN, but instead is the
remixers own tracks using bits and parts from AoN material.
Any news on the AoN and ZTT project ??

Subject: (ztt) FGTH Greatest Hits Questions...
Date: 01 Oct 1997 22:00:37 EDT
-Hi all,
My name is Gabe LeBlanc and I live in Duluth, Minnesota and am 16
y/o. Anyone know where Duluth is? Anyway, just bought The Greatest Hits
of FGTH a couple months ago at BestBuyÖ and love it! I had bought the
new Maxi Single of Relax and loved all the mixes on that Maxi Single too.
Anyway, since I've only really been a FGTH fan for a couple months now I
was just wondering if you all could give me the names of all the albums
and FGTH did. I'd have to say my favorite song by FGTH right now is
Warriors of the Wasteland. Oh, DAMN, and one thing I found while in
Paris over the summer at Virgin Megastores in The Louvre was FGTH B-sides
CD and it had the same exact cover as the The Greatest Hits CD. Does
anyone know where I can get that B-side cd? If so, PLEASE let me know!
I'd be willing to pay $$$ for it. Thanks in advance to anyone who can
help! Take care and may the 80's be with you!
-Gabe :)

I like TCH's works VERY much but to be honest, his (social) reputation is
not very positive.
His wife's reputation is even worst :
Just a list of artists/bands he had problems with :
- His partner in the Buggles
- FGTH - Holly Johnson
- Art Of Noise members
- Propaganda
- Tim Simenon (TCH asked him to remix a song from Seal and TCH
"forgot" to mention him
on the sleeve.
I have once read an article about him and Jill Sinclair. They were both
described as : pirates, dictators and dishonest.
Nevertheless, I still do like his works and I don't care about his reputation.

Not necessarily - don't get me wrong - I love Anne and JJ tons but no
record AON or otherwise ever came close to what Who's Afraid was. (I
guess Trevor and Paul made all the difference there.) I can't wait to

(For the record, my favorite AON record is not "Who's Afraid" but it's
"In No Sense?".)

I'm sure there are many more - all I have are the two on "Into Battle"
("Moments In Love" and "Moment In Love") ("Moments In Love" is also on
the "Who's Afraid Of" album); "Love" (from the 12" of "Moments In Love"
and the blue "Best Of"); and "(Three Fingers Of) Love" (again, from the
12").
The first AoN release was the "Into Battle With The Art Of Noise" EP on
26 September 1983. I have seven copies of this on 12" and one cassette;
according to Lazlo Nibble's discography, there is no CD and I've not been
able to find one anyway.
Ditto.

Well, so I'm making some noise for my ZTT Diversion Reference List here:
<http://titan.informatik.uni-bonn.de/~fitzner/zttvers.html> !!!
Check out The Art Of Noise there to see what MoL versions I have accumulated.
And please let me know if you've got one to add!
The first release was 'Into Battle with the Art of Noise', which included
Moments In Love and an exclusive version of Beat Box.

This is the most concise summary of the history I've yet seen, and I

BTW, has anyone ever heard of "Los Topolinos" which is where Susanne

Any info is appreciated.

uh. lets go way back.
picture yourself at your favorite record store in 1990. youre scrabblin'
around looking for that monumental -808 state cubik 12"- ... you look
everywhere but under 'M'. if you had, you would have seen the gem filed
there for: MC Tunes.
this guy had a goatee in 1990. whoa. he was a scruffy
grew-up-on-the-streets-rappin-guy. 808 state did all the music for his
projects.

excellent mix, one of the best they've done for AGES.
takes the quirky little track (under two minutes on the album), stretches it
out and underpins it with a pumped up rhythm track. superb.

808 State have recorded another track with MC Tunes called "Pump (Yer Fist)"
to be released as a single in 1995. It was promoed but never released,
however... but one mix appears on 808's Japan-only release "Thermo Kings".
By the way, what do you think about Graham Massey's excellent collaborations
with Bj÷rk? My favourite is "Karvel"...

Hey 808 Fans,
With all this talk regarding MC Tunes, is their 'The North At Its
Heights' album worth tracking down? I have the Thermo Kings and Pump
didn't do much for me. (I had a hard time believing 808 State was
even involved with this track.) Is 'The North...' similar, better,
or worse?

Thanks for posting this URL. I was still looking at their old site
which hadn't be updated in months...

Well, I believe 'The North' is a lot better than 'Pump'. Although the CD
doesn't contain the fabulous 7" mixes of 'The Only Rhyme That Bites' (mixed
by Trevor Horn!) and 'Tunes Splits The Atom', it's definitely worth a
listen.
However, I believe the best of their collaboration is the original 1989
version of 'Dance Yourself To Death', which appears on a compilation CD of
the same name on German BlackOut Records (featuring also 808's 'Deepville'
and 'Let Yourself Go - 303 mix').

Dance Yourself To death. Yes, I know the song well! There are quite a
few versions of it! Does anyone know if this is the same "Dance Yourself
To Death" that appeared on the Greg Stump ski movie "License To Thrill"???
At the end of the movie, the credits read: 808 State "Dance Yourself To
Death" (Exclusive mix). I know its on the License To Thrill cassette
soundtrack, but I haven't been able to track down this version anywhere else.
The reason I ask this question is that there is a good chance that this IS
the same track because the video was put out in 1989 too! I know the
Exclusive mix is nearly 7 or 8 minutes long. Please let me know if anyone
knows!
Cheers, Josh
