I'm a Trevor Horn Fan...I was wondering if anyone knows anything about his
past...Like when it comes to "The Killers" a Bruce Woolley group that Horn
produced for. Was there a Killers Album? "The Killers" was on Satril label.
"Killer on the Dance Floor" is an awsome song!, does anyone else have it?

Yeah, picked this up a few weeks back. It sounds very stripped down compared
to the original (how could it not?) but doesn't have the guts to be the
full-on "unplugged" take on the material that would have made it really stand
out. His vocal sounds completely unsweetened in the mix, too, which isn't
necessarily a bad thing in and of itself but it's kind of distracting here.
I understand the album has been out for a while, anyone pick it up yet?

Ian Ferrell replies:
When I was over in England last month, there were two CD singles for Holly's
remake of Power of Love. I bought both and to be honest, didn't really enjoy
them at all. Guess I'm one of those slackers who was bamboozled by Trevor
Horn's luxurious mixing techniques, but Holly's versions sound very thin and
the tempo is not like the original Frankie version in places, which is very
jarring after 15 years of listening to the original mixes.
If the discs are not in the discography, I can forward the track information
to the list: I'm sitting here looking at the CDs as I type.

Yes, I've just received my copy from CDZone. I think it's quite pleasant,
there's some very nice pop tracks on it. Even though it is totally
self-produced at home in Hollys house, the sound quality is very good (but
of course nothing like FGTH).
All in all it sounds very much like Holly's other two albums. A bit old
fashioned maybe, but definitely worth listening.
If you're interested: CDZone has the album as well as both Power Of Love CD
singles and also the Disco Heaven CD single and 12".
http://www.cdzone.co.uk/
They also offer a FGTH CD calles 'Ultra Rare Trax'. I assume this is from
the same series as already available for a number of other artists like Pet
Shop Boys, KLF, The Orb... Does anybody have the tracklist?

I know that Trevor Horn produced half of this Rod Stewart album but I was
wondering what songs he did back up vocals for, at a music store in Mission
Viejo, Ca, I listened to one song off that CD at a computer and it was "Leave
Virginia Alone" (sung previously by Tom Petty) and there is one verse in the
song that sounds like Trevor Horn in the background...Does anybody happened

Holly Johnson's CD "Soulstream" was released in October on Pleasuredome. I
must say this is a fantastic album, and I recommend it to anyone who likes
dancepop. It may, as said, be a bit old fashioned, if you by old fashioned
mean that the album includes actual songs that are very well constructed. I
find the style reminiscent of '80s Pet Shop Boys, but with a '90s dance
sound. It is much better than Holly's earlier albums, and "Hope" was my
favourite track of last year. The only weaker track on the album is "The
Power of Love". The album version sounds almost like a replica of the FGTH
version. By the way, the single was no. 56 on the UK singles chart for two
weeks during Christmas. For more info, check out www.hollyjohnson.com or

signed to Deconstruction. He's recorded a few tracks and has done some
producing. I finally got to hear a demo CD the other day. It's a bit
garage-ish, not really my cup of tea. But he's a handsome chap with a good
voice, so I'm sure you'll be seeing him on Top Of The Pops before too long

No, it was distributed by Ocean Software (respectively their distributors).
I thought the game was pretty good. Actually one could argue it was the
first animated-walk-through adventure (years before Maniac Mansion).
But some of the various action-game inserts weren't really easy, and
I've never solved it!
Of course, my favourite was the ZTT puzzle :-)

I had a copy for the ZX Spectrum. You could buy it in the shops at the time.
I believe it was available on the Commodore 64 as well. It wasn't a great
game. Just an okay game. You might be able to find it on one of the
Spectrum/C64 emulators for the PC these days.

After seeing Art of Noise live, and hearing AON perform "something is missing",
someone asked "Why dont they record this?"
Well they did, sort of:
Buy the japanese 'seduction' and the bonus track "dreaming in colour: Green"
is basically that. paul distorted and mumbling and saying 'something ...is....missing'
during the song.
the cd is mastered very loudly, and is the same as the us in track times and
layout, except the 2 bonus tracks "roni size metaforce" and "dreaming in colour:
colour green brothers in rhythm via art of noise" are placed before the last
track "out of this world". the cover is slightly different too.
i also got a japanese 'fon mixes' with 3 bonus tracks "a nation rejects" (yeah!
the studio original version finally on cd), "dan dare (edited)". i dont see
how or where this was edited. and "art of love"(?) not sure if i Have that title
right, it was one of those youth-injected mega-mixes things from that 'ambient'
era. (i.e. forgettable).

It's very embarrassing, but I may have inadvertently sent out a couple of
postings with an email virus. McAfee has only just picked it up. Its called
Kak (seriously). It spreads itself by hacking Outlook Express
and adds its own HTML signature to every message. It also places some code
in the
registry that runs another file which pops up a stupid message every 1st day
of the month. It's not destructive, just annoying.
Check for files in WINDOWS / WINDOWS/SYSTEM called KAK.HTA. If you use
Outlook, check your signature settings. If infected, your signature file
will be KAK.HTA.

I'm trying to work out where it came from. Aaargh!
Sorry people.

Hello zangers
I thought I'd add an addition for Lazlo's discography machine and send out a
request.
Just got the following item, it contains a mix not referenced in lazlo's machine:
('pre-fab' 'd.j. copy' / 'not for sale')
12 BRX 113 (promo)
black jacket with sticker 4"x11"
Paul Rutherford "Get Real (sinister)"
a: get real (sinister) 6:31 (really 6:35)
b: get real (don't let 'em dub you down) 6:57 (really 6:31)
happy face 4:24
Do any of you own the Arthur Baker remixes for "I want your Love"? i'm working
on a compilation.
email me if you want to trade
just got a ton of frankie stuff (vinyl) too, incl 7" 'last seven inches' for
relax.
the cover for german 'beobachtungen' (wildlife) 12" is creepy!

Hello everyone.
In the new edition of MUZIK- magazine, DJ Dave Clarke is asked to =
compile his favorite tunes for a competition CD.
One of the tracks he picks is billed as:
=20
Propaganda: Machines (Trevor Horn Dub Mix).=20
Does anyone have any idea what mix he could be talking about???=20
His reason for picking this track:=20
"I'm really into Trevor Horn's production. He's a genious. This is a =
very powerful piece of music, very future-looking. Propaganda, Human =
League and Depeche Mode all bridged the gap between dance, tecnology and =
then techno....."

Date: 23 Feb 2000 16:09:14 +0100
I'm updating the 808 State discography on http://www.808state.com and
comparing it, I noticed this entry in Lazlo's discog:
808 State: Pacific 808:98 / Cubik:98
[4 May 1998] single
CSS: 1998 UK (ZTT; ZTT 98 C)
3:36 Pacific 808:98 (edit)
3:35 Cubik ["original"]
In my oppinion, there was no cassingle released for Pacific 808:98. Has
anyone seen it or is this a typo?
Thanks
Markus

Hi Zangers,
Check out the "new" ZTT website. It's under reconstruction but for the first
time in its history, the news is quite up to date.
There's news about the latest ART OF NOISE upcoming release:
"This is preceded on March 20th by the release of 'The Seduction Of Claude
Debussy' accompanied by a new bonus CD, 'Reduction'. Available in four
differently coloured sleeves, 'Reduction' features seven pieces, one or two
which have sampled old Art Of Noise music"
Joerg/Lazlo: I recently bought some yet unknown ZTT gems:
Shades Of Rhythm - The Jungle EP (S.O.R. 4) UK Promo 12" (ZTT / SAM 1222)
Sweet Sensation (Ray Keith Mix) / M.C.D.J. / Excorsist Lives On (SOR
Mix) /
Happy Feelings (Bash Street Kids)
Public Demand - Invisible "Dillinja Meets The Invisible Man" (Advance Copy
2) UK Promo 12" (ZTT / SAM1914) p/s
The Invisible Man Mix By Dillinja / The Invisible Man Returns
Greetings,
Henry

Subject: (ztt) The Art Of Noise
Date: 29 Feb 2000 16:19:11 -0000
Hello there,
Being a big ART OF NOISE fan from Germany, I have recently joined the
mailing list to gather more information about this band.
I am writing today as I am desperately looking for a copy of the ART OF
NOISE custom CD (full release).
Unluckily, there was no such offer in this country and the German fans were
not even informed about it.
I do hope that someone of you could lend me a helping hand in obtaining a
copy.
In return, I have something to offer that perhaps nobody else has worldwide.
I am in the fortunate position to provide you with a CD that contains more
than 70 minutes of music including the following:
* 'Into Trouble With The Noise Of Art' by Mainframe
(ultra rare mini-album; very much like early AON)
* '5 Minutes On ...' by Mainframe
(rare 3-track maxi; one title with vocals; also like AON)
* 'Why Me?' by THE ART OF NOISE (non CD-track)
* 'A Nation Rejects' by THE ART OF NOISE (non CD-track)
* 'Hoops And Mallets' by THE ART OF NOISE (non CD-track)
The sound quality is also very good. The original vinyl releases have been
professionally recorded to DAT and the tracks were meticulously 'cleaned'
before the transfer to the digital medium.
I look forward immensely to hearing from you in the near future.
In any event, I hope you won't find my request too presumptious.
Very many thanks in advance and best regards from Germany,
Roland Flieher
