I'd originally assumed it was to differentiate it from another song called
'machinery', rather like 'close to the edit' avoiding the more obvious title
'close to the edge' because of the album of that name by Yes.
I'd guessed that the P stood for Propaganda, until I read somehwere about a
computer language (the name of which ecapes me - possibly lisp?) that uses
'p-' to indicate a query... does anyone know more about this possibility?

Hi P-fans!
About that P stuff, I just remembered about a Basic COMPILER for the ZX spectrum
that got out in ... 1984/5 [coincidence, is it ??!!] called "Blast" that generated P-code.
That's right, it was not code, it was "pseudo" code, that was very much compressed,
and very nasty to understand. It was the first time I heard about the p-code.
Yes, I think this can be it! Hope I helped.

if you fancy a look, head to:

...and stuff by artists such as Aphex Twin, Coldcut, Derrick May, Fila

GIVE IT A LOOK!
plus - i've nearly finished a great big f-off 'rock/pop indie' list that i'll

it covers tonnes of stuff (including VERY collectable stuff) by:
All About Eve, The Cure, Danny Wilson, Deacon Blue, Depeche Mode, Erasure, The

You could do as I did and look at www.amazon.com to see the
tracklistings of any US CD releases.
By the way, I managed to get hold of the full 'interview' version of
Grace Jones' Slave to the Rhythm CD (unavailable in the UK, I know, i've
been trying to get hold of it for years) from here....and it only cost
me about ú10.

No, there doesn't seem to be any new tracks on the re-released discs.
CDs such as 'daft' and FGTH-Reload were reviously only available as
imports in the US - 'daft' and Reload are the same as the original UK
releases. The "Whos Afraid" CD is the same with the German? (2 silver
masks) sleeve. As there were so many different releases of Welcome to
the Pleasure Dome - I have no idea what version the new CD is - though
it seemed similar to the US cassette release...
Pretty much all of the re-releases had poor looking covers, liner notes,
and CD screens.

Hi ztters,
Saw TOTP2 on BBC2 last Saturday (England).
Frankie were doing 'Two Tribes' and Mr. Horn was doing the Buggles 'Video
killed the Radio Star' (same year I think-'84?). All this happened when I was
eight years old, when I suppose I started listening to music - brings back
some strange memories.
Any reactions to TOTP2 ?

Date: 10 Feb 1999 18:24:21 EST
Hello All,
My name is Neal, and I am obviously new to the list. When FGTH first came
out, I was into collecting any and all 12" singles I could find. Even
collected a 7" single or two.
Well, now I have no turntable, and no interest in getting another one, so
I have a collection of singles and LPs, and no way to hear them. I joined this
list to see if someone would be interested in tradeing with me, or buying from
me if you like, so I may update my collection to CDs. I have the
Welcome...../Power of Love/Two Tribes CD single CDs that came out a few years
back. I am looking for all other FGTH CDs.
Please feel free to contact me if anyone can help me with my collection.
P.S. >I am notorious for collecting remixes and singles. I have an
interest in Art of Noise music, but never really had the opportunity to begin
collecting them. Any help on a discography for FGTH and AON that includes
remixes and singles would be a great help,
I look forward to learning a great deal more about one of my favorite
bands.
Neal

No, Rob!
You are talking about H-O-llelujah, which is indeed a very crapy
b-side track of atomic city.
This is a complet new song called "H-A-llelujah" (with A not with O).
It@s excellent, but it@s only a promo release yet. When and if it get
released nobody (including Holly) knows.
Check out the Holly-fan-pages.
You can even listen to a sample of this song on a Telephon-Hotline!

http://home.earthlink.net/~themgnt/dream.htm
It's only 96kps as I didn't have the space but arrangements are being made to
host the entire single at a more respectable 128kps.
Enjoy.

Thanks for making my day. Maybe I'm just in a good mood or something,
but I'd almost call this the perfect piece of music.
Is there any clue as to how much of the sound is due to AoN and how much
to the WoW remix? For example, is the beat very different on the other
two versions?

I never saw this mentioned, so here you go.
Looks like on 15 Nov 1998, ZTT and WEA reissued the first four Seal
maxi-singles in Japan. I picked them all up at the local Tower because
I'm a completist nut who didn't actually NEED them but is a suck for a
cool OBI strip ;-)
Relevant snippage from Laz' discography with my addition:
Seal: Crazy
CD5: 1991 JP (WEA; WMC5-343)
1998 JP (ZTT/WEA; WPCR-2201)

6:25 Krazy
5:29 Crazy (william orbit mix)
7:00 Crazy (acoustic version/instrumental version)
6:24 Sparkle (extended version)

Seal: Killer
CD5: 1991 JP (ZTT/WEA; ??)
CD5: 1998 JP (ZTT/WEA; WPCR-2204)
9:22 Killer [single version/live at sarm west studios]
6:22 Killer (william orbit remix)
5:53 Killer (william orbit dub)
4:23 Killer (3d mix)
4:21 Hey Joe (live at sarm west studios)
4:38 Whirlpool (live at sarm west studios)

I recommend them if you didn't pick up the US ones first time around, or

it's EXCELLENT. i was very pleasantly surprised, as i didn't think it would be
that good, mainly because 'concept albums' generally suck.
this is narrated throughout by well-known actor John Hurt (although Paul
Morley's voice does crop up in the first and last tracks).
the album is more like one piece, split up into various movements - with a
common vocal refrain appearing at regular intervals throughout the album.
the album is a mixture of classical, techno, drum and bass, and even rap (on a
couple of tracks). that doesn't sound good, but it really works.
there's even a little snippet of Moments In Love thrown in towards the end.
it's so OBVIOUSLY a TCH production, as it's very lush and clean-sounding.
all in all....VERY good.

Hello People!
Yesterday was such a special surprise to me, that I've got to write to you.
Yesterday, I received a tape copy of the new Art Of Noise album (the one that
Smiley wrote about earlier) - whatever its name will be.
And the surprise was that it's in fact incredibly great!
Absolutely UNBELIEVABLE!!!
I haven't made a secret of the fact that I had very low expectations of a
new AON album, before. Even though I knew the AON _was_ great, the 'Dream On'
12" didn't change my suspicious preconceptions (since I knew that WOW _is_
great).
Anyway, now that I have heard the new one, I'm deeply impressed. The AON did
it again! And I'm really happy about that. Moreover I'm happy about the
pleasure it is to listen to such great music!
I won't try start to describe how it sounds or which colour it's got. But
I'm sure anybody who liked the old AON will love the new one as well!
Somehow it's got their trademark, although it's totally different. It's
magic!
I began losing my faith in TCH's productions, but this truly proves me wrong!
He still can, if he wants, make the album of the year.
"Ladies and Gentlemen: The Art Of Noise!"
Let's have a party!

OK, where and when can I get this (the actual CD, not the cassette promo)?
Anybody know for sure? I'm in the US...
Between this and Smiley's testimonial, the anticipation is killing me. And I
actually *liked* the "Wet Dream" mix that someone was kind enough to MP3
(thanks!).
I want the new album! What's the latest on its release? Help!

Hi,
It has come to my attention that there are several shows (4 to be exact)
being promoted in New Orleans as being Frankie Goes To Hollywood shows.
I have gotten several emails asking me about this. I have spoken to
Holly Johnson's management who assure me that these shows are NOT
sanctioned by them. Holly Johnson owns the rights to the name Frankie
Goes To Hollywood and has not given permission for the name to be used
by another band.
Caveat emptor.
Hopes this clears some things up.
Thanks,

Hi people,
I am interviewing the Art of Noise next week on behalf of DJ magazine!
I have two separate sessions booked - one with Anne Dudley and Paul
Morley and one with Trevor Horn (and possibly Lol Creme). The
Trevor/Lol session is intended to be a little more technology-oriented
for DJ mag's spin-off tech mag, EQ.
Please feel free to email me your questions...!! These can range from
the past to the future of AoN and it's members etc. etc.. I will pose
the best ones to the band on your behalf. And if this works well, I'll
include the 'Internet Q&A' in the finished DJ mag article....
Also, if there's enough groovy questions asked, I'll post a sneak peak
of the interview (which will be published in May) to this list first...
(also please feel free to forward this lists other than ZTT...)
all the best,

Hi Ian,
Lucky you!
I have the following Art of Noise related questions. Feel free to choose
from my personal brainstorming:
- Why all the www.ztt.com secrecy on the Art of Noise?
- Why isn't the new 12" public available?
- Is it ZTT's official comment that the MP3 file on
http://home.earthlink.net/~themgnt/dream.htm should be removed?
- Any release dates? Any release dates that we can believe in?
- Have the other Art of Noise persons (Gary Langan and J.J.Jeczalik) been
invited to this new project?
- Now that old groups are reappearing! What about the Buggles? There have
been talks on releases of old demo sessions between Trevor Horn and Geoffrey
Downes!
- Any biography on its way?
- The idea of re-union, was it to redo old themes or to make only new tunes?
- Has it been difficult both to forget Into Battle With The AoN and make new
tunes; at the same time as new tunes were made, and to keep calling the
group Art of Noise?
- Has Lol adn Anne worked together on other recordings that: Toys
Soundtrack, Rod Stewart "Spanner in the Works", Tina Turner "Wildest
dreams", Cher "It's a man's world"?
- If hope the album is full of information on the tracks, musician and
magicians! Or is it Paul Morley-style resulting in full booklets with
slogans and mystery?
- Does ZTT consider any friendly attitude towards this ztt-MailingList? I
mean any pre-release information? Possibilities to buy or get (promo) items?
Or at least some indication from them, that they consider us as customers?
Please List! Come forward with other questions??
