  29. I think I already answered this, but _Giant Robot_, which was mastered in
  30. August, 1993 (!) is out in Japan on Sony.  At this point, it looks grim for
  31. US  release unless Sony wakes up.  It is *much* better than
  32. _Bucketheadland_.  It is also a concept album, mostly around a horror film.

  42. I don't think it's worth it.  I paid $22 and still thought it was
  43. overpriced for the amount of good stuff on it.  And the second disc is weak
  44. remixes of stuff from the first disc.

  61. all i know about buckethead is that he used to be in a bay area band called
  62. the Deli Creeps.  on their last show, they were opening for Mr. Bungle, but
  63. the Deli Creeps never showed up (they quit instead) and some guy came out
  64. and threw all their demos into the crowd.  Apparently that same night mike
  65. patton excreted on stage.
  66. but this guy who was there, and at some shows where the Deli Creeps played,
  67. told me Buckethead was raised in a chicken coop, imprisoned in their by his
  68. parents. They gave him a guitar tho so that's all he did. that's why he's
  69. so fast, even faster than ygnwvie or however you spell that rocker's name.

  147.     When he used to be in the local SF band, The Deli Creeps,
  148.     Buckethead used to wear a plain Kentucky Fried Chicken
  149.     bucket on his head along with an expressionless white
  150.     face mask.  Haven't seen him live in a while, so I
  151.     don't know if he still does.

  174. Legend has it Buckethead was raised in a chicken coop by chickens and they
  175. pecked out his vocal chords so he can't speek.  Can't confirm anything else
  176. although I'd be very interested to know.

  191. if this group is devoted to other nyc noise artists as well as zorn, then 
  192. this disc is a decent chronology.  it`s released by muworks records, and 
  193. it's a collection of works from nyc underground in 1982 and 1992.  the 92 
  194. sections feature such happenings as a zorn/eye piece, borbetamagus, the 
  195. soldier string quartet, god is my co-pilot, mark sloan, mofungo, henry 
  196. kaiser, hal willner...lots more.  the 82 parts have wayne horvitz and 
  197. fred frith, martin bisi, arto lindsey, bill obrecht, christian 
  198. marclay...a lot of people on this disk appeared also on _the big 
  199. gundown_.  if you can find this, which is a little doubtful, try it on 
  200. for size.  it's an experience.

  220. Subsonic doesn't exactly look like a spin off of Sub Rosa but rather the
  221. first in a new series of compilations (cf. the Myths, Le Coeur de Monde, &
  222. Utopian Diaries series).  I'm sure that it, like everything else on SR, is
  223. under the musical direction of Guy Marc Hinant & Frederic Walheer.  The
  224. sub-title to the new series would appear to be "reinventing the guitar." 
  225. The Marc Ribot material on "sounds of a distant episode" is by far the
  226. roughest (i.e. "difficult listening") that I've ever heard from him (my
  227. experience with Mr Ribot comprising the two lps on Crepuscule, various
  228. appearances on Knitting Factory, the lp on Avant, and, of course the Jazz
  229. Passengers - all this would be just the tip of the iceberg I suppose?). 
  230. It's comparable to, say, the second and third tracks from "Shrek".  But
  231. way more spaced out. I like the Frith tracks, but they seem to be pretty
  232. much in the same vein as the only other solo Frith record I've ever heard: 
  233. the "live in Japan" box from about 10 years ago.  So I can't very well say
  234. just how it compares to his other work.

  236. If you've got the time for difficult listening I'd recommend the disc. 
  237. But I'm totally biased since Sub Rosa is my favorite label (that is still
  238. current, anyway).  If anyone else is similarly afflicted, let me know and
  239. I'll post the label discography that I've been working on.  I'd appreciate
  240. help in filling in the gaps.
