Of course we love our frontmen, but the words get old faster than the music....
Are there any Tin Machine albums without Bowie?
Rollins Band albums without Henry?

This is really out there, but there's a steel drummer in Japan that
does experimental music of sorts. Sadly, I can't think of his name
at the moment. Not exactly traditional, but still....

Subject: Eno
Those early Eno years were totally fab! I lost him during his (and
current) U2 years. I respect him, but I find his current work not
that interesting. Generally I don't think he's the greatest producer
in the world. I really miss his old sound - very textural and
intense. I thought he started losing the pilot during his 'Talking
Heads' years - and I never really liked the record he did with David
Byrne. I much prefered the 'Movies' album by the guy from Can. The
concept was basically the same. Getting sounds from other sources -
especially the vocals.
Sorry my memory is not too good due that - generally my memory is
bad in the mornings -plus I am suffering from a head cold from hell!

Are you thinking of "Panhandling" from Fast Forward on Lovely? He's British, though, I think and this is certainly not the usual steel drum stuff. I thought the album pretty worthless.

My favorite steel drum band is Bakra Bata. They do a wide mix of both
traditional songs as well as contemporary covers (moondance, redemption song
etc).
They have a few cds out and they're all available at their website
http://www.bakrabata.com/ (including soundclips for the curious). I
particularly enjoy "Music For Bad Guys" and "Steel Drums and Percussion".
Oddly, they're from Seattle Washington. However they also tour around
frequently and I can't recommend enough seeing their live show. The first
time I heard them, it was at Milwaukee Summerfest of all places.

i would say _here come the warm jets_ should be the starting point, but
maybe just because it was mine. it's still my favorite of those pop records.
really, tho, i can't begin to think about knowing how to express how much i
love ALL the early eno stuff. fripp's solo on "st. elmo's fire" (_another
green world_) alone justifies being alive, and the title track to _warm
jets_ is one of the only songs i can think of that i see as both completely
heartbreaking and totally triumphant. the whole record is that way, tho.
_tiger mountain_, _no pussyfooting_, _evening star_, the cluster collabs,
the ambient records; all great. get them all...
