one, "Songbird Suite", on tuesday. I'm really digging it- it's about 50/5=

kit and jen choi and craig taborn just going nuts.

it's not a new edition. there's a three page forward by Eno, and zero
updating of Nyman's text, automatically making it seem as if experimental
music came to a crashing halt in 1974. I can't say I've ever found this book
of more than mildly historical interest, but maybe it was more important at
the time.
if you had bothered to ask in lieu of automatically assuming my status of moron, i would have readily said that nyman chose to not update any of the information in the book. i said the new edition. i didn't say updated. pay attention! i think the book is still very important, minus its total lack of experimental computer music (not applicable at the time) and female composer content (something you probably wouldn't know anything about, being a male chauvinist pig).
i posted this publicly because i do not appreciate being insulted publicly, and will readily return the favour if someone deems it necessary to do so.
my Kraftwerk suggestion is Organization-Tone Float, Ralf and Florian's first
appearance on record, a more rockish record with a quintet from 1970, just
before the three Kurt mentioned, all of which are also quite good. the first
Tangerine Dream record, Electronic Meditation, is also recommended,
surprisingly wild.

I believe KFW isn't about impressive schedules: they have always had bad
albums in their catalogues, giving people chances to grow. Even nowadays,
great KFW albums appear, I don't feel much has changed.
Cuong Vu, Frank London stuff, the Rashied Ali re-issues, Brad Shepik: all
wonderful and surprising albums from last KFW year.

You are absolutely right in trying to forget the names of the wannabees, but
it was exactly that hit and miss policy in the sixties, that produced some
wonderful albums on huge labels like Columbia and Decca. Forget the new
shite, it doesn't get remembered anyway. KFW is trying, and is not releasing
'readymade' finished product, like others do. they flunk once in a while,
mhm, yeah. I do too.

gibberish and spam. here on the zorn list, when people burst onto the list
with a flurry of inane postings on tangelos etc., some of us oldtimers try to
help those people to exercise a bit of restraint before posting every aside

Subject: why doesn't Tzadik hook up college/independent radio?
As some of you may or may not know, I'm the music director of a pretty
decent college radio station (www.wuvt.vt.edu ).
Since taking over the position, I was told by the previous guy to not even
bother supplicating Tzadik for records...apparently, they could care less
about hooking up radio stations, or even offering a discounted purchase
price for their records.
Does anyone know why? I just don't get it. Not even NPR stations play Tzadik
records...college/independent radio is THE format that pushes their stuff.
Considering the volume of records that Tzadik puts out, they're obviously
not hurting too bad in the financial department - why don't they hook us up
with records, or at the very least offer a discount purchasing program?
It just seems a bit selfish- when guys that are running tiny labels out of
their bedrooms, not even breaking even in the $$ department are willing to
