Subject: Black Lions on sale (NZ)
I picked up a number of Black Lion releases (Hemphill, Ayler, Braxton, Lake,
AEC) yesterday for $2.99 a piece(!) at www.broinc.com . I've ordered from
them before, and they are certainly slow, but at these prices you can be
patient. Also got a few albums from Prestige, RTE, and New World. Bear in
mind that most of their catalog is classical, but if you really search,
you'll find some good stuff.

they would be a great music video, esp if shot and edited by the right
camera man, could really enhance the experience of cobra and other
gamepieces.
There were a few cobras at tonic where I couldnt see a thing, just
because you are there doesnt mean you get the full effect.

I meant to post this info earlier and forgot. I've been ordering off and on from Berkshire for about ten years and haven't had any problems with them; they can be a tad slow but heck isn't life too fast anyway? At times they've had some good inexpensive overstocks from Hat Art (McPhee's Tenor!), New World, Ocora, ASV, Harmonia Mundi, New Albion, ECM, Nonesuch, etc. Too bad I haven't found anything like this for rock/pop albums.
One thing to be careful about, though, is that some of the items may be imports that don't match your or at least my first conception. Some Charly reissues, for instance, were not the usual British Charly albums with good notes but bare-bones budget releases hardly worth even a few bucks. Also, some of the Prestige albums they've listed are similarly European budget compilations and not US Prestige releases. On the other hand, I got some dirt-cheap German Comedian Harmonist albums and a tango set that have practically no notes but some great music.

Wow. Is it available anywhere?

They screened it at Tonic a couple of years ago, but I missed it. I think
it was during a month that Bailey was curating/featured. If anyone has
leads to a copy of it, I'd love to see it (it also focuses a bit on Latin
jazz great Eddie Palmieri).

Yes, most certainly... though in concept and function, I believe they're more
related than they are different.
Of course, the real point is that recordings are always only a vestage of
what's happened, a snapshot of one version. Zorn's game pieces and Cage's
indeterminate scores are the extreme, but it applies equally as well to ANY
recorded piece of music (with the possible exception of some (most?) electronic
music - though, still, the way in which electronic music is "performed" by a DJ
blurs even this boundary).

I should relate this to the discussion about recordings, not the concept and
function of the pieces themselves.

I hate to ask, but the most recent issue of Computer Music Journal has
nothing about Mike Patton, so could you please spell out your acronym?
