Subject: some metalrecommendations
Hi all,
This week I came across two very interesting albums which I think are
interesting for those who are into extreme metal:
Krisiun - Ageless Venomous
These guys from Brazil play very fast deathmetal, at moments heavily
influenced by Morbid Angel. The clear and vey dry production make them an
exception in the genre though. Nice guitarsolos and highly structured
compostions and fast, fast, fast.
Mastodon - Lifesblood (ep)
Out on Relapse soon (I think next week). This is the new band of ex-Today Is
The Day drummer Bran Dailor so you know what to expect in the percussive
department. Altough the music has a lot of TITD-elements, they sound a lot
heavier with grunt like vocals and thrashy riffing. Jazzy at times, funny
samples, but above all fenomenal musicianship. Maybe the most refreshing
band on the label, next to Dillinger Escape Plan.

As far as I understood, Pigpen departed when Zony came along (well not
necessarily in that order)...

Hello list,
I've recently purchased GOFLESH double CD compilation "In All Languages".
I really liked one track from the "Us and Them" album that mixed their
typical grindcore with drum n bass beats. Is the whole album like this?
What bands are doing this? What are your recommendations for good, techno
influence grindcore (not that sh*t that's playing the radio right now).
Thank you

excellent album. I left RADIOHEAD back in their PABLO HONEY phase and never
listened to them again. Glad I did.)

I don't think Pigpen has released anything since the debut of Zony
Mash (I think Briggan Krause's moving to NYC had something to do with
the demise). However, there were a few performances in Seattle a
while ago with Zony Mash +Briggan, Fred Chalenor and Mike Stone under
the name PigMash. Don't know if it was recorded, but sounds like it
would've been great. Also, Krause's CD "300" on Knitting Factory has
Horvitz, and some of it is similar to some of the more out moments of
Pigpen.

Hello!
Has anybody had a chance to listen to Otomo Yoshihide's new band Date Cource
Pentagon Royal Garden??
A very interesting lineup:
with Naruyoshi Kikuchi (VOX-organ, CD-J), Yoshihide Otomo (guitar), Koki
Takai (guitar), Masaki Kurihara (bass), Masayasu Tsuboguchi (keyboards),
Kenta Tsugami (sax, flute), Yoshihiro Goseki (tenor sax), Yasuhiro Yoshigaki
(drums), Nobuo Fujii (drums), Masaki Yoshimi (tabla) and Gen Ogimi
(percussion);
I guess it's not sinewave minimalism anymore! In fact, given that there is
tabla's invovled, this might be a totally new direction for Otomo..? Anybody
has more information?

I've finally managed to get my hands on the book about the duel on
Ganryu island. It's called "This is kendo, the japonese art of fencing"
and was written by J. Sasamori e G. Warner. There it is stated that Ganryu
Sasaki, a samurai from Hiroshima was defeated in a fencing match by
Munisai Shimmen. He later murdered him because of this. Shimmen was the
father of Musashi Miyamoto who went in pursuit of Sasaki and caught him in
Ganyujima, in Kyushu, a few years later. A duel issued in the beach and
Musashi killed Sasaki.
If you [PatRice] could check this in your book on Musashi i would

Well, I have only heard one track from Incus CD-R2 Chats,
which was called "In My Studio" but has been rereleased as
"Henry". This piece was originally released on Aerial #5,
1992. I think you can still get it from Cadence. As far as
I can tell, it is the only previously released piece. Anyway,
in the vein of Bailey speaking and playing pieces, this is
a good one. In it, Bailey sardonically reads from an
interview with Henry Kaiser discussing some techniques of
recording in the "advanced electronic" studio.

p.s. On a related note, Zorn is credited as being on
Incus CD-R2 Chats. (Patrice, you will have to add it to
the discography.)
