Groove alla Turca is indeed a fine CD. Anyone who's interested in other modern Turkish music owes it to themselves to check out Replikas- a band that's very much akin to Krautrock. You can hear some song samples at: http://artists2.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/Replikas/ Their latest CD
(Koledoyuran) is available in NYC at Other Music. For anyone overseas, ReR in England also carries it (http://www.megacorp.u-net.com).
Another interesting local band there is Zen- also in the rock mode but pretty bonkers. They've had one of their CD's released here in the States by Ecstatic Peace! (they say that they still have copies of this available: http://www.smellslikerecords.com/ecstatic/).
There was also recently a good compilation of '60's and '70's Turkish rock/garage bands on Dionysus Records called "Hava Narghile": check out http://www.dionysusrecords.com/default.html
Sad to say, because the Turkish economy is in the dumpster (even more than the U.S. one) and because the local record companies are pretty lazy and/or corrupt, not a lot of this music is able to reach the Western world.
