Subject: rotation
Hi there
Here's the stuff receiving heaviest airplay in my abode...
Haino Keji: Aihiyo (Covers group) and the Aishuyo live covers CD. These 2
have the highest rotation by far the past 2 weeks. I also got the much
talked about "double live" Fushitsusha record, but wasn't all that
impressed. I think the tzadik releae "Allegorical Misunderstanding" is much
better, yet that usually gets talked down a bit. Given my preference,
anyone have recommendations on my next Fushitsusha purchase?
Also in the mix...
James Blood Ulmer - Tales of Captain Black. Anyone catch Saturday's duo
with Charlie Burnham at Tonic and care to share some thoughts? Last time I
caight blood with his backup band Earth Driver, it was rather
dissappointing.
William Parker - Painter's Spring.
Ornette Coleman - Body Meta.
Arto Lindsay - Noon Chill.
Beck - Midnight Vultures
Marc Ribot - Shrek
Primus - the Brown Album (I'm a sucker for Brain's low-fi drumming)
ciao
Jim M

To be honest, I'd label it a lukewarm effort from the once-great Malagasy ensemble Tarika Sammy. They dropped the "Sammy" part of the band name after a couple of its original members left, and have moved toward a more commercial sound over the past couple of albums (Henry Kaiser, the man who "discovered" the band now refers to them as "Tarika Shammy", if that says anything.) Go for the earlier material if you want to hear them at their best, IMO.

Subject: RE: Recent frequent plays
Miles Davis 'In a Silent Way'
(always in frequent rotation)
Ann Heymann 'Queen of Harps'
(Traditional Wire Strung Gaelic Harp, very different almost
harpsichord sounding and very powerful)
Bang on a Can Allstars 'Music For Airports'
Radiohead 'Amnesiac'
(Actually slackening off a bit, but was on high rotation)
Kronos Quartet with Aki Takahashi 'Morton Feldman, Piano and String Quartet'
(I love this album, so extended and meditative, great on headphones
and while going to sleep)
Nobukazu Takemura 'Scope'
AMM 'The Nameless Uncarved Block' 'Newfoundland' 'Laminal''
(The repeated listening of the Kronos Feldmen disc, led me to buy
more Feldman, which led me to Tilbury, which reminded me that I
hadn't listened to my AMM in a while. This combined with "Crunch"
time at work led to an AMM binge.
In a bit the Tilbury Feldman set will be in high rotation I suspect....
