Well, it's quite gripping. I haven't listened to the older solo records
recently, but what particularly strikes me about this one is the strong - and
yet unstrained - rhythmic drive, its uncluttered melodiousness, and the
"blue" feeling that it taps into. Schweizer is in absolute command
throughout. This is not the kind of "free" improvisation that sounds
unplanned. Dionysius submits to Apollo here, without in any way diminishing
the intensity and passion of the music being created. For those who like
Schweizer, an essential disk. (Of course, I think ALL her stuff is
essential...)

Could you let us know what they are, or are you under a sort of

I've switched all my CDRs over to slimcases, and I've condensed all two,
four, and six CD sets into smaller jewel cases. It's saved me HEAPS of
space. Of course now I fill that space with store bought CDs in regular
cases.
It's a pity more companies don't package discs the way Hatology does. Three
Hats fit in a single disc space on my shelf.
The great condenser,
Tom

This I like:

The sleeve lets you keep everything except the jewel case. Now all you'll
need is a nice box to keep 'em in (they don't fit in CD shelves, and you'll
need to flip through them).
And if you want something pretty but impractical, try this:

sorry for the promotional intrusion, and further apologies if you receive=20
more than one copy of this:
I'm proud to announce the release of the latest CD on my label:
Axel D=C3=B6rner/Kevin Drumm (Erstwhile 015)
Axel D=C3=B6rner and Kevin Drumm are two of the most exciting improvisers in=
the=20
world. D=C3=B6rner is at the forefront of a handful of young trumpeters who=20=
are=20
reexamining the instrument, approaching it from entirely different=20
perspectives, while Drumm's chameleon-like presence has been documented on a=
=20
handful of projects, each revealing new facets of his wide-ranging and uniqu=
e=20
talents on both guitar and electronics.=20
D=C3=B6rner hails from Cologne, and has been living in Berlin since 1994. He=
is=20
one of the busiest musicians in the European improv scene, working in=20
projects ranging from free improv ensembles like the Territory Band=20
(Okkadisk) and Hidros One (Caprice) to more abstract work with Annette Krebs=
,=20
G=C3=BCnter M=C3=BCller and Andrea Neumann. He has a solo CD out soon on A B=
ruit=20
Secret, as well as a trio disc with Xavier Charles and John Butcher on=20
Potlatch. Drumm lives in Chicago, and has quickly risen to prominence since=20
the release of his debut self-titled record (Perdition Plastics) in 1997.=20
He's released superb duo records with Taku Sugimoto (Sonoris) and Martin=20
T=C3=A9treault (Erstwhile), as well as an upcoming one with Ralf Wehowsky=20
(Selektion).=20
D=C3=B6rner and Drumm have performed together many times over the last few y=
ears,=20
both as a duo and as a trio with drummer Paul Lovens. This untitled CD was=20
compiled from two different studio sessions, one in Chicago in February 2000=
,=20
and the second in Vienna in October 2000, and reflects some of the wide rang=
e=20
of the approaches which this duo utilize. D=C3=B6rner and Drumm seamlessly m=
eld=20
the worlds of acoustic and electronic, occasionally teetering on the edge of=
=20
silence, yet always remaining impeccably musical.=20
The arresting cover photos were shot by illustrious Chicago critic and=20
musician John Corbett.=20
"Ever since I first heard about Axel D=C3=B6rner (courtesy of Mats Gustafsso=

more than one copy of this:
I'm proud to announce the release of the latest CD on my label:
Stilluppsteypa/TV Pow-We Are Everyone In The Room (Erstwhile 016)
Stilluppsteypa and TV Pow are two of the most prominent laptop trios in the=20
world of experimental music. Originally hailing from Iceland, Stilluppsteypa=
=20
was formed in 1992, and the current lineup of Heimir Bj=F6rg=FAlfsson, Sigtr=
yggur=20
Berg Sigmarsson, and Helgi Thorsson has been together since 1995. They've=20
released work on such prestigious labels as Ritornell, meme, and their own=20
FIRE.inc. imprint, but We Are Everyone In The Room is their first improv=20
record. Based in Chicago, TV Pow (Todd Carter, Brent Gutzeit and Michael=20
Hartman) was founded in 1995, and has performed with such prominent musician=
s=20
as Otomo Yoshihide, Erik M, Taku Sugimoto and John Butcher. Gutzeit and=20
Hartman also run the influential labels BoxMedia and Gentle Giant,=20
respectively, where most previous TV Pow material has appeared.=20
In late October 2000, Stilluppsteypa and TV Pow embarked on a week-long tour=
=20
of the US. The two groups, while familiar with each other's output, had neve=
r=20
worked together before, but did so for part or all of each of these=20
performances. We Are Everyone In The Room was compiled from these shows,=20
including their first collaboration ever at Tonic in NYC. Stilluppsteypa and=
=20
TV Pow combine a thorough knowledge and wide range of microscopic sounds wit=
h=20
an uncanny feel for their deployment within an improv context.=20
The captivating cover art was created by Leif Elggren, a Swedish conceptual=20
artist and co-founder of the Kingdoms of Elgaland-Vargaland.
"The more established the contemporary genre of noise music becomes, the mor=
e=20
surprising it is to hear serious creative distinctions. TV Pow and=20
Stilluppsteypa, two long standing outfits in a field known for there-and-gon=

participation, have proven to be both dedicated and utterly engaging in thei=

furthering of this most modern of musics. Informed by all concepts of avant=20

For information on digests or retrieving files and old messages send
"help" to the same address. Do not use quotes in your message.
A non-digest (direct mail) version of this list is also available; to
subscribe to that instead, replace all instances of "zorn-list-digest"
in the commands above with "zorn-list".
Back issues are available for anonymous FTP from ftp.xmission.com, in
pub/lists/zorn-list/archive. These are organized by date.
