  54. producing it, and releasing it on his defunct label, Pathological. my 
  55. favorite record from any of these bands was Ice-Under The Skin 
  56. (Pathological), but I'd be stunned if anyone could turn one up at this late 
  57. date.

  70. No, you're not.  But I'll admit that I had a devil of a time choosing
  71. between this one, 'California' and 'Mercury,' all of which are in my
  72. personal pantheon of drop dead brilliant albums.  Any one of them could have
  73. made the cut, and at different times I'd have been as likely to have listed
  74. one of the other two.  But ultimately I went with 'Everclear' 'cause it's
  75. the first one I even heard, and you always remember your first time.

  344. Sometimes it seems that they don't even listened to
  345. any seconds of that music. I am not particularly into
  346. metal, but I admit that, for instance, "Angel Dust",
  347. which I included in that top ten, changed my view of
  348. rock as a very valuable musical choice. That helped me
  349. not to have a pre-opinion on things I don't know in
  350. depth.
  351. Surely one can't be so narrow-minded as to unqualify a
  352. certain genre by relating to it in such general terms.

  374. I was lucky enough to see the Bonzo's many times in my youthful days. Zappa
  375. I suppose is a logical comparison - but. They were very English in their
  376. humour and to be honest did not have Z's musicality. But then he did not
  377. have Larry "legs" Williams (I think that was his name) on drums did he? Or
  378. Roger "Ruskin" Spear with his amazing kinetic wardrobe and the equally
  379. amazing Neil Innes. When I was even younger I was a big fan of Dr Crock and
  380. his Crackpots (a music hall / vaudeville act which I am sure Viv saw when
  381. he was young too and was influenced by them).Maybe an American comparison
  382. would be Spike Jones.

  446. 1.The first recorded music I  heard was Lotte Lenya's Brecht/Weill record
  447. that is still in print.  My parents played it all the time - plus my German
  448. grandmother had it in her house too.

  450. 2. Village Green Preservation Society by The Kinks:  I was sub-teen when I
  451. bought this.  At the time (and still) it struck me that it was music made by
  452. someone who was/is losing it.  It was extremely fragile.  It was at the time
  453. a definition of a nervous breakdown.

  455. 3. James Brown live at the Apollo:  My father played it at the house all the
  456. time.

  458. 4.  The Supremes 'Baby Love' and the Kinks 'Who Will Be The Next In Line.'
  459. Both singles that my father played over and over and over again.  It was

  462. 5.  I'M A MAN/STILL I AM SAD by the Yardbirds.  The very first single I ever
  463. bought. I must have been around 11 or 12 years old.  Before then I would use
  464. my loose change to buy candy or a comic.  But this was my first art

  467. 6. December's Children by the Rolling Stones:  An album that I owned for a
  468. week.  I got it for Xmas but lost it when my family house got smashed in a
  469. mudslide a week after Xmas.  I did find the album later but it was buried in
  470. mud - and therefore not playable.  Lovely record if memory serves me.

  472. 7. Have I the Right by the Honeycombs:  I couldn't believe something that
  473. good existed in this world!  Later, much later I discovered Joe Meek, the
  474. man behind the foot stomping'.  Also I found a copy of the album on CD in
  475. Japan.  Great album - even after all these years.

  477. 8. John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band:  Spending your childhood in the 60's and
  478. listening to all that love and love stuff - and then all of sudden this
  479. really negative sound coming from one of the great love figures ...was
  480. simply depressing and devastating.  It had the end of the world type of
  481. sound - which lead to 5 years later to
  482.  
  483. 9.Sex Pistols - Anarchy in the U.K.  One of the great sounding rock
  484. recordings ever.
  485.  
  486. 10. P.I.L.  Metal Box - Perfect art for a time that wasn't defined yet.
  487. That band was great - Wobble, Levine, Rotten wow.

  607. I'm arriving quite late on this.  Kudos to Jon for his intervention.  But 
  608. this is a badly overstated misreading of the quote by Yoshihide, who is 
  609. rightly recognizing that much of the new work in electro-acoustic improv 
  610. will be oblivious to all but the most ardent practitioners.  Even for me, 
  611. "recognition" comes slower than fascination.  It's kind of disappointing 
  612. actually to read such a scathing denunciation of a man whose modesty is as 
  613. much cultural as personal.  But then again, casual destruction is the order 
  614. of the day in certain few quarters around here.  Thankfully, though, not in 
  615. many.  It's worth noting as well that Yoshihide does not always work in the

  644. According to CDNOW (or Amazon, I forget), Archery has been remastered and 
  645. includes a disc of bonus outtakes.  I believe the outtakes are just one long 
  646. rehearsal.  It's a 3CD set.  For some reason, Cheap-CDs.com has it for $10.  
  647. Their website says it's the one released on 2/27/01, so I'm assuming it's the 
  648. 3CD set.  I bought one.
