  342. say his discography is around 300, many small releases on european labels. i
  343. also heard him say one time that if he could do whatever he wanted, he'd just

  374. FWIW - I'm the fan of "The Beatles" from 1965.. It is /was/ greatest band
  375. ever /not The Shaggs :))/ but IMHO Ringo was the soft underbelly of group.

  397. Yeah, i meant albums as leader--which, at last count, was 87.  According to 
  398. this disco, he's done another 65 with groups and others:

  436. Last year, I was visiting my sister in Ottawa, Canada, and she took me to a 
  437. show at the National Gallery.
  438. There was a trio playing called Seppuku.
  439. The main guy in the band played violin and cello.
  440. Does anyone know his work?
  441. Mark Molnar (maybe I spelled it wrong?).

  443. It was improv within compositions, and he was out of this world. Both on 
  444. violin and cello. I'd put him up there with everyone we've been talking 
  445. about. It was unbelievable.

  447. During the middle of a long violin piece, he wove the strangest melody in 
  448. and out of a HUGE vocalulary of sounds, and there were people around me 
  449. CRYING. I've never seen anything like it.
  450.  
  451. I talked to him after the show and bought a CD. He was really humble and 
  452. really intelligent. He plays all the instruments on the CD, and it is very 
  453. quiet and personal, but the live performance was damn powerful.
  454.  
  455. Does anyone know where he's from? Has anyone seen him perform?
  456.  
  457. My sister said he was performing in Montreal at the same place that the 
  458. Vandermark 5 just played at, sometime in October... is anyone going?
  459. I'm in New York and won't be able to make it.

  657. But you should go buy it, because it's one of those
  658. albums that won't let you close your mouth.
  659. Also, another Zorn duo album--since we're on the
  660. subject of duos and all--is the great Ganryu Island,
  661. with Sato Michihiro on shamisen and Zorn on reeds ala
  662. The Classic Guide to Strategy and Locus Solus. Ganryu
  663. Island, when I first heard it, kept me awake all night
  664. (with my mouth open).

  684. Brazillian singer/guitarist Marisa Monte has employed the talents of a few
  685. of our buddies on her three previous albums. Her brand new one (her
  686. fourth), is called "Memories, Chronicles and Declarations of Love" and is
  687. out on Metro Blue records. Produced my Arto Lindsey, there are a few names
  688. of note in the credits: Melvin Gibbs, Marc Ribot, Greg Cohen and Joey
  689. Baron. Thought you might like to know.

  725. here, but pop(ular) music is designed, performed, and
  726. packaged to appeal to the largest amount of people and
  727. sell the largest number of units...while that does
  728. take a certain amount of skill (not that much), it's
  729. more about advertising, trend-mongering, and the cult
  730. of personality than musicianship.
  731. so, maybe when we talk about pop drummers as geniuses,
  732. we should really be talking about their agents or
  733. their label's advertising executives--those are the
  734. real geniuses of the radio-friendly commodity game
  735.
