  49. of the most remarkable bands of the 1960's and '70's: part blues, part
  50. experimental, part free verse...and hugely influential. Beefheart fans

  52. Devo to Joan Osborne to David Byrne and a whole host of younger rockers.
  53. Beefheart quit performing in 1982 and devoted himself to painting. This
  54. summer, NINE CDs devoted to his music have been released. NPR's Rick

  126. be playing with Waits for the NYC shows. That was months ago, however ... long

  144. CD prices are a bit more scary here. Add half as much again for 
  145. those without credit cards and hence unable to buy except thru 
  146. local retail. (I'm assuming Mr Rizzi is referring to Tower Records in 
  147. London).

  151. Leo Records, long a bastion of affordable and excellent UK 
  152. releases, have just started up a new label called (with tongue firmly 
  153. in cheek) "Golden Years of New Jazz". First batch of releases 
  154. (fresh out this week) are long-lost 70s and 80s cuts from Sun Ra, 
  155. John Tchicai, Anthony Braxton and the Ganelin Trio. Stop press 
  156. reviews are on (musings). As far as I know, they go for a tenner 
  157. each plus p&p, which is rather civilised.

  321. I recently wittnessed a concert of "The Young Philadelphia" in
  322. Saalfelden/Austria.
  323. "The Young Philadelphian" is a project featuring Marc Ribot and John
  324. Zorn (among others... of course), the music is based on punk/noise, some
  325. very funky parts and the harmolodic concepts of Ornette Coleman (...I
  326. think so).
  327. It was very funny to watch "people with taste" leaving their good seats
  328. in the front row, because it seemed to be too damn noisy for them.
  329. Are there any recordings of "The Young Philadelphia" out there in the
  330. werstern and eastern hemisphere?

  332. Those people of you who are interested in good and intelligent
  333. hardcore-music, check out the Swedish hardcore-band "REFUSED". They have
  334. a record called "The shape of punk to come", which is well worth
  335. listening.

  517. funk-soul, but i understand he's doing more conventional jazz now.

  629. Starkland - known to me for their Tod Dockstader and Paul Dreshter
  630. releases - is not the label you expect to release the new
  631. Klucevsek-cd. But they did. It takes some courage to do so, as this
  632. is a solo cd by Klucevsek, which means listening to the accordion for

  634. capable player and composer and delivers an excellent cd with
  635. 'Transylvanian Softwear'. Klucevsek is known for his many
  636. cooperarions with musicians from downtown New York: John Zorn, David
  637. Garland, Elliot Sharp, etc. He is one of those few artists that
  638. succeeded to give the accordion a new life in the new music scene.
  639. But Klucevsek never forgets his roots lay somewhere in Eastern
  640. Europe. References to polka music and other world music are obvious
  641. on many of his output. This makes his 'new music' very listenable and
  642. accessible. This is also the case with 'Transylvanian Softwear'. Most
  643. compositions are from Klucevsek himself, others are from John Zorn,
  644. =46red Frith, William Duckworth. Most compositions are known from
  645. earlier cds, but presented here for the first time in a solo-version.
  646. So this one is for fans only I guess (DM).
