Happened to be talking to this LA developer yesterday and it turns out
he's doing the Knitting Factory West. Planning to open in January or
February. Hurray hurray for us left coasters!...
Since I received a couple of posts in response to my complaint a few
weeks ago about my CD changer not acknowledging the presence of certain
discs in the carousel, let me offer an update: To the person who
suggested the problem was the laser and I should hurray it in while
still under warranty -- thanks! The problem was clearly with the
machine and they didn't even want to try fixing it, so I got a new one
and a recharged warranty. It's a HK 8350. since somebody else mentioned
having just purchased one of these, let me say -- the clerk said they
get an "average" amount of them brought in for screwing up. Upon
further questioning, the best I could figure was that they sell a lot
of these units and get perhaps as many of them back as any other, but
that may be a factor of their popularity -- on the average, an average
number of them are returned.... I'm hoping for better luck with this
one.

Ha! there is so damn much, and how do you choose? well one of the best ways
is to go to a show and buy one of his custom made tapes. He is one of the
nicest, most accessable great musicians around. He has done a few shows
here in Tucson in small clubs, and they are always really good...here are a
few of my favorite records-
LSD C&W- how many kids are doing the alternacountry thing these days...
vermin of the blues- the radio piece alone is worth the price
any early shockabilly stuff- hell i still like to put on these records
every now and again.
btw how many of you own the naked city vinal released on shimmy disc! (i
do, i pilfered it from our guitarist before he left town) what ever
happened to kramer, i have heard strange rumors of the demise of shimmy
disc, just curious if anyone can add to those ;) or shed some
truth...shimmy was a strange label that released some really great records,
and...well...some stinkers.

Subject: new music recs
I'm interested in getting some specific recommendations on some really ear-stretching (and, implicitly, new-to-me) music, and how to get them (preferably online). E.g. Dumitrescu and I.S.O. I remember being oft-recommended, and I know I can get those from Forced Exposure. Where can I get Orchester 33 1/3 (Rhiz Records)? Can't find that. How about Parmegiani's De Natura Sonora (sp?)?
Anyway, I'm looking for things along those lines. No jazz or free improv recs - got lots of that already. And I have a modicum of electronica from Autechre, Oval, Microstoria, so skip those too. On the classical side, I already know Saariaho, Dillon, etc.
Many thanks, and please include sources for any recommendations, if you know them.

One CD that jumps to mind is Paul Dolden's "L'ivresse de la vitesse /
Intoxication by Speed" <http://www.interlog.com/~cmc/ds/CDs/L%27ivresse.html>
It includes amazing rushes of sound created by overlaying dense (but not
muddy) combinations of acoustic instruments that morph madly into one
