I do not know much about derek, but the Metheny-bailey-wertico-beard "the sign of four" is an intersting thing.
BTW, i've heard about a wertico - beard cd. Could someone tell me something about it?
BTW II From which CD came the tunes played by Dave Douglas on his last european tour (i' ve seen the waraaw concert at the end of march). He told that it was from his last cd, but i couldn't get it
Any info?
nice to be back here, anyhow...

I've gotta chime in alongside Brian re. the W & W packaging. Last summer I
picked up the "Big Satan" disc at Other Music and wondered "what is this
clunky thing?". Great music, of course, and I personally don't mind the
artwork (it's Byram, right?). But it looks and feels like some government
issue black box, and each time I go for the CD or put it back in its case
it seems like it's about to be mauled by the corrugated casing. Ugh.
Still, a great trio record.
And as for Wobbly Rail, kudos to Mac on his endeavor. I highly recommend
the Lacy disc, though it's only the first set of a stellar concert.

i saw lacy's concept piece, "the cry", this past sunday @ the district
of columbia jewish community center and i can't say that it was very
recommendable. aebi's singing was pretty lotte lenya-esque yet didn't bug
me as much as it used to. lacy sounded great, but his playing seemed
subordinated to the overall work. the piece never seemed to leave the
ground. for the record, i saw lacy's octet back in '93 and they blew me
away.
the ruins last night were amazing. they have the pure sound.
