  119. john zorn (about 10 min. and sheer beautiful noise)
  120. But I'm afraid that this album is not well-known. People seem to prefer
  121. albums like 'weird little boy' (i call it crap, others call it
  122. avant-art) instead of albums like this one...

  361. magazines, books should I read to realize how fooled I was? Don't hesitate to

  364. You seem to refuse the main point in my argument: Boulez was not just an
  365. artist making music or a conductor interpreting his/other's music (like Cage,
  366. Stockhausen, Xenakis, etc). He was in power, meaning controlling where the 
  367. money goes and who should be played. His fascination for power has been the
  368. subject of puzzlement among his piers. I am really surprised that you never
  369. heard of it.

  371. Did I say that Boulez stopped composing in the '60s? No, I said worse than
  372. that: nothing really major after the '50s. Check around, you will only see
  373. polite comments (best case) on what he did after the '50s. For someone who 
  374. was unanimously considered as the incarnation of the future of music in the 
  375. '50s, I find that a little bit strange. You don't. That's fine.

  377. Financing art in France? Or you are naive, or you just refuse any negative 
  378. comment on your man (and everybody will notice that my mail was not about
  379. Wynton Marsalis on r.m.b. :-). IRCAM ended up to gobble most of the credits
  380. allocated to research in music (like the Opera does with budget for classical
  381. music). Boulez' strong acceptance among the people in charge of financing the 
  382. arts was instrumental in favoring some forms of contemporary music, and not 
  383. others. I remember reading about Xenakis' bitterness at not being able to get
  384. any serious financement for his studio (when IRCAM was running full swing in
  385. creating the music of the future :-). I have not checked Georgie Born's book
  386. on IRCAM. I will.

  388. You don't seem to know anything about the intellectual atmosphere in France
  389. when Boulez was the darling of the French establishment. It is easy to dismiss
  390. all that as jealousy of "inferior" composers, or "gossipers" like me, and I am 
  391. sure that in many cases this is true. You might blame the politicians who are 
  392. looking for the "providential man" on whom they can download all their 
  393. responsabilities. Boulez was such a man for music. When he was in control,
  394. there was not any room left for anybody else.

  396. I never doubted about the brightness of Boulez. As far as talent is concerned
  397. I have no doubt that LE MARTEAU SANS MAITRE will keep shining as one of
  398. The masterpieces of the post-WWII music. But that's all. Yes, I think he is
  399. a great conductor, but by saying that I just repeat what many people said
  400. (although I think his version of LES NOCES is boring -- but JEUX is superb).

  432. Edwards.  The mind reels.  Only Elliott could draw a line between those two
  433. points.

  513. be listened or appreciated like anything you'll here on the top ten.  So

  515. and how?

  636. James Bond theme, whether he has written it or not. It's the music he has
