The new catalog from the Jazz Record Mart lists three Bailey videos: "Company
in Japan," "Mountain Stage" and "Will." They seem to be on Incus, at least
the catalog number starts with "Inc" and are performance videos. Has anybody
seen these?

I'm wondering if anyone caught the Dave Douglas show in Chicago last
night. How was it?
I would have been there, but I was watching 3 sets of the Melvins across

Subject: background noise
Hi. I had a question about the "Naked City" cd by John Zorn.
On track 10, the first of the 6 or 7 speed metal cuts, there's a strange
sound in the background as the guitar and bass hammer out the first few
beats before the drums and maniac vocals come in. After a few seconds of
everything jamming and a short screech of feedback, you can hear this
strange noise again, and it sounds like it's being sped up, maybe with
some vocal sounds layered into it somehow.
My question is, does anyone know what this is and how it was done. It's
a really cool effect whatever it is. Thanks for the information.

I think that is Frisell speeding up his delay pedal, or maybe not, but I
know he does that a lot. So, in a way it is a sampler.

Hi everyone,
I've just found a cd by Heiner goebbels called 'a man in an elvator' (if i reme

got his name- he played on locus solus, frisell's before we were born and so on
). It 's a vey nice alum, i recommend it.
But here comes the question: who is this ' Goebbels'? i know he played in a ban
d called cassiber, that featured also chris cutler, but nothing more.

frith: gravity, early henry cow...

Its 42:46. The music is good, not great. I've got the 'radio edit' album
as well as the CD. I havn't listend to the LP in qite some time, but i
seem to remember it being a cut-up. Tracks combined and shortened to
gain some airplay.

Dave told me this summer that it was set for September, but the owner of
Songlines told me "this fall".
He's supposed to send me a review copy and I haven't seen it yet, so I

has anyone heard anything more about this? are they printing more of
these? I snagged a a copy at Tower Records in chicago yesterday, even

Anyway, the point of this message is to tell everyone in chicago that
