Maybe this is old news but the Joy of Yiddish says tzaddik (spelled with two
d's) means "a most righteous man" though the second definition may be more
appropriate in this context, "a holy man; a man of surpassing virtue and
(possibly) supernatural powers."

it has been explained to me (by Judeo-Christian scholars) that the
core of the word "tzadik" is "righteous" and has various implications
the example that was given to me is that an auto mechanic upon finely
tuning a car could pronounce that beautiful purring hum as "tzadik"
(i.e., righteous...perhaps this is similar to using the word
"righteous" in a so-called "hip" or "slang" fashion?)
therefore objects and/or individuals could be described as possessing
the quality of or actually being innately "tzadik"
imho, this is one of the best possible names for a recording label

well, no soft "t" there. The TZ should be pronounced (like the hebrew letter
"Tzadi")
like in the infamous "Tze-Tze fly".

ok, this is Israel calling.
Tzadik comes from the "Tzedek" which is simply "Justice" (althought 'simply'
is a hard thing to say regarding such an old language...)
"Tzadik" is not simply righteous but has more religious and good human-relation
perfections... sort of. Anyway, Tzadik's logo is the hebrew letter "Tzadi"
which is called in general lingo "Tzadik" (Don't ask me why, it's just the
way we speak here).
I guess it also has some Kabbahlistik conotations as well but not many can
answer that.

It's a best-of. I believe the tracks have been remastered, but there's
no radical remixing to my ears. It's very nicely done for what it is.

Does Theo Bleckmann have any recordings? Do you?
Also, are you sure you want to give us Shelley Hirsch's home phone number?
In response to Nicholas Vassiliou's suggestion about Mike Patton, I just
bought it based on your recommendation. I like the experimental nature,
his playfulness. Having racks of digital delays and signal processors, his
techniques aren't so much of a mystery to me. What IS a mystery to me is
how he didn't get kicked out of all those hotel rooms where the pieces were
recorded.
I also woudn't call this recording 'acapella' as the dsp equipment could be
called an instrument.

Theo Bleckmann is an interesting and talented vocalist. He plays with
Meredith Monk and Kirk Nurock and Mark Dresser and Ben Monder and me among
others. You can reach him at (212) 206-7422.
Then of course there's Shelley Hirsch at (212) 226-1779.

Praxis is Bill, Bucket, Brain and DXT.
Sola, Pheeroan akLaff, Last Poets, and Rob Swift and X-Men.
Invisible Scratch Pickles were scratched from the lineup due to travel issues.

I will have exact details later this week. It is where the free shows
usually are.

You can send me a check for $100 and I will send you a beautiful

First, I feel I have to apologize for the crosspost (although it's an
interesting combination, I must say). However, the bulk of the message
would be the same no matter what list I sent it to, so I don't think it's
too big a deal. Just keep in mind that if you reply to my message,
please delete the names of the other lists in the header you dont
subscribe to or else your mail will likely bounce back.
Anyways, next week I'll be going to New York City. I'll be there
from the morning of the 3rd until the evening of the 7th. My agenda is
pretty loose. So far all I know is that I'll be seeing George Clinton
and the P-Funk All-Stars on both the 4th and the 5th, and I'll be going
back to Central Park the next day to catch Masada (my 1st time ever
seeing John Zorn Live!). The rest of the time is pretty flexible. I'd
like to hear any suggestions on what I should do to amuse myself, clubs,
record stores, guided tours of Greenpoint Studios (just kidding, Jeff!),
etc. Either send the replies directly to me, or, if they contain
information that is related to the list, post 'em for all to see. Two
questions that I hope someone could answer for me are:
1) Anyone know what time Masada/Cibo Matto/Ono starts on the 6th.
2) Here in Chicago we have a weekly paper called the Reader that is like
a comprehensive guide to all the goings on in the city (movies, concerts,
etc.) Does New York have something like this?
Thanks in advance and apologies again for the cross-posting.
Out 2 lunch with lunchmeat (and off 2 NYC soon),

Hello to all Zorn-listers and Boss-improv-listers!
Elliot Sharp and Zeena Parkins (together known as "Psycho-acoustic")
will be making the great journey from NYC to Boston on July 6 for a rare
appearance at the Middle East downstairs. E# is a multi-insrumentalist,
playing anything from doubleneck guitar/bass, to clarinet, to
instruments that he makes himself. Zeena Parkins plays electric harp (an
instrument which she designed)and to paraphrase Ellliot, "It's not just
the sound of the electric harp, it's the sound of Zeena's electric
harp." As Psycho-acoustic they have toured Eupope and Japan but this is
their first appearance in the Boston area.
My group Prelapse will also be playing this show. We'll be doing a set
of pieces that John Zorn wrote for Naked City. yes, we are Zorn-approved
#;-). Our set will consist of material that NC never played or
recorded. Our CD on Avant will be in stores sometime in the coming
months.
Also on the bill will be Debris, who I'm sure are not unknown to folks
on the Boss-improv list. Suffice to say that dull sounds are not in
their vocabulary.
And finally, their will be Saturnalia, making their first appearance
ever. I heard some tracks of their's last night, and I can't tell you
what to expect on Saturday. That's a compliment.
So come on down to hear some great music.

Dear fellow Zorn enthusiasts:
I wanted to know how many of us are going to the Masada July 6 show. I
thought it might be cool for some or all of us to meet face to face before

which I doubt). I live in New Hampshire, and from reading the list, it
appears that others are also traveling a far distance to check out this
event. So how 'bout it? should we come up with some kind of a meeting
plan, or am I just being stupid?
Any feedback would be welcome.
