  132.   I've been in Chicago for the last 4 years, and I try to hit every show
  133. that any of the 'New York' musicians play here.  They are never packed,
  134. usually not even crowded....
  135.   Not that many of Zorn's group ever come here.  I don't think Zorn himself
  136. has been here in 5 years.
  137.   The Knitting Factory did it's Loud Music Silent Film festival here a few
  138. years back, 2 nights, and there were probably about a hundred each night.

  140.   I was one of about 15 people who went to the Jazz record mart to see Zony
  141. Mash this summer (although it was hardly promoted at all)  I didn't see
  142. their show that night in a club (the Melvins were in town), but I doubt it
  143. was crowded...

  145. There is a temple in Oak Park (a suburb) that is starting to host alot of
  146. avant g. stuff.   In the last year there, I've seen Sun Ra Ark.    Bill
  147. Frisell Quartet (playing the most moving music, I almost cried) and Matt
  148. Shipp.   All these shows had about 50-60 people....    Tiny Bell Trio is

  197. I wasn't there, but according to Kato Hideki, it was Bailey, Zorn,
  198. Kramer (piano, voice, noise), Kato Hideki (bass), Robert Dick (flutes),
  199. Dave Douglas (trumpet, CD player), Ikue Mori (drum machines), Andy Haas
  200. (digeridoo).  Bobby Previte was supposed to play but did not.

  222. I put this on at work last week just before our manager sauntered into
  223. the room (a bullpen of engineers).  The opening lick of the album is a
  224. roar of Bailey and drum machine rolls, and the manager broke out
  225. laughing, turned around and left without saying anything else.  So on
  226. the basis of manager-repellant alone, it's worth the price.

  228. Seriously though, Bailey plays his spidery lines on electric with
  229. pretty much the same tone throughout, no acoustic guitar here.  The
  230. beats on their own might not be exceptional, but in combination with
  231. Bailey the album is not like anything else.  It's a little short,
  232. under forty minutes if I remember, but very high energy.  Sometimes
  233. Bailey and Ninj seem to be playing to different rhythms, but that
  234. accounts for a great deal of the energy, and the contrast between
  235. Bailey's free form lines and Ninj's very fast beats makes for powerful
  236. listening.

  309. If you like it when Derek Bailey plays the electric guitar at you, He's
  310. going to make you happy.
