Hoi!
Someone uploaded part of a track called 'Tool In Rose' to the FTP-
site. Is that really a Yello-track and if so, what's the story on it?
Groeven,
Olaf.
Because I probably have to buy a new cd-rom player...

I have it as the B-Side to the 12" version of "The Race" I bought many moons
ago. I bought the single on import, some months before it was actually
released in the UK. The details are Fontana 870 330-1. As to whether it is
available now - I'm afraid I haven't a clue.

These are the type of records I think Boris and Dieter do best, I

Great! I would like to hear it but your site is unbrowsable with
the Netscapes here even we have a JavaScript.
Please give the direct URL to the file.
Since moderately equipped net surfer cannot get anything reasonable
from your site, it must be really bad html/java code out there.
I wonder what is this "multimediahaus" thing in your post address
but it doesn't sound promising. Well, there are also many people

But Pocket Universe differs a lot from all other albums. It doesn't contain
any songs like Drive/Driven, Of Course I'm Lying" etc. I guess
dannybj@globalnet.co asked if Yello would make songs like these on their
next albums. BTW, this question is really interesting because their
'romantic songs' are wonderful!

I though so, but I wasn't sure. Anway you never know
what Yello plan. I heard excerpts from three new songs
(unfinished versions) and none of them were really
*romantic* but then again he was working on *25*
songs and it's a matter of what songs he will pick
for the new album (I'm sure some of them are romantic).
I wonder if all of you who want more romantic tracks
have Billy MacKenzie's 1992 album Outernational?
If not, then try to get it (it's deleted unfortunately)
because it has two very romantic tracks by Yello
(four unique Yello songs in all with Billy singing). JW

This ReMix i made three years ago. It was in the beginning
of "AIRMAN" and so i only used the Ensoniq ASR10 Sampler within
this song. Today my "machine park" is much greater !-))
But I think most important is the idea and the sound of the song.
It would be nice, if you try to hear my other songs too.
I think yello was a great influence for me.
(My favorites: "2future" and "Over Paris" - "Claire" is an soundFX
and noise story :)
Send me your opinions about the songs.
thx and have fun

I'm wondering if I am the only one that enjoys the Yello tracks that include
guitarist Chico Hablas on them? I bought his solo record a long time ago and
have fond memories of that as well, though admitedly I haven't played it for
several years.
I am not a guitar afficianado per se but would guess that he has a few Santana
records in his collection. His playing is spirited, thoughtful and it must
have been a treat for him to lay down some licks aside Boris' sound
constructions.
All the best,

If we are lucky, i.e if all the red tape and papers
are OK, then we will see a new Associates release
before the end of this year. It's the shelved album
"The Glamour Chase" from 1988 which will, I hope,
include at least four rare and/or unreleased Yello
tracks with Billy MacKenzie singing: Snowball (aka
Life Is a Snowball) [very rare], Rhythm Divine (with
Billy on vocals instead of Shirley), In Windows All
(which was released on Billy's solo 1992 album,
now deleted), and finally "Because You Love", which
is, according to Boris, beautiful! (Previously unreleased).
So let's keep our fingers crossed. JW
PS, more Associates albums will be out too on CD
at the same time (if....).

It is! It's on the BBC Radio 1 sessions CD. However, I heard a stunning
version of this recorded from a French TV show (hosted by Antoine de
Conard)... just Billy + piano. I don't think it ever made it onto vinyl
though, letalone CD.

The *one* bright point at the end of the Billy MacKenzie biography (which is a
great read and well recommended by the way) was the fact that the rights to
his recordings have reverted to his family. Here's hoping that a sensible
Associates reissue program is in the works...

Hi !
Do you remember the Remix-Contest with HowHow ?
On the Maxi-CDs there were this HowHow Samples an some more
from the "Boris sound library" ;-)
Yesterday i was happy to get an CD from "Recoil". This is an project from
the ex-Depeche Mode "Alan Wilder". The sound is good and after a half minute
i was really surprised as i heard this helicopter sound i know very well !
This sound is exactly on the howhow MaxiCD !
It is not only a helicopter, there is also an flanging-effect on it.
Have Alan Wilder this CD also or have both musican the same library and
boris does not design new sound for new songs ?
Another Experience in this direction i had about 3 years ago. A friend bought
the "Korg Wavestation". In this Synthesizer are exactly some Human sounds
Boris used on the (i think) Zebra.
Does Boris really Design new Sounds or have Korg asked Boris for sounds ?
I only asked this, because i hear more and more musicans who use library
sounds, since i hear this librarys as an musican too :-\
I think Boris design new sounds and i would do this too, if i can live from
the money as an musican ;-)
But strange, how easy some musicans take sounds...
Have anybody experiences of this kind too ?
have a nice weekend !

Hi yes I have noticed that Yello sounds are used quite a lot in
records I have heard ,particulary during the Rave scene here in
England 1988-1993.
Also On The Run 's twisting sax's was sampled heavely in I think Tin
Tin out's record released about 2 years ago.
It's nice to hear someone else has an interest in yello's sounds, I
got the How How samples of the future music magazine in 1994
where Boris also did a interview with the magazine...
I heard your Over Paris record which I liked a lot, a bit scary, it
would be fantastic in a horror film!
I have been trying to find Outernational does anyone know where I
could buy it?

S.A.X. human sounds are in Kurzweil. What human sounds do you mean?
So, should we record those sounds from the various synths in case we
would like to make remixes on our own?
>Does Boris really Design new Sounds or have Korg asked Boris for sounds ?
I would like to know all details about samples too. And if Boris use
sound libraries, I would like to know about those in case names of
collections are easily found out.
At 1985 one interview claimed that Boris will sell his sounds on CD.
I saw that CD cataloged in a catalog in shop -- price was about $200
and thus I didn't want to order it. Can anyone confirm this? Both
me and the guy in shop wondered why a CD could be so expensive.
I would like to have a copy of that sample CD!
By the way, I have a copy of Fairlight II sounds and there are
some sounds Yello used between 1981-1985 when they had FII.

I've seen more sample-cd's at that kind of prices, so it's probably
correct that it does cost about $200 (unfortunately).
The reasons for that are (I guess) that the artist sells you his
sounds so you can use them in your own (commercial)
productions. Sounds are not subject to royalties, so only by
expensive selling, the artist's able to make some money out of it.
Anyone correct me if you have a better story...

I'm always interested in all kind of samples. I'm trying to start up

Hello. The Airman remix is not worst Yello remix what I have heard.
That was more like a compliment. :-)
Immediately I observed additional string synths -- a bit Jarre
like -- and woman vocals. Putting woman singing instead of trying
to imitiate Dieter's voice (or putting a men to sing at all) is a good
idea. For you who don't know: How How sample set had no long vocal
lines available. But what about those extra strings: are the melodies
your own or did you copy the melodies from Yello stuff somewhere?
I dislike if bass frequencies (below 100 Hz or such) are boosted too
much. It may be amuzing to have bass sounds which puts everything
in the room to vibrate but too much is too much. For example,
Carl Cox's album -- the same which contains Musky, Cox's version
of Magnetic -- has too much bass: if you want hear mids and highs
good, you break your ears and get bass sickness because there is
too much bass.
So, Airman's remix has too much bass too in my opinion. Because I wanted
to verify it, I compared Airman remix with respect to Yello's The Premix
(How How). Airman remix has the frequency balance strongly toward the bass
when compared to Yello's remix. Airman's bass sound is located at 60 Hz and
Yello's at 40 Hz and 85 Hz. Airman's bass is about 6 dB higher (multiply
volume by two) than Yello's bass but the difference is practically even
higher because the frequency balance in Airman remix is toward the bass:
to hear mids good, listener has to turn the volume knob higher.
A minor thing is that the "How How" coming after woman's vocals sounds
like recorded through telephone lines. The continuity of the sentence
is "disturbted".
By the way, when I wrote about a problem in going to your web pages,
I had a Netscape in use at University. It had JavaScript but not Java.
I really don't know what went wrong but the same applies to every
computer at those computer rooms.
Yours,
Juhana

Thank you very much. I like compliments :-)

Yes. I read the text and thought about the opinions of the woman.
So i wrote the text with the view of the girl, dieter speak to.
A female friend have sung it. But at this time my equipment was not really
good, so i have only this magnetic tape i send to the contest. From this
tape i made the mp3. Perhaps i should record an instrumental remake with a
good sound later. (Animate me to do this ;-)
> But what about those extra strings: are the melodies
> your own or did you copy the melodies from Yello stuff somewhere?
No, it was a remix-contest and i am normally a composer myself.
So i wanted to make a version you would put onto an maxi-CD of howhow -
Another version of the same song. To give the song the touch of my own i put
this strings into the song and an spacy, atmospheric version began to fly
8-)
> [... analyzing the frequencies of the original an AIRMANs remix ...]
> to hear mids good, listener has to turn the volume knob higher.
Cool, you have found so many things in my song i never dreamed of !-))
Sorry, i mentioned it some lines below: My equipment was really bad. Only
my sampler, the voice, a simple mixer and a mid price cassette-recorder.
But you are right, the bass is very hard. I thought, that i would have a greater
chance, if i would compose a kind of dance-version.
So you hear this bass-drum (but it isn't a tekno-drum) and this simple high-hat
combination.
But at the end, on the winners-cd there was harder versions than my melodic
version.
Did anybody know this versions ?
I was not possible to believe that this mixes won two weeks in the studios of
Yello. 2 Versions are ok, but the other two - make your decision on your own:
Perhaps i should put them onto the yello-ftp-server, isn't it ?
> A minor thing is that the "How How" coming after woman's vocals sounds

Hm, right, but i thought this typical "how how" sample must be a part of the
song.
Sorry, about all the problems with my webpage. (I never used JAVA - strange).
I plan to make a very simple text-version, to give the lynx-user a chance also.
But the other version will be maked with flash - for the multimediafreaks ;-)
Thank you, Juhana, for the detalailed critic.
Sorry, for my bad english !-0
(Warum sprechen wir auch eigentlich nicht alle Schweitzer-Deutsch, so wie
Dieter und Boris ;-))
have a nice week !

I have loved Yello and their fantastic music since I first heard Si Senor
the Hairy Grill from One Second 10 years ago. I now have every album they
have released, and I try to collect as many singles and mixes as possible.
But now I need More. If anyone has any update on the forthcoming album
(anything really) I would be most interested.
A little about myself:

the list.

I must say it's a cool track, and Boris' mix on track 3 is certainly worth

Yes, it is very great movie. It was the first Japanese animation movie
which I ever seen. Actually movie is quite old, original version
includes Japanese music. This "new" English version is with English
soundtrack and music of Yello. The cover of film includes much good
words...
Film is quite hard to find. I buy my film about one year ago.
Have to say that Yello's soundtrack is super, but film it self is with
very good pictures. There is many parts where Yello's music make whole
feeling. Actyually film give to you many very sensitive moments...

I enjoyed the film also, but mainly for the music (I've only seen the
English version). I saw it when it was released in the cinema, but it has
also been shown on free to air TV down here. I have to agree with Marko,
Yello's music definitely adds to the feeling of the film. I couldn't really
imagine it with the Japanese music, the Yello music fits so well.

Yes they were released after the film, but both songs were in film with
different names...
They were some of these...

I got my copy of Space Adventure Cobra from iMVS earlier this year =
(<http://www.IMVS.co.uk>) It cost me 12.85 English pounds, but now =
it's price has risen dramatically to 12.86 pounds. You'd better be =
quick and get your copy!
Somehow, I can imagine Cobra playing Space Invaders...
Andromeda: Stop playing that game, we've got a world to save.
Cobra: Let me have just one more game.

I'm sure that 'Beyond Mirrors' was called 'Zebra' in the credits. I =
don't recall hearing Solar Driftwood in it - I'll have to watch it =
again :-)
The movie also features 'Moon Dog', but they forgot to list it in the =
credits.

I was told that Senseless was premiered in Germany,
so what was the movie like? Was there a German
soundtrack CD too? Did it include any Yello music?

Forgive my ignorance but what is 'Senseless?' What kind of movie is it?

I don't sure about movie, but
http://us.imdb.com/Credits?Senseless+(1998) says that original music is
Yello's.
In soundtrack CD there is any Yello music, that's sure because I seen
those cd in some store.

It's a US movie, premiered 19 Feb 1998 (according
to Warstad's Yello discography). Yello's music was
not finished in time for the soundtrack CD, so it's
only featured in the movie itself. Now that I heard
that it was premiered in Germany, there's a small
chance that they might include at least some of the
music on the German CD soundtrack. JW
