  6. Hoi!
  7.
  8. Good news! My cd-rom finally pulled through. It's not working very
  9. stable at the moment, but it's working.
  10. I hope to be able to make a list of my Yello-mp3-tracks in a short
  11. while now. As soon as it's finished, I'll notify the mailinglist.
  12.
  13. Today I've put a track by "BT" called "Divinity" on my site.
  14. It's a real good track, but if it's not your style, just skip to about 9
  15. minutes and 30 secs. There you'll find a Yello-sample from Celsius.

  288. I dont know a lot about the techy stuff behind setting one up, I know the
  289. majority of chat rooms are IRC style but there is a chat room for fans of

  315. Date: 04 Oct 1998 22:55:04 +0100
  316.
  317.
  318. I'd like to hear your opinions on using quotes in
  319. my (fortcoming) book on Yello. I have collected
  320. lots and lots of quotes from various sources
  321. and I have them all stored chronologically in
  322. my computer. Now, shall I use them or not?
  323.
  324. On one hand they're subject to copyright etc etc,
  325. and it may look "cheap" and "lazy" to use them
  326. in a commercial book, but on the other hand they
  327. often provide and interesting insight from that time
  328. and what good do they do in my computer?
  329.
  330. I have interviewed Boris about all the tracks etc,
  331. but I have yet to meet Dieter, and with his busy
  332. and unpredictable schedule I sincerely doubt that
  333. I will ever have a chance of interviewing him in person
  334. (no he doesn't have email) and the point is, Dieter
  335. is usually the one who did all their interviews.
  336.
  337. Right now I'm working on 1981, and I have to admit
  338. that including a few well chosen quotes here and there
  339. from 1981 looks much better that not including them.
  340.
  341. If anyone out there has any knowledge of using quotes
  342. from other people's interviews - the legal copyright stuff
  343. let me know, OK? Note that I only intend to use direct
  344. speech quotes from Dieter and Boris, never anything
  345. that was written by the interviewer himself. The tricky
  346. question is who owns the rights to what Dieter and Boris
  347. said - themselves or the interviewer who cought their
  348. words on tape? Someone in Zurich suggested that
  349. Yello themselves own the rights to their own words
  350. in interviews. Is it enough to mention [in brackets] after
  351. the quote where it's from (magazine and date) or do I
  352. have to get a personal approval from the person who
  353. did the interview (not an easy task!) Best, JW

  381. No, I'm sorry - 'infantile' just won't do! I don't think we're
  382. comparing BT to Yello. Yello aren't in the same ball park as BT (and
  383. many others) when it comes to writing for the dancefloor. It's simply
  384. not where they're coming from. 'Pocket Universe' is OK but it's stuck
  385. between what Yello is good at (their established stylistic approach)

  442. Date: 05 Oct 1998 19:14:38 +0200
  443.
  444.
  445. Hi Jonas !
  446.
  447. I am working myself on a final exam (but not on Yello).
  448. Therefore I have to use lot of quotes out from different sources
  449. s.a. film dialogues, interviews from TV&radio and also from books and
  450. magazines.
  451. The copyright is always on the side of the person who has expressed a thought.
  452. Even if the thought is written in a newspaper the right belongs to the
  453. interviewed person.
  454. An example: If you are are not willing to have your statement written in
  455. the newspaper
  456. you have the right to forbid that. Even if the reporter want to have this
  457. statement in his article he has to ask for a permisson. All the other
  458. things written in books, biblographies or reported on TV
  459. have the copyright of the journalist or author.
  460. In scientific works you are allowed to use quotes, but only in the correct
  461. sense. So you have to use complete sentences and you have to watch that you
  462. only use qoutes that do not missinterpretate the meaning of the original
  463. text. But most important at all is to write downt the exact source to the
  464. quote. The best thing would be to make a list at the end of the book with
  465. all the sources you have used. If you do these things correctly, there
  466. might be no problem in using quotes.
  467.
  468. Yours,
  469. G E O R G

  626. Hi,
  627.
  628. do you mean a "chat", or a WebPage with Comments ?
  629.
  630. The first would mean a real-time chat - if anybody is in there you
  631. can talk with him. If even not, you have to wait, perhaps for hours :-)
  632. This is possible with IRC but also on a web-site.
  633.
  634. The second would mean something like all this e-mail on one page.
  635. Everybody can read alle the e-mails.
  636.
  637. For me would be an IRC-Channel enough !-)

  774. I'm not too excited about this new ICQ-phenomena. It seems to me that the
  775. program performs a lot of 'hidden' things on my connection.
  776. A friend of mine talked me into trying it. But I quickly talked myself out
  777. of it. The security seems a bit... ehm low. Quite a few hackerpages
  778. describes how easy ICQ is to break in on.
  779. Anyway, besides the paranoia, I just like to keep my Internet apps as
  780. simple as possible.
  781. So why not take advantage of one of the many web-based solutions?
  782.
  783. Cheers,

  802. I'm on a quest of sorts - once upon a time about 10 years ago, I was
  803. standing in the local music store with $20 ni my pocket - Should I buy
  804. Yello's Flag CD or The Race? I bought Flag. Later on, I came back with
  805. more cash, but the Cd was gone. I had to put up with a cassette copy of
  806. The Race.
  807.
  808. Now, ten years later, I'm trying to track down a CD copy of The Race
  809. (U.S. import). It had 3 mixes of The Race, and I think a few variations
  810. of Oh Yeah... The fabled "After The Race" is on here as well.

  840.
  841. Hi all,
  842.     Jonas suggested to me that I share this submitted interview with Yello
  843. with
  844. the list. It's from NME (a UK music newspaper) March 1995 at the launch
  845. night of Hands On Yello. The text's below, but if it has not wrapped
  846. properly in your E-Mail I've included the same text as a file attachment.
  847.
  848. Regards,
  849.
  850. James
  851.
  852.
  853. NME March 1995
  854.
  855. THIS YEAR'S YODEL
  856.
  857.
  858. "I was raving before the word was invented," boasts Yello's 50-year-old and
  859. ridiculously rich figurehead Dieter Meier, brimming with amiable
  860. eccentricity.
  861.
  862. "I've always been a slave to the rhythm," our immaculately dressed host
  863. continues, "and tonight is our way of  thanking these young producers for
  864. the wonderful things they've done to our music."
  865.
  866. It's one of those shindigs where if the roof caved in, half of dance
  867. music's most happening figures would go down with it. A night in Zurich's
  868. Kaufleuten club, where a quirky twist of fate in club culture's past,
  869. present and future is being spectacularly and vociferously celebrated.
  870.
  871. Despite concerned efforts from DJ Westbam's neogabba patterns and Isla
  872. Gold's nutcore live noise, the ceiling stands its ground while the likes of
  873. Carl Craig, Carl Cox, Oliver Lieb and The Orb's Alex Paterson and Thomas
  874. Felhmann indulge in a raucous bid to drink the town dry of champers. The
  875. launch bash for 'Hands of Yello' - the pioneering Swiss duo's remix LP - is
  876. in full throttle.
  877.
  878. The sound of Dieter Meier and Boris Blank's prodigious 18-year output lent
  879. to the best of the current club/chill-out generation, ' Hands on Yello'
  880. bears qualities extending well beyond the usual nature of this kind of
  881. project - compared to the mixes they've been subjected to in the past (by
  882. Andrew Weatherall, for instance) this is far superior stuff, Dieter
  883. enthuses.
  884.
  885. "It felt strange messing about with something that's already perfect,"
  886. admits Carl Cox, before delivering the evenings mightiest DJ set to a volley
  887. of well-earned applause. "But it's great to work with
  888. music that's got substance, feeling and emotion. Charismatic, interesting
  889. and mad that's Yello! We're paying tribute to them. Even my mum likes them.
  890. They've worked with Shirley Bassey, what else can you say?"
  891.
  892. "I blame it on the elephants," adds Alex Paterson, somewhat cryptically.
  893. Later he mixes up reggae, electro and abstract beats, confusing the
  894. house-hungry crowd while glaring peevishly at the club's red boiler-suited
  895. pseudo-erotic dance troupe.
  896.
  897. "If this was a Mike Oldfield project," the Orbmeister continues, "we'd have
  898. stripped away everything and just left one of his annoying little loops. But
  899. this was different. Anyone who's ever dropped an LSD tab will understand me
  900. when I say the Orb's ambience and humour is in equilibrium with Yello's - it
  901. only ever goes up its own bottom, never anyone else's."
  902.
  903. "There's a sexual feel to their music," Carl Craig decides. "There's
  904. nothing mechanical about it - it's got the funk and the flavour. Derrick
  905. May, Kevin Saunderson, Juan Watkins and myself, we're all die-hard fans of
  906. their weird sense of comedy."
  907.
  908. After the backslapping and adulation, there's much frenzied partying to be
  909. done. Oliver Lieb plays live, kicking off seductively in rampant tribal
  910. zones before descending into a dingy pit of ruthless stomping and savage
  911. riffing. Blimey, aren't Dieter and Boris a bit old for all this?
  912.
  913. "At least in their heads they're still party animals," reckons Craig.
  914. "Maybe if they have a nap half way through they'll last to when I'm on."
  915.
  916. "You're only old when you can no longer make a fool of yourself and act
  917. like a little idiot," laughs wild-eyed Dieter in retort, "I'm proud to say
  918. I'm still a very childish man."
  919.
  920. Carl Craig comes on very late, a little anxious that his subtle funk sounds
  921. will go over the audience's collective head after so much turbo charged Euro
  922. vinyl. He needn't have worried - he spins
  923. 'French Kiss' and 'I feel Love' alongside deep disco-ish Detroit techno to a
  924. suitably enthralled audience showing.
  925.
  926. Poor old Dieter on the other hand is looking well weary. It's past his
  927. bedtime and he's off. Not, however, before dishing out some advice to the
  928. techno whippersnappers he's befriended today.
  929.
  930. "We're bombastic sound jugglers who emerged from the splendid isolation of
  931. Switzerland. If we can do it, anyone can" he proclaims.  "Like us, these
  932. guys have to bang against the door and gain entry to the cave of holy
  933. creation. My advice is never stop: just keep on banging."

  1662.
1663. I recently obtained Carlos Peron's "Lead Into Gold" album and really loved it!
1664. Unfortunately I have never, ever run across any other of his works.

1981. I have already poste my version of the lyrics to Daniel, but as they differ
1982. a little bit from Johns and Michael I thought I should post them on the list

2590. OK. Now on to my subject line.
2591. I remember quite vividly an ad for a bank in the UK (I think it was Lloyds)
2592. and they used "Sweet Thunder" from 'Baby'.
2593. It showed a river bank somewhere in the Sudan or similar. The amazing
2594. image that I can't forget is that the camera panned down the river bank
2595. showing cattle drinking and local people washing and swimming in the
2596. river. But without the picture cutting, the same cattle and people appeared
2597. again..... and again.... it was stunning, especially with the haunting
2598. music of Sweet Thunder. Any other UK fans remember it!

3187. "Musky" actually it is instrumental version of Yello's "Magnetic".
3188. If we are straigt "Magnetic" is Carl Cox "Musky" with words!
  3189.
3190. In sleeve reads... all tracks _written_, produced, arranged and recorded

3197. Yello except "Magnetic" produced by Boris Blank and Carl Cox
  3198.
3199. What this all means? Is it so that "PU" tracks don't are all Yello's
3200. (written by Boris), because there no mention who is written those

3335. Magnetic/Musky was produced by Boris and Carl Cox.
3336. Carl med Boris , when he was making the L'hotel remix for the "Hans On
  3337. Yello" CD
3338. There they decided to produce a song together.
3339. Boris added Dieters voice later and released the track on PU called "Magnetic".
3340. But also Carl had the copyright on that track. He released the track in the
