Subject: (yello) Vinyl to CD question
Date: 01 Aug 1998 22:11:20 -0600
Hi
I am a YELLO fan and a (long time) subscriber to the digest.
Some time ago (before my hard drive crash) there was a thread of discussion
about various CD writers and associated software required to transfer vinyl
to CD. I (also) agreed at the time that this thread of conversation needed
to move elsewhere as it really had no 'Yello' content. I am, however, glad
that this discussion took place in the Yello Digest, as it is the only news
group that I read. I am now wanting to transfer some of my vinyl collection
to CD and would be grateful for some advise by some of the participants in
this group who obviously 'know the business'.
Would you please respond directly via e-mail if you are able to give me some
advise as to what kind of computer equipment to access in order to produce
high quality copies.
I have no favorite Yello song. To have more liking for one song, one must
have less liking for another - this might work with other bands, but not
with Yello. Yello is not this or that - Yello just "IS", and "ISNESS" is to
be enjoyed - period.
(gee, maybe I should move this to the philosophy section <grin>).
Best regards to all!
Love and Light,
Fred Schreiner

Popped the Mix In One Go CD into my player for the first time in
months last week. This is one great CD, however, with the advances in
remastering, this is one that really needs a clean up! It would be
killer if remastered. Anyone agree?
On a non-Yello note, welcome back to Front 242! 242 have just
released a live album from earlier this year that is just awesome! If
you didn't know 242 have been sidelined for the past 3 years or so due
to legal difficulties over the use of their name.

Hi all,
I just got the Depeche Mode tribute album with coverversions of some of
their songs. A great album, but when I heard it, I started wondering...
Are any of you familiar with any Yello coverversions? I know there is Hands
on... But apart from that. Any accustic versions?
Well anyway, it was just a thought, it could be great to hear somone like
Tom Petty or Rammstein doing a cover of Night Train, couldn't it?
PS.

Subject: (yello) Yello-FTP
Date: 07 Aug 1998 15:33:12 +0200
Hoi Everyone!
Just wanted to give you all a small notification in advance that I'm
working on a new Yello FTP-site. I for one was quite disappointed
when the old one ceased to exist and probably more of you felt that
way. Now a new (slightly different) Yello FTP-site will arise. I can't
be sure about how long it'll take before it's up, because I'm
encountering some difficulties with my computer (as always).
I plan to reserve about 100 mb of space for this site (maybe I can
spare more, but I'm also running another FTP-site and work with
harddisk recording, so I need to expand my hd badly). There will be
two sections to the site, an upload part and an archive part. I
thought it would be a good idea to mainly limit the actions to the
rare Yello-tracks (but anything can happen where deliberation is a
part of life). Probably 100 mb will not be enough to carry everything
I'ld like to place on the site, but I've got very powerfull friends who
own cd-writers (and who have gained lots of friends since) so I will
burn everything on cd-rom. A list with all the Yello-files I have will
be placed on the site aswell, so that if you want anything, you can
ICQ or email me a request and I'll place it on the site as soon as
possible.
The service of the site will only be made available to members of
the Yello-list.
I have my computer at home, so the site will not be online all day,
but because I don't have to pay any phonecosts, it'll be up most of
the day (especially from monday to friday (european callendar)). So
all of you must be able to reach me at one time or another
(although there are some people that joined my other site who
complain they never catch me online). Whenever I'm online on ICQ,
my site will be online too (mostly). My ICQ # is 3647659
(SunSinner).
I have a T1-connection and limit my users, so with a bit of luck, it'll
be fast all the time.
In some time I hope to have my cd-rom-player repaired and be able
to give a green signal to all of you.
All the information you need to know to get on my site will be
handed to you then also.
If anyone has any questions or suggestions, you can reply to this
mail, or look me up at ICQ.
Groeven,
Olaf.

Date: 10 Aug 1998 00:07:55 +0300
Hi there!
I don't remember if anyone has written about this, so...
While going through the latest issue of the Top mag
(Tower Records Free version :) I saw the following in the Books section:
The Glamour Chase - The Maverick Life of Billy Mackenzie by Tom Doyle
(Bloomsbury Press, 12.99 pounds)
"As Doyle points out, in relating the life of any artist who suffers a
tragically
early death, the plot draws inexorably to its own sad conclusion.
It is indeed a cautionary tale of a unique talent and a charming, feckless
man whose refusal to play the corporate game sealed his inevitable demise
into obscurity.
A well balanced book, Doyle is neither an obsessed fan out to right
his hero's injustices or a purveyor of salacious gossip but a realist.
Something Mckenzie could never be accused of."
Has anyone seen/read the book?

Subject: (yello) FTP slow start
Date: 10 Aug 1998 14:40:46 +0200
Hoi!
My cd-rom drive's still down.
I'm trying to locate the problem, but that can take a while because
I'm currently plaged by exams (and 'coincidently' the sun (finaly)
began shining on exactly the same day as I started studying).
I decided to open the site already though. Not in the least because
I got some messages from people that are able to upload some
new tracks (seen from the old sites point of view).
So here's all the info you need:
IP: 132.229.149.134
L : Yello
P : SunSinner
all other settings are standard
This information is case-sensitive, so don't forget the capitals...
Important:
- Just like the old one, this site is NOT here to provide a cheap way
to collect music by Yello. If by chance there's anything on it that
can still be found in the stores, go out and buy it (as if I should
have to tell that to a true Yello fan...).
- Next to that this service is only meant for members of the Yello
list. So don't spread around the account-information I've given you.
If anyone wants this music badly, they should be a member of the
list anyway.
- If you upload a track, please send some information on the track
(title and subtitle, source (cd-title for example, maybe even a
number), the name of the person who remixed it (if it's a remix)
and anything you think is important or fun to know) along with it
(txt-file))
I'll try to write some directions for usage of the site. But I can't be
sure as to when I'll finish it.
When done, I'll place it on the site.
So we're off to a slow start, but at least we started...
Groeven,
Olaf.

In order to get the zip file I had to ftp to site. The zip file is there
but the link is incorrect. The soundbank is made as early as 1995/96.
Would somebody extract the sounds to individual wav files?

Hoi!
My cd-rom's still in the intensive care. No prognoses on it's
recovery yet...
But there've been some uploads to the site, so it's not empty
anymore!
I'm forced to put a limit to the amount of users that can be logged
on simultaneously. For a few weeks I've been experimenting with
10 users at a time, but it really really sucks the life out of my
machine. So in the future the Yello-site will be able to handle 3
logons at the same time (as will my other site). So if you
download, please try one track at a time to give other Yello-freaks
a chance too (for uploads you may logon as many times as
possible, because those are in the best interests of all the list
members).
I'm trying to figure out a schedule to run my site, so it'll be a bit
more easy to let you know when it's available. This because I got
some mails by people who are unable to run ICQ and wanted to
know when my site would be up mostly.
To try and answer that question the only thing I can say right now
is that the biggest chance to reach my site will be between 13:00
and 03:00 (Central European Time). But... don't pin me down on it...
The easiest way is still to watch out for my appearence on ICQ.
That's it for now...
Groeven,
Olaf.
Because rain is forcing me to stay inside today...

Boris didn't have the CD Singles Box set (1989)
and he told me he'd like to have it (he has the
12" Collection box though). If YOU have it for
sale, please mail me privately. Thank you. JW

I'm kinda new to the list, is it always such empty??? 3 letters per
week???
Ok, I've got a question. I've found "Oh Yeah" in some mix and I'd like
to know which mix it is. It's 5:37 long and it sounds like normal "Oh
Yeah" extended. Is it an edit of dance mix?

Well, I think it might be the
Oh Yeah (indian summer music) with a length of 5:30 or
Oh Yeah (dance mix - edit) with a length of 5:13
Tho only version that fits to the time is:
Oh Yeah (plutone's hands on yello) 5:38
But this remix is definitely different to the normal version.
It might be easier for me, if you know the number and label of the CD or vinyl

Hoi!
If you logged on to the FTP-server and quit your activities, please
log off. Some programs will keep connecting if you don't quit them
propperly or deactivate when you're done.
For the other users it means just another lost space (especially
anoying now with a max of 3 users).
Thanks in advance...
Groeven,
Olaf.
Because it takes time to make things work.

Hoi!
Someone uploaded part of a track called 'Tool In Rose' to the FTP-
site. Is that really a Yello-track and if so, what's the story on it?
Groeven,
Olaf.
Because I probably have to buy a new cd-rom player...

Yes, it's the B-side to "The Rhythm Divine".

Yeah -- where the dance mix starts off with the auto racing sounds, "indian
summer music" starts off with the beat rising out of a huge wave of synthwash.
Has some birdsong, a more ethereal background, etc. It's almost like a dub
version . . . !
