When I first heard them, I was a bit disappointed actually. They have grown
on me a little since then, but they are not up the the standard of Yello
yet, IMHO. Perhaps they will improve with time. I just don't think their
music has the character or personality that Boris and Dieter can generate.
Its a pretty tough comparison though.
Craig.

Hello friends,
just wanted to know how any of the other Aussies are going trying to get
their hands on the new music.
Has anyone had any luck at a record store?
I placed an order this morning for the Squeeze Please single. Should be
here in a couple of weeks, but I am never too sure whether or not to trust
them. This was at HMV here in Brisbane by the way. They didn't have Motion
Picture on their list yet, but if they manage to get the single in, they
should eventually be able to get the full cd in.
Rocking Horse Records in the city didn't know anything about it. (But I did
manage to pick up Stellar Supreme, by Cosmic Baby, which I had been
searching for for 3 years, so the trip wasn't wasted. Great album).
Regards,
Craig.

Hiya Craig.
I haven't tried myself yet, but "Rockaway Records" at Paddington (107
Latrobe Tce) may be of some help. I've used them in the past, and they've
seemed to come through with the good most of the time.
Let me know if you have any luck.

For a long time, I've seen little extensions on the end of record company
names on the back of my favorite CD's :
(ex: London Records "Ltd."; "Inc." ; etc.)
I know where most of these are from, but can someone tell me what the
follwing extensions actually mean ? :
"GmBh" (Germany)
"Pty." (Australia ?)
"Pte." (Asia ?)
"NV" (Belgium ?)
"BV" (Netherlands ?)
"KK" (Japan)
"S.A." (France ?)
"Srl" (Italy)
I was just curious, as this is something that has been puzzling me for a
long time. :-)

will send a report tomorrow. I assume this message comes from my

Date: 04 Nov 1999 13:49:00 +0100
Hi,
I watched the Harald Schmidt Show on German TV SAT1 yesterday evening.
Dieter Meier appeared as a guest. He talked with Harald for about 5 minutes.
Dieter appeared very relaxed and self-assured. Harald Schmidt tried to do
jokes about the Swiss tardiness, but Dieter did not follow this jokes.
Example: when they came to Dieter's daughter's favourite music style techno,
Harald said: Techno goes like boom-boom-boom-boom-boom, in Switzerland it's
more like booom - booom - booom - booom
- Dieter gave a short review of his activities: 1st single was 'cry for
fame' on Peripheric Perfume
- Appeared in Swiss magazine 'Life & Style'; Harald showed two pages with
four homes of Dieter; Dieter said, that he is not the owner of all 4 homes;
he considers them as garages for his projects
- Dieter is still working on movie now named 'lightmaker'. Funny thing is,
that as the production lasts over 10 years now, the actors also get older;
now he is creating the soundtrack for the movie
- Dieter is the father of 4 childresn, the eldest one is a 15 year old
daughter. She likes Techno
- When he started with yello, they thought of beeing 'verwurzelte
provinzielle Dilletanten'. [Maybe somebody has an idea how to translate
this]. They never had plans to become famous or even trendsetters for music.
I did some screenshots from my TV, the quality is not so good, but I think,
you can get an impression. Please check out

Very boring subject but:
Pty Ltd means Proprietary Limited - that is, only specific people can buy
shares in the company. It is a private company and is not listed on the
stock exchange.
Companies that are just 'Ltd' (limited) are listed on the stock exchange.
"Limited" means that if the company goes bust, then the shareholders are
not personally liable to pay the debts of the company. The most they have
to pay is any amount they still owe on shares they are holding.
Now, back to Yello...

But I did play "Houdini" last Friday night when I was dj'ing. It sounded
really great, and dancing people didn't seem to mind too much this
stranger track (compared to the hit parade prior to Houdini). "Get On" is
also a very good track.
Btw, are there many dj's on this list? I am by no means a pro, djing is
merely a dear hobby for me. But I do get paid most of the times I play, so
I guess I am a semi-pro dj. Or something. I can't even beat-mix that good
or do any other cool tricks, though.
And I would also like to hear what the dj's say when you haunt them with
your wishes for Yello. I usually get replys like "Don't have any with me
right now" or "I just might have 'The Race' on some of my compilations".

All I can say is thank god for the internet, otherwise I'd be oblivious to
both the question and answer. Yesterday was a wonderful day, an excellent
Jane Siberry concert and "Motion Picture" arriving through my letterbox. It's
a sad reflection on a country that has always considered itself some kind of
epicentre for "pop" music that this CD is not even being released here.
So I've managed to give it six or seven listenings (I recorded it onto
minidisc last night so I could listen to it cycling into work) and yet again
Yello fail to disappoint, they're just streets ahead of anyone else working
in this field (with the exception of Kraftwerk, though Mouse on Mars and To
Rococo Rot increasingly bode well for the future).
Favourite Track ? - well yes "Houdini" is very good. I do have a penchant for
"Shake and Shiver" and "Point Blank" but the whole CD is wonderful.
I used to DJ years ago, at all nighters at the Scala Cinema here in London. I
would always play Yello. I go to clubs very rarely now and most of the places
in London its not exactly de rigueur to make requests. Still a place that
likes to think of itself as so hip can't remain in ignorance of music of this
quality for much longer......... can it ??

Track 2 is very good. Sorry, Yello website thinks Lynx is not a good enough
at viewing text parts of the Motion Picture pages. That is, can't get the
track titles. (Lynx is able to view text but frames too! I simply don't
understand webmakers why they even bother to write texts like "Sorry. Only
with Frames here." --- tell me at least one webbrowser which cannot show
frames! It is not the Lynx.)
Your suggestion "get on", turns out to be too repeative in this contest
but I always listen to it first! Heh, it is good as well.
"Shake and shiver" must be my second favourite. "Point Blank" has great
sounds and great mode. I think Point Blank borrowed one rhythm melody
from Tremendous Pain/Hell Mix -- check it out! (Anyone has Hell Mix
as mp3 or such?)
Track 4 and the last track are my least favourites even I don't skip them.

Juhana

Hello everyone !!!! :-)
As I have one week left before I leave for the black pit of despair which is
Basic Military Training (lol), I just wanted to give an early goodbye to
everyone on all four of my favorite lists.
You have all been very fun and interesting people to chat with, teaching me
many valuable things regarding the love of music and technology. I will
definitely miss all of the silly flame wars and annoying post questions that
had been mentioned fifty million times before (;-) . It felt damn good to be
part of four groups of individuals who respect the masters of the music game
the same way that I do.
I don't know for sure when I'll be back online; maybe within the next three
to six months. I really have no idea what the fuck the future holds, but so
far I see plenty of recording, traveling, and meeting lots of new people. If
I get to be stationed in Germany, I might plan on bringing some friends over
to see Kraftwerk at Expo 2000.
Anyways, I want to keep it short and sweet, so let me just say that I love
all you guys and that I will miss you all very much from the bottom of my
heart.
God Bless all of you forever. :-)

PU and this album have really good sounds. For some reason Zebra
is most popular CD here. I know Zebra was blamed at the time but
it is not that bad. My wife said the new album is a bit slack
compared to Zebra when I played Zebra to get change from MP.
All Yello albums have had been good but I always get ideas on what
the next album should have differently!
I just love those sweeping vocal morph (whatever) sounds on MP.
Zebra has them at least in Move Dance Be Born, PU has them, and now
MP. Boris mentioned Supernova and Nord Lead synths in the recent chat
but I'm not sure if they do the thing. Anyone?
By the way, I downloaded immediately manuals for both of them. Check
www.novationusa.com and www.clavia.se. Even if you have some other
modular synth or softsynth such as Csound, you could pick up a few
thousand Nord Modular patches --- the file format seems to be plain
ascii and it is documented. But anyone know how those vocal morphs
actually works? Weblinks would be nice too.
Yours,
Juhana

I was reading a book called The Complete Cross-Referenced Guide to the Baby
Buster Generation's Collective Unconscious that claims they are "A
Dictionary of Cultural Literacy for Humans who grew up in the '80s" by Glenn
Gaslin and Rick Porter. (A very long title for a book!) I thought they had
something interesting to say about our favorite group, Yello.
I quote:
Yello
Rare is the person who owns any album by this music group. Rarer still is
the person who doesn't recognize the mechanized, guttural "Oh yeah" and
"Chk, chka-chkk-aahh" from it's one known song, featured in Ferris Bueller's
Day Off, The Secret of My Success, Twix commercials, and uncountable
sporting events. See also Bueller, Ferris
So I looked up the see also reference
Quote:
Bueller, Ferris
A hero. See also Hughes, John
They didn't even put a photo of Boris and Dieter next to the entry and do
you really think of Yello's music and mechanized and guttural? I can see
some of the music of Yello as mechanized or guttural but I got the
impression that the authors didn't really give Yello a chance.
IMHO.
At least they got Ferris Bueller right.

Well... some people might have heard the track "The Race" as well, don't you
think? Sporting events, commercials, movies... :) Don't know who wrote this,
but I'm not quite sure his local copy of "Collective Unconscious" is totally
up to date
Tracks from "Motion Pictures" are already being used as background music on
a popular morning show on the biggest local radio here in Norway. And I just
stopped by a new documentary (or something) on the TV with tracks from
"Baby" as music throughout the program.
And... wow(!)... Yello's great album "Motion Picture" is this weeks fastest
climbing in the official charts for Norway. Up from 39 to 21 since last
week. Interesting to see more people are getting it. There's also a comment
regarding Yello, I'll post it later...

The fact that these same people refer to the character of Ferris Bueller as a
"hero" , speaks volumes to me of the likely validity of any of their opinions.
I once had the misfortune to see this film and found the central character to
be a nauseating little prick, not surprisingly I walked out after 15 minutes
annoyed that I had wasted my money and time on such unadulterated rubbish.
One day Yello's music will find it's way onto the soundtrack of a film that's
actually worthwhile.....

Well, I apologize if this topic bored some of you out there the first time
it was mentioned, but that's what you have delete buttons for.
;-P
Anyways, as I had talked about before, I had waged the war in my head about
converting to Mac over PC (especially in regards to music making).
Although I will keep my PC for now, it will definitely go in the closet once
I get my hands on my new Mac system soon.
But there's just one problem. :-0
I originally said that I would start saving up for a G4 tower, but now the
new iMac DV systems have really caught my attention.
The new iMac DV's have now inlcuded all of the features that I originally
wanted in the first editions :
350 or 400 G3 Processors
100 Mhz System Bus
64 or 128 MB RAM
2 Fire Wire Ports
6, 10, 0R 13GB Ultra ATA Drives
8 MB Video RAM
ATI Rage 128 Card (2x AGP)
4x DVD-ROM
Harmon Kardon speakers
iMovie video software
Plus, I've always wanted to get into video editing. I've been thinking of
building a site to house all of my rare Art Of Noise footage on, but I don't
have a video capture device.
So now the debate is, which one should I buy ?
To paraphrase a statement made by Apple, they said that you would only need
a G4 over an iMac if you needed a bigger monitor
(??? Monitors are sold separately from the G4 towers), needed PCI expansion,
or if you needed more than a maximum of 512 MB of RAM.
Surely that'a a faulty statement.
I like the iMac because it's truly plug-and-play, and everything is so
compact and easily accessible (ever have to change an audio cable from the
back of a large tower case ? It's quite a bitch when you have little room to
move around !!!!).
Plus, I love the flavors (hey, when will we see a Lemon model ?)
:-)
But I want the G4 for its brute-strength processing.
Either way, both models will be faster than the newest Pentiums (according
to Apple's tests LOL) .
So what do you Mac Addicts think ? : New iMac, or new G4 ?
BTW : I know that there are USB MIDI boxes available for the Mac, but are
there any full-fledged USB audio cards/boxes out there ? I know that Roland
and Edirol released their UA-100 Audio Canvas, but its interface software is
specifically for PC. I really want to start doing 24-bit recording.
Thanks again for putting up with my long-ass posts.

To give you insight on whether you'll be better off with a PC vs. a G4 will
depend on how much you "work" system. I use both platforms and both operate
differently depending on what you use them for.
The PC will generally work fine, and has the most video/capture/edit software
titles available, and may be the way to go if you have little money to
invest. However, Windows is notoriously famous for freezing up on you, and
you'll need to run NT on the PC if you expect to work non-stop without
interruptions. The G4 is designed to be a clydesdale/quarterhorse
combo-speed, and a bulletproof operating system. Apple is great (although not
yet as cheap as PCs) for video, and IMHO, the quality is superior, and the
processors are more efficient.
It'll be a big decision for you especially if you intend to dump a lot of $$$
into your set up. My advice would be to talk to a few video pros in the
industry who use each system to help you decide what's best for you. They'll
know what works, and what doesn't.

Oh I despair! I keep reading all this "what's your favourite track" stuff

Nice that Yello get played in a club at all! They are completely dancable to
my mind (and I've been quite a keen clubber in my time) and yet they don't
get played. I believe this is because they have "too much" personality in
their music, which leads DJs too consider them a commercial/pop act. If only
their music was completely instrumental and nondescript eh? (Ha!)

Where I go it just isn't done, and they wouldn't have any anyway. The last
time I got to dance to Yello was early on one night and it was a mix of
Jungle Bill. It didn't exactly fill the floor though.

Very nicely put! If Yello were 30 years younger with one fifth of their
brains, one hundreth of their talent and one thousandth of their taste they
could form a boy band and prance around miming to someone elses songs or do
the old sit on a stool wearing polo neck sweaters singing painfully sincere
songs that your grandmother would like bit. It makes me so mad - mad enough

Well, not exactly, but here is what the biggest Norwegian newspaper comments
to Yello being this weeks fastest climbing album on the national charts -
directly translated from Norwegian:
"Old men must not be underestimated! Dieter Meyer and Boris Blank in swiss
Yello still attracts people/buyers with their ("cinematic"? "movielike"?)
kind of music. Not at all unfair, when knowing Yello was far ahead of their
time for a lot of years."
Hmm... This newspaper definitely thinks Yello is not ahead anymore. That
they are getting old is harder to argue with :) But who cares really, when
they still make music like "Point Blank" and "Prisoner of his mind"?
Excellent album!

Subject: (yello) My opinion: Motion Picture
Date: 12 Nov 1999 10:30:49 -0600
Well, I've heard the album... initial impression: what are they smoking?
They need to stop.
I really do not like the new album very much.
I own a lot of Yello, I was one of the very few that liked Pocket Universe
and Zebra tremendously. I think these two albums are their strongest works
followed closely by Baby.
Now, let me sum up the good points about Motion Picture:
The following tracks are okay (in my order, best to weakest): Point Blank,
Get On, Squeeze Please, Houdini
As for the rest... they are perhaps the weakest Yello tunes I've ever heard.
I am not happy with this new album at all. In past experience, I was happy
with every new album that came along immediately. Now, as a fairly die hard
fan, I will continue to listen to this new album and hope I will "see the
light" eventually, since I feel as if I *must* like it basically because
it's Yello.
I have not received my fix. :P

Hey, grow up! Stop posting non-yello articles to Yello list.
Simply: don't crosspost!
Also, your article generates more noise to lists if more people
start replying to your articles. And certainly annoy people who are in
several of those mailing list and have to see your postings multiple
times.

Sure you are!
I'm also interested in Kraftwerk but I think we should respect the charter
of the mailing list and not post non-Yello mails here. It is ok if we
compare Yello and Kraftwerk or such (see the recent article series
on what else music Yello fans listens to). But that Kraftwerk announce
had nothing to do with Yello, period.
I'm sure there are more glueless people like you who don't mind
crossposting and charters, but you all can grow up to respect other readers!
If my tone is rather unrespective, it is only because you're just looking

I'm interested in Kraftwerk and I'm interested in audio software/hardware,
but we should take them elsewhere.

Well, yes -- I would say that I do like techno sound. But I love "Baby" all
the same. Baby is incredible! Full, clean acoustic sound. That's why it
ranks in my top three Yello albums.
I would say that of the three I mentioned, they are my favourite in this
order: Zebra, Pocket Universe, and Baby. But don't misunderstand, all three
of these are nearly equal in my book and all get nearly equal playing time
(with Zebra edging out slightly). Zebra has to be the best album ever, in my
opinion. Night Train is simple fabulous!
I really enjoyed Pocket Universe's experiemental/conceptual feel. It was
really original, cutting edge stuff. It still is very, very unique even two
and a half years later.
But Motion Picture isn't really all that ground breaking. When I listen to
Yello albums, each one progresses. Motion Picture is the first album that
doesn't seem to really go anywhere. It's more of a rehash or "fresh look" at
older concepts and older sounds. This is what disappointed me. I was
expecting something "all new". While the songs themselves are new, the sound
they provide isn't necessarily.
Just my nine cents of commentary in this one dime world.

Good point but...
Yello has always recyled their sounds. I hear sounds and musical phrases in
Pocet U that date back to Claro Que Si.
This album is new to me. It's much jazzier and housier than ever before.
Night train is one of my very favorites too.
Well just my thoughts are Yello always sounds like Yello. No matter what. I
always hear sounds though out the entire album spetrum that are borrowed from
each other.

I wasn't aware we had a 'charter' here. And I'm sorry to hear that
some people on this list are so focused that they can't bear to see
anything besmirching the purity of the Yello content on this list.
Crossposting of junk is a pain, true, but we need to get things in
perspective here...we're talking about Kraftwerk, here. This news
should be on the main national news broadxast, never mind the Yello
list.
I've grown tired of the authoritarian introspectivity of this list
over the last year, and I only stay tuned for news of the band. I
doubt whether Yello live in their own little world where people
aren't allowed to talk about anything other than the one subject
which brought them together - Yello music. They'd probably be pretty
disparaging of such a rule/charter-dominated fan list. They are
artists...they experiment and draw influences from around them. They
have their ears and eyes open to what's going on in the world. That's
how they make such great music. It's a pity this list is dominated by
such a parochial attitude.

It's only you who seem to have been disturbed, Juhana...or do you

I don't want to upset anyone here, but I don't regard Kraftwerk as
too off-topic to mention once! Now, if you all start to speculate on
the state of the US financial system or whether the British monarchy
has a place in society then I think we'd be right to draw the line.
But Kraftwerk?
I'll decide what I'm interested in and what I'm not and I'll do any
censoring that needs to be done here at my PC rather than ask
everyone else to censor themselves before they post to the list.

Date: 18 Nov 1999 17:34:59 +0300
Well, finally i got Motion Picture. Here is my opinion about this album.
First of all, this album is GREAT, as other Yello albums. Motion Picture
proves another time that Boris never repeats himself. I don't know why do
some of you think that this album sounds like 80s' albums. I didn't notice
anything which would be comparable to Flag, One Second and other albums. The
only exception is Squeeze Please (this is the reason why this composition is
more a hit than any others). Of course, there is something reminding old
times. It's maybe more complicated structure of sounds than in Pocked
Universe. It can remind 80s. But the kind of sounds totally changed. It's
more "new" than "old" Yello. But it's STILL Yello. The music became less
melodic and less ironic, if you know what i mean. But it became cooler and
more rhythmic. This is the great music for dance. Listening to this album,
it's impossible not to move a body. For anyone who loves Yello, this album
is perfect. One of the most attractive traits of Yello is that you never
know what kind of music they will produce the next time. You always expect
something new and surprising. And finally you get it. Motion Picture is very
good confirmation of it!
Best,
Olga

Yello there
At last I have been sent by a very kind person a recording of "Motion
Picture". Naughty, yes, but when it (eventually??) gets released in UK I
faithfully promise to get the CD so Dieter can buy some golf tees or
something.
Anyway... after initial hmmm? Oh yeah? and ahhh... I gotta say YES! First
impression was that it was a little samey, at least mood-wise. Not one
quarter as "wacky" and absurdist as some of their other albums, but for me
that's a good thing as I always preferred their classy side; Lost Again, not
Bananas To The Beat etc. The beats are fairly non-pacey. I'd heard people
saying it was a return to the Yello of old but I disagree. Only the single
sounds like old stuff and to my mind it's the worse track on the album! I'm
glad they have delved into the slinkier, deeper side of techno rather than
slamming up the BMPs as they did with tracks like Resistor (too
undignified!) Actually tracks like "Houdini" remind me of Fluke (though
Fluke pinched Yello's style first of course). A big difference on this album
is Boris's (slightly disappointing) use of fairly generic techno-ish sounds.
This is evident on Distant Mirror though then again this is one of my
favourites tracks. I love "Point Blank"! Very classy indeed and it really
moves along and creates one of those famous "sound-pictures", as does the
incredible "Cyclops". Despite the rather inappropriate image of a giant
mythical one-eyed monster, this is music to shake the end of the 20th
century! Someone said that they wish Yello's music could appear in something
other than crappy films. Indeed. Tracks like this one and "Sweet Thunder"
are crying out to be soundtracks for something suitably epic. All in all MP,
like PU, shines when Yello look forward and not back.

Blank on DRS3, a Swiss radiochannel. In the radioshow Kosmos from 17:00 to

Hi!
Couldn't agree more - you sum up my thoughts about the album completely.
There are a few tracks that remind me of Fluke's "Techno Rose Of Blighty",
and some of the vocals from the "Oto" album, and I still think (after
several listens) Squeeze Please is the worst track on the album. When I
heard it for the first time, my thought was "NO!! Boris, you're too
talented to put out another wacky latino-dance-trombone-thing that sounds
not quite like "The Race" ... and it did take me a few listens to "get" the
album proper.
But on the whole it is a very good album ... probably not as good as PU, but
you can't have everything. But it's still better than "Baby" and "Zebra"
which in my mind are still the two most disappointing albums although there
are a couple of fabulous moments and tracks on both of these ... and it was
nice to seem them getting darker again after the frivolous "Baby".
Favourite track on the album at the moment: "Croissant Bleu". Going through
a rather French phase at the moment ... probably listening to Air's "Moon
Safari", and Laila France's "Orgonon" too much ... or is it the cheese? ...
:)
Old Dieter really should do more vocals in French ... he sounds really cool,
very sophisticated ... although maybe if he did we wouldn't get new words in
the English language like "uniwerse" (see "Domingo") ... which would be a
pity.
Best regards
Schtick

Just a quick defence of this track, it was the first I heard as while I was
waiting for my copy of MP to arrive from mainland Europe, I downloaded the
video from the MTV site. At first I didn't like it, I thought they were just
retreading old ground...... but now I actually like it a great deal.
It's interesting however to hear how other people's opinions differ though.
"Baby" is just about my favourite Yello album apart from "Stella" and a
measure of how much I now like "MP" is that I'd say it's their best album
since "Baby". I think Air sound like elevator music to be frank........ but I
do like the Laila France album (though I've always been a big Momus fan
anyway).

Interesting how there seem to be two camps of thought where Baby & Zebra are
concerned. My thoughts concerning these two releases for years has been that
Boris needs an outside producer. Sort of an, "All work and no play makes Jack
a dull boy" thing.
I too went through a period of closet disappointment the first few listens
then had the songs grow on me. I have always regarded jazz as sort of pompous
and snooty but decided the jazzy parts were thoughtful and not without a
sense of humor.
The "Babylon" track stands out musically though some of the rhymes make me
uncomfortable. Trite? Mundane? not sure-rarely do lyrics affect me but they
just seem awkward. That Blender song on Baby was a good example of the same
sentiment.
I like the croissant song too. Is it about food? Hope not.

From my wife's reactions (she's a fluent French speaker), it couldn't
be anything other than Swiss French (quite a thick accent), and it's
fairly idiomatic.

FWIW I think Baby is one of Yello's best, but was rather disappointed with Zebra.
Where does that put me? I wasn't sure about MP at first, but it's growing on me.
That's a fairly sure sign that it will become a firm favourite.

My French is fairly awful, but parts of the lyrics are along the lines of "When I am
with you, I am in fear, just a little." More or less :)

I sent off a message yesterday to find out what's going on. I received a
message saying if I ordered the Friday before it released it would be
dispatched on the Monday. I cant tell you I am somewhat disappointed. I did
receive excetrix remixes this week from cduniverse, and am very impressed
with yello's effort there.

Yep. I too get the same feeling about that Squeeze Please track.
It is different from the rest. I would like to hear if there is some
good reason for it -- is it made much earlier than other tracks?
Or were it added after hearing that there is a similar song (with respect
to mambo rhythm, whatever) at top ten quite recently?

He uses them pretty well. He seem to use the same composition methods
than used with Temendeous Pain (Bible Mix etc.) but this time he got
the technique more transparent. But I'm not expert on these...
I miss more occasional sound effects. Some female voices as addition
to Dieter's voice. Well, these could be considered as wishes for the
next album!

I'm french and I can say it's some collegian french words badly translated,
no more sophisticated !!! Sad that Dieter doesn't worked anymore on this
song, it could be nicer I think and music is nice behind ! I'll do a
translation of the song soon

I think this song is a distant 'relation' of "Otto di Catania". There I
remember him saying that the vocal line was pretty much done in one take and
of course that his Italian was by no means perfect. I would imagine therefore
that the same applies with "Croissant Bleu" and that he would argue that if
he'd tried to perfect his French the performance itself would have lost
something in the process.
Monolingual English speakers like myself would struggle to tell the
difference anyway :)

Hi Cliff. Well, I'm experiencing a similar situation with my order for MP from
Frontstage (a Belgian site). I ordered it on 13 November, where they quoted one
week's delivery, and I'm still waiting!!!!! That's Belgium to UK. Not exactly
a vast journey! Oh well, I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.
Then I can jump in with the others and give "MY" opinion.
Bet the bloody thing arrives in the post tomorrow, now that I've posted this!!!

I ordered from FrontStage too...both MP and the Squeeze Pleaze
single. They mailed me yesterday to say that MP was on the way
after a 3 week wait (it was being backordered) and that Squeeze
was still being waited for. They've been good at staying in touch
and I am quite impressed, even though the delivery has been
relatively slow. It'll probably arrive today or tomorrow, so fear not

Hey Americans!
While my local music shops don't expect to see Motion Picture without
special ordering it, I see that it is now available on CDNOW.com for $20.99,
which isn't too bad for an import.
I've had a good experience with cdnow in the past, so I would recommend
them.

Even though I overall am unimpressed with Motion Picture, I decided to apply
my bargain huntin' skillz to finding an inexpensive way to order MP in the
USA.
As it turns out, Buy.com has MP for $19.95. They are offering free shipping
for the rest of the year. They also have coupons. $10 off any order. So, as
you can see... $9.95 is a fair price for an import. :)
If you're a new Buy.com customer, use this coupon ($10 off you first order):

so here it is, thanks to www.eil.com in the UK at 17.99 UKP
the album has a dark but jazzy feel to it, and i can hear why it
reminds you of the yello of 'old'. yello does not really date.
the sound is very full, like pocket universe pushing my system to it's
sonic abilities. it's not as 'frantic' an album as past albums, this
is more laid back, slower bpm, sounding more purposeful.
squeeze please almost sounds out of place on this album, but it fits
in with the overall feel. motion picture is an ideal title, it does
call to mind scenes, particularly from detective movies.
anyway i shall be fully road testing the album Sat 27th. I have two
days of VMS operating system upgrades, hardware and reclustering, this
will be the accompaniment!

Subject: (yello) IT'S ARRIVED!!
Date: 01 Dec 1999 00:02:54 +0200
EUREKA!!!
17 days after placing the order, Motion Picture is here!
I've only given it the one playing so far and my verdict
is BRILLIANT!!! WONDERFUL!!! WELL WORTH THE WAIT!!!
Why this gem is not available in the UK, I'll never know.
There's such a haunting mix of albums from the past which
crops up in many of the tracks. It gives me a warm comfortable
feeling. Like meeting up with old friends.
Outstanding tracks first off have to be Houdini, Squeeze Please
(which I feel fits perfectly within this production), Shake and
Shiver and Point Blank.
My tastebuds were aroused from the mono samples downloaded from
the net. And to hear them now in full blown stereo reminds me
of the time I had my ears syringed... when everything became so
crystal clear and sharp.
I'll need a few more plays to be more specific on reviewing.
There's only one thing that bothers me. Normally when you play
an album for the first time there are a few great tracks and
the rest grow on you with time.
But with this one........... I love them all!!!
Either they will get boring or I will reach cosmic ecstasy!
Here's hoping for the latter!
Was all that a bit over the top? Aw.... what the hell. I'm happy!
I'm gonna Move..... Dance..... Be born....... AGAIN!!!
