If you're using QuickTime 4.0 (which you have to, don't you?), you can make
sure your settings for streaming - can be set from Control Panel, are set
for "Save streamed videos" or something... Then you'll get the *.mov files
in  "Temporary Internet Files" (IE4) or "cache" (Netscape). I set the
Connection Speed to the max, and then got a better quality 9.5 MB QT-video.

The music/video is ok, but doubt it will ever become a "hit" on MTV. But
then again, we wouldn't want that...? I think it's great Yello are going
back to the sound of "Flag" or "Baby", but hope they won't be repeating
themselves.

will give you everything you need.

Some people apparently saw only that short version.

If interested, you may download a sample and some text.ram from

but earlier there were more -- I have all sounds if anyone interested.
Soundstation sounds are also there somewhere (search for list archives

My question is: how to convert .ram to some usable audiofile format?
I'm not interested in to run some .ram plug-in or executable.

I don't know where the setting is in the Windows version, but in the Mac
version the 'save streaming files' setting is not in the control panel,
but accessed by control-clicking over the movie. Not exactly obvious, but
as I've now been able to work out where to find that, I've been able to
find it in Netscape's cache. (Yippee!!!)

I sure hope that the video gets shown enough. Especially on MTV Nordic,
since that's the one I'll be following.

Hello Yellow Fellows

Grabbed the few soundbites offered by MTV and requested
the video clip by email, but the reply from Mercury Records
is all in German!!! So I don't know what the heck it means!!
Leads me to a site which I've been to already.....

Other links offered by you chaps have proved fruitless too.
The movie won't download. Is this because I disabled Quicktime 2.5
some time ago? (when I was told of a nasty worm that fed off it)

As previously mentioned, this album sounds a bit like "Baby 2",
from the samples available (which isn't a bad thing...I loved "Baby".)
But as also mentioned, I hope they are not going to repeat themselves
too much with this new album. These three samples are not that inspiring.
But then you can't really get a good feeling from a mono soundbite, can you?
Still, I just love the latin rhythyms and brass accompaniament that Yello
have produced in the past, so I'm feeling optimistic! That's IF I can get
hold of the blasted thing in the UK!

bunch of Yello related items on there for sale.  I bought a Russian Yello
Best of 1999, that looks great and for only $13.00 w/shipping!

I found this yesterday, but waited until today to notify you all (I didn't
want to get outbid!), but as of this morning there are promo posters from
the Ralph era, another Russian Best Of, some other import CDs.  Check it
out.  I was quite surprised.  Of course you do have to wade through all the
Mello Yello items.

Wasn't that just a CD of MP3 files by Yello?  Maybe I'm thinking of
something else.  I picked up "Live At the Roxy" on CD a few months ago.
You certainly can find some nice stuff on Ebay.

I suggest you search like this:

Yello -Mello -Bole

That'll eliminate the unwanted junk. And you may want to search titles
only.  Not too much stuff is Yello related that isn't already mentioned
in the title.  I think I've seen the "Essential" video for sale once or
twice, and the occasional promo.  Lots of 45s.

First, I will be buying Motion Picture, with or without MP3s, out of
principle. However...

Am I the only one that is less-than-pleased with the Squeeze Please tune? I
read a post that described it as "Baby 2"... granted, I loved Baby. I love
all the Yello albums! But what really drives me is the fact that they're all
DIFFERENT... that's why I loved Pocket Universe. I loved the fact that it
was a concept album... I love the sound of Zebra. I love Flag, Baby, all the
rest.

I guess what I am driving at is that it doesn't really seem very much like
Yello when they're just cloning themselves... if this is really what they
wanted to do, as artists, then that's just great! But I have a strange
feeling that this has something to do with Pocket Universe not selling as
heavily as Mercury wanted...

I don't know... I'm sort of frustrated with this "new" sound...

Yes, i have a few. I think you may be jumping the gun just a little.
I too love every album yello's has done. everyone is unique and sounds very
differant.
however, I believe that this single has combined the sounds of flag, baby and
zebra all in one unique sounding, and visually stimulating experience.Elenore
certainly does add to this experiece a little.(ok, a lot) That booty shaking was
just done to perfection to those drums.
(actually, we dont really know who's booty that was)

For Boris to come up with a song that can combine three maybe four differant
ablum sounds all in one mix, and then add his new twist to the sounds(the snap
of those drums for example) is simply just amazing. I also beleive that they
have used a fresh new aproach to the production of this video. IE making fun of
themselve they way they done so.
this has never been done before to this extent  It is very refreshing to see
this.

I also think one cant judge an album by a few sound clips, like the ones from
the yello site.
I was extremely dissapointed, but not surprised at the Sound of Life remixes.
But then, this is nothing new. Most dj mixes are crap!!!.
Except for the Doug Laurent mixes. I hope we can look forward to seeing some
longer Boris remixes of this song. 3 and half minutes is just simply not
enough.This is a song that leaves you craving for more. MUCH MORE!

Sound mixing seems to be exactly same as earlier, also length is still
same (new one is more compressed??).
There seems to be few changes. Actually almost all video is zoomed out.
I hope that You undesrtand what I mean. Now there is little bit more
stuff in screen.
Earlier there was few times Dieter's face filled whole screen (black &
white picture), now there is used other pictures instead of it. And when
video starts there is now yellow "Y" middle of the loudspeaker.

I really love this new song. :-)

I can hardly wait that I can hear song with stereo sound. Is there some
way to listen stereo insted of mono when using Quick Time? And.. Is
there some way to change Quick Time movie to avi-file?

No there is not MP3 files. All tracks are taken from albums, nothing
rare tracks. I believe that it is just like "home made" collection. I
can make much better ones if I want to. Quality is not good, my car
cd-box don't like it... record jumping all the time.
But anyway it is one more record if one collects Yello items. If you are
not Yello collector, then better forget these Russian copies.

Or try this one. this cuts down the list to about 50 or so........

when you put a * after the item you are deleting, you only need to put part of
the description in the search field. This way you can then fit many more items
in the field.

I don't know just yet. Judging by these clips, it seems that Dieter is doing
less and less singing and instead sort of talks a bit monotonous in a low
pitch voice. I got this feeling on both Zebra and Pocket Universe as well. I
actually miss when he sang and also used a higher pitch. In my ears it
didn't sound so serious then but more "fun" and cheerful. In my opinion, the
lyrics were more absurd (in a positive way) then as well. Still PU is my
favorite album along with Stella.
I know that it's just snippets from 6 of the songs, but that's the way I
feel when I hear it.
Time Freeze is the favorite so far. I like the Squeeze Please video as well,
but I got the feeling that half way through, it started to repeat itself for
a bit.
Still, I'm looking forward to the 25 October.

I recently discovered that there are a number of surround techniques,
besides the "Dolby Surround Sound", that most are familiar with.  These
include: Ambiosonic, Quadrophonic, Circle Surround, Binaural, and ,most
recently, Dolby Digital. (see

I am wondering what sort of "surround sound" technique was used in the
production of "Claro Que Si".  "Homer Hossa" seems very immersive

Hey everyone !

This message is long and a bit technical, so I apologize if this post bores
some of you. If anyone can help with this and is an electronic musician
(Kevin Lux from the KW list; maybe you could help ?) I'd greatly appreciate
it !

Lately I've been considering what moves I should make with computers when I
will be upgrading my studio soon.

I already have a PC, but I hear from experts that in order to really have a
powerful digital audio workstation based around the PC, you have to do a lot
of system tweaking and get a really expensive computer.

Mainly a lot to do with DMA settings, buffer settings, and video cards.
There was one company called Sound Chaser that told me more about it and
basically said that there's really no way that you can get a cheap PC system
and expect it to do loads of tracks and 24-bit audio. They said that I
shouldn't buy anything besides a Pentium 2 at the very least because for
some reason K6's and Celerons can't handle audio that well.

I also know that in order to run a lot of real-time FX plug-ins, you need a
lot of memory. But how much is really enough ?

I really thought about getting an Apple G4 system because PC's have always
been giving me headaches since day one. I also know that a lot of people
like Boris Blank, Trevor Horn, and Orbital use Macs. I had this massive
system error a few weeks ago on my PC that caused me reinstall Windows and I
couldn't reconnect to the net for about three weeks.

But all of the good warez and cracks are mainly for PC only, and this is
another big factor in my decision (Radium and EVC forever !!!) ;-)

Another funny thing that I've been hearing about is this huge resurgence of
Amiga and Atari systems being used for composing. I know that these systems
are still really popular in Europe for recording. But aren't they mainly
just used for MIDI only ? I mean, there's really no way that you can do
digital audio on an Amiga or an Atari; am I right ?

Then I thought about using just regular good old hardware and take the silly
computing problems out of it by just getting a few regular sequencers and
some stand-alone hard disk recorders (particularly the Roland VS series
machines).

I know that this has been discussed a lot in magazines like Electronic
Musician and Keyboard, but somehow I always miss those issues ! ;-P

EUREKA!!!

Finally downloaded the Squeeze Please video. Took 43 minutes!
Well worth the wait. Thanks Mark and Dave for the tips on Quicktime.
It worked fine with 3.02. Now......I managed to save the movie in my
disc cache....but how do I retrieve it? Can I retrieve it? Or do I have to
download it again to listen once more? Mac solutions only please!

I think I'm going to like this new album. Back to those wonderful latin
rhythyms. Great driving music. I love it. I love it. I love it. Okay, on first
hearing the tracks sound a bit similar, but hey....don't they always!! I'm sure
there will be lots of individual gems to find in each track. That's what I like
about Yello....there's a lot more to it than that first impression. And a much
better video. At last they're thinking about it a bit more and not bombarding
us with images of Boris and Dieter in numerous poses. Sexy dancing, nice
animation (love the singing pineapples!) and a good morphing intro.

So now I have just two problems......viewing the video again quickly and finding
a place/site to buy the album. Answers on a postcard to .......

some details. I must say knowing Dieter's taste it is just a dream come true

an old mechanical typewriter and starting to put letters on a blank white
piece of paper. I have not finished reading the article but I must say it is
a MUST for my fellow Swiss list members.

movie it self with the left mouse button and hold it. Then a menue will come
up and choose settings. You will see a check mark that sais "download to

A gentleman never guesses at a *woman's* age...but I'd say you've as
much chance as any of us at being right with the two men concerned!

In the Yello Snub TV documentary there were scenes in Dieter's home,
where there were children and probably wives/sisters etc. And
maybe the lines "Should I phone Debbie Meier? Cos that's my one
desire" (if those are the words) from Night Flanger refers to either

My problem is that I'm also behind a firewall and can use only HTTP or FTP
and can't listen to RA streams. Anyway, I'll check if they have RM files
behind.

Concerning the MTV stuff, my question was if the Quicktime tracks available
there are the same as RealAudio tracks from www.yello.ch. If they are the
same, I won't bother to get them.

Except number 8.

They have now added "sorry no index" pages to subdirectories making
it impossible to download stuff easily. Therefore, please keep posting
direct URLs to this list.

Luckily they didn't make it earlier because, for example, Soundstation
had 10 or so unused samples in the directory. Particularly "synth" sound
fader was missing completely. For this reason I feel they did pretty bad
job with soundstation: why not put the missing fader to the soundstation?
Why not put the missing samples available in case somebody might want
play around with the full set of samples even web-soundstation had no space
for them?

I think Yello webpage people should understand the downloadings as
"not everyone is willing to be on-line and pay expensive phone-bills"
instead of "eeek, they are making illegal copies (whatever)".
(Moreover, I have to carry all stuff to home with floppies in order to
hear any audio.)

Am I understand right, do You have some problems to listen these tracks
without be on-line?

Of course You can download this on-line tracks as any else download
stuff. Ok, these real audio track are not so compressed as MP3 tracks,
but yes; one can download all of them to own hard disc if want to.

How have you all been ?

Well, I've had a somewhat good week, although it got off to a REALLY shitty
start. So I apologize for the following bitching and moaning. ;-P

You see, I missed the Coachella Festival (out in California) last weekend.
Almost everyone who I've ever wanted to see live before was there, and two
of my friends who were supposed to go and give me ride both couldn't make it
!!!! ;-0

ART OF NOISE was also there; it has been a long-time dream of mine to see
them perform their magic up on stage. These latest gigs (a short, one-week
jaunt across the US) have basically served as their second  tour ever (the
first being in 1986). So you can only imagine how furiously enraged I was to
miss out on this ! It was basically the last big event of the year that I
could have participated in. Since I'm leaving for the military next month,
I'm going to be missing Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.

FUCK, FUCK, FUCK !!!!!

Anyways, I don't want to ramble on about shit all throughout this mail, so
I'll try to tie all of this together really quick.

Well, since I didn't have shit else to do last weekend, I started work on
some songs. And I'm happy to say that I have finished two tracks already. In
fact, I was just doing some mastering before writing this mail.

So I just wanted to say a GREAT BIG THANKS to everyone who pitched in their
two cents (or insert your other currency here ;-) and advice regarding all
of the questions regarding digital recording and computers.

For now, I've decided to save up for an Apple G4; although I've somewhat
managed somehow by the grace of God to tolerate PC's and Windows, I still
don't want to deal with any crap that may crop up in the future.

So now, I actually have another batch of questions to ask regarding
computers and recording. Here we go :

1) HARD DRIVES : Okay, I know everyone says to buy a SCSI, but wouldn't it
actually be faster and easier to buy a USB or Fire Wire drive ? And do you
really need to have two ? I mean, everyone says that it's easier to have two
so your audio won't be bogged down by your other apps, but is it totally
necessary ?

2) VIRTUAL PC SOFTWARE : I thought about buying this type of software in
order to run all of my good ol' Windows warez on my new G4. But is it really
effective ? Does anyone know how it runs ?

3) 16 or 24 BIT AUDIO : Does it really fucking matter ?

4) CAKEWALK PRO AUDIO 8 AND LOGIC PLATINUM 4.0 : If anyone has these
programs, can someone tell me how you import wave files into your tracks ?

Well, that's all that I can think of right now. I might work on a web site
to host my songs on, but I'm a bit weary about this since the songs aren't
copyrighted. So who knows. Anyways, sorry for the length of this mail, but I
needed a good place to vent. ;-P

about a week or so ago.  I bid on this CD on an Ebay auction and it cost me
a whopping $10.00, a bargain by anyone's defination.  I finally received
this CD and here's some details.

The cover is mostly Yellow and Black in a checkerboard design, a slightly
mangled Yello logo on the front with a picture of Dieter and two other
people I have no idea who they are.  The back is also Yellow and Black in a
checkerboard design and the track listing on the left a small picture of
Dieter and Boris .

The overall quality is excellent, is it a bootleg?, of course it is.  And
before we start any discussion on artist rights and royalities, I firmly
believe that the artist should get all that they deserve, however I'm not
above buying a CD from an artist that may of shady character to get a
concert or extra tracks.  Hey I'm a fan!

So I've got a Russian bootleg which will make a great car CD with a lot of
great Yello stuff on it.  I'm happy with it, and if you can get one for
$10.00 jump on it!

Looking forward to the new album, however it may take a while to track it
down in Colorado!

Sure they do announce the official release date! Why would they tell the
truth that it arrives to Scandinavia two weeks after (as did last time)?!
[ Let me know how soon you got it then. ]

Add postage and handling (30 FIM?), and the price is way above the price
of local stores: 119 FIM at minimum.

I'm already expecting it arrives that late that they can collect up
all damaged versions of CDs to Finland (as they did with Zebra, and
in a minor way with Eccentrix Remixes). The Zebra incident was/is quite
terrific! Where to get a working copy of Zebra CD? Not from Finland then,
not now! I may digitally copy my Zebra CD for showing the worst parts if
you wish... I may even scan the disc just to show you that it looks
bad too, directly from the press.

Only if I would knew the responsive person at record company, I would
ask if they purposedly dump bad CDs to Finland. Sure they knew that those
Zebra CDs were not passing the test at factory, right?!

I did not order it. I have enough bad experiences of Boxman, just like
you... I just noticed it and I thought I'd let you know. Sorry. ;)

Just phone 'em. That's what I did and got free postage and handling etc.
It always pays off to moan a bit.

Personally, I am waiting for the local shops to get Motion Picture. This
should happen pretty soon... I hope.

Interesting to see the silence regarding the single.
I picked up a copy today in Bogstadveien (Norway). As we already know it
sounds like some of their old stuff. I actually find it boring, no
surprises or innovation. Still, I am looking forward to the album, as some
of the songs there sounds promising.

I actually dropped by the same(?) store in Bogstadveien, Norway,
(Platekompaniet) this evening, on my way to see Rosenborg beat the crap out
of german Borussia Dortmund 0-3 in Champions League!!!

...well, anyway, they did have the single today, and they also confirmed
friday (as mentioned above) that they will have "Motion Picture" the 25th.

Guess the reason for the list being this quiet about the new release is that
everybody already listened to it on the MTV or Yello site. As far as I can
understand, the first track is the only one made by Yello? Tracks 2-4 are
remixes by Martin Buttrich ++, and track 5 is remix by Goldkind. I like
tracks 3 and 4, and second half of the extremely short original version is
quite good too.

Today I stumbled over a "yello vs hardfloor" CD at HMV in the UK which I
wasn't able to find in the available discographies. The CD is published
by the label "Platipus" records and consists of the following "Vicious
Games" remixes:

1. Radio/Video Edit  3:47  [probably already known by the German yello
vs hardfloor release]
2. Art of Trance Remix  8:07   [I think this is farely unknown!]
3. Da Bomb remix   6:59   [probably also the same version as on the
German release]

Unfortunately I wasn't able to listen to the CD yet, but I will give you
a small review of the 2nd track soon.

To make things even more strange my CD is labled as "PLAT 52 CD" but the
recording in their discography consists of more than those 3 Tracks.
(But these additional tracks seem all to be the same like on the German
release.)

Hi all!

Now I have listened to the "Art of Trance"-Remix I found on the
"Platipus" record "yello vs hardfloor". I think it is quite good and
though it fits to the other "hardfloor" remixes in style it has a bit
more the sound of the original "Stella" album as a whole. Maybe this is
because the remixer made use of some other well known samples from the
original "vicious games" version than it was done with the other remixes
and there is for example also this "tschikitschikaahh" voice from "Oh
Yeah" in it. The very beginning of the song spontanously reminded me of
"Art of Noise" (maybe it is that strange sample used there).
By the way, the CD seems to be more unknown than it is rare. The "PLAT
52" release with more tracks seems to be the vinyl, while I got the CD
version with less tracks.

Chatted with Dieter Meier on MTV-Chat, but was very disappointed :-(
First I had no chance to start the Chat-engine on my Netscape4.5.
(With the IE no problem) And worst of all, Dieter was sort of stupid.

I asked for the real Name of Boris and he said Doris. Well, that was
fun,
but there was no info on the album itself, only fun,fun, fun.

Maybe there was someone else, and MTV feautured him as Dieter Maier.

Yes, I joined this chat. I must say, this is my very first chat at all. And,
like Georg, at the beginning, I was quite disappointed because of the many
people typing nonsens. But after 3pm it started to get interesting. Maybe it
was more interesting to me, because I am a native German speaker as Dieter
and Boris is. I asked Dieter several questions and got nice answers.
Unfortunately, I was not able to document that, because this java chat

Snowball:
The movie is ready in terms of  scenes, pictures, now he has to do the

two years ago in Munich at the Deutsches Museum Planetarium. Answer was,
Yes, he is going to do a project in a theater to establish a room (??).

Actor:
I asked Dieter, whether he still works as an actor. I remember him in a
smole role on a German TV crime fiction series "Tatort", where he acted as a
night club manager. Answer was, he loves to do small roles in Movies.

New Movie:
Dieter has plans for a new movie. Shall be done in L.A., crime fiction. Not
started yet.

Boris:
I asked for Boris, and Boris answered through Yello/Dieter_Meier. I was not
sure, whether Dieter was joking on me, or whether they sat both on one PC.
Dieter wrote several times, that Boris 'said' ...

IRC and all similar chat channels are merely jokes! You really thought
there are only Yello fans talking? If Boris and Dieter really would like
to discuss about Yello stuff with fans, they would be *here*.
Now that another poster mentioned Dieter reads this list, why then
we have not heard about Dieter anything?

This place would be much interesting if they could join us time to time.
Hey, they don't have to follow russian jokes or nags about damaged Zebra. :-)
They could have some kind of edited newsletter with questions from fans
and so on. IRCs, chats, and even this mailing list means noise in the
discussion -- I understand perfectly why they don't follow it and why
Jonas created the new mailing list.

Newsletter? Once a month? It should be edited by somebody who has close
contacts to Yello. E-mail could work for preediting questions and so on.
I could volunteer for receiving questions and so on but if it ends up

Yep, Just bought the motion picture AND the Squeeze Please CD-Single.

Track 4, Distand Mirror is definitely my fav. track. But all in all I am a
bit disappointed. Not that it is a bad release, no no not at all. But when I
think back to the 80's I found that every release was a milestone. They were
always surprises with very inventive sounds or as Dieter says Klangmuster
(don't know how to translate this). So this disc is just a typical Yello CD
with dance-sound. Very very well done by Boris and Dieter.
Some tracks remind me to other tracks. But it is probalbly much too early as
my experience tells me not to make an opinion after the first turn.

So any other comments????


Oh I hope I am not the only one that has them both.

Don't ask me for MP3's or CD-R's, I don't do this.

When you say it sounds like Yello, do you mean like the "Yello sound" or

Don't remember if this was discussed earlier, but I believe that famous
"o-o-o-oh-yea-a-ah-lo-o-oh" voice sample from "Liquid Mountain" is not
actually by Yello. I heard it in other songs by different artists. One
example is an album by "Slavik.. Kemmler", dated 2 years before Pocket
Universe release. The song Escape contains the exactly same sample.

Saturday I bought the new CD Motion Picture. It is indeed YELLO, More Yello,
just Yello . Just Great!

Is there any one on the list who is playing with sub-woofer (REL) ? I want
to know how low the basses go?

In my sound system it goes straight to +- 40hz but I think it go lower.
On what kind of system is this mixed, mastered ?? the base produced by a
monitor speaker( usually used in studios)  stops at 70hz , correct me if I
wrong ....

The new Yello album is titled "Motion Picture" and is released today, 25th
of October 1999. I'm at track 2 (just got home from the record store), and
if it continues like this I think I'm really going to like it!

Btw, when - as mentioned - I went to the record store earlier this evening,
I noticed that Yello's single (Squeeze Please) was as high as number 11 on
their selling charts(!)  Don't know how much Yello sells in other countries,
but seems like Squeeze Please is doing quite well in Oslo... or in that
store, anyway.

Did anybody else notice the following on the Motion Picture CD cover?

The two first ones are ok, but I can't even find an DNS entry for domain
name "yellomusic.de"... Is this a typo, or did they publish a domain name
they haven't registered (yet)?

Have listened through the CD two times now, and there are at least 4
excellent songs, and all over very good quality - in my opinion. "Bubbling
Under" and "Point Blank" are the best ones, tracks 3 and 4 are also great.

Talking about subs,
I have'nt heard Yellos latest, (becuase Australia always seems to be the
last to get Yello stuff)
but, Pocket Universe is amazing with a sub. I have a 300watt 10" sub in my
car. Some of the frequensizes on that album are truly amazing. Especially
the second track. The kick drum (I've noticed) can't be heard on
ordinary/average systems, but when you here with a sub....well,       the
kick can be felt only, and boy IS IT LOW....Very low.
I can't wait until Yellos latest comes to Australia. When it does, I'm sure
I'll let ya know just how awesome it really is.

Anybody in Finland seen the new cd or single yet? I asked one local record
store last week, and they said they should have "Squeeze Please" on
Friday. Well, they didn't. And now I am afraid to go to the store because
I am out of money and I just might do something I would later regret...
just imagine, to hold a new Yello cd in your hands, and no money to buy
it...

Oh well, I guess I can wait another week for my payday. Just have to keep
myself focused on something else than Yello. But that is darn hard since

Could somebody record what they write there? Or isn't technology ready for
such recording...? <pathetic grin>   [ well, I think people who write
browsers and chat programs do suck because they don't think this kind of
trivial things -- they seem to write programs just because of programming,
and not for users as should be; a possibility record the chat is not only
property these programs miss, they are missing the whole idealogy: off-line
use in every possible sense;  ok, nowadays people just don't care about
quality things; people work for companies and not for themselves, not for
customers ]

This is a Belgian on-line record store.

They have "Motion Picture" the site has an English language version and will
give prices in US dollars and ship to the US. I have ordered the new CD from
them and have used  them in the past. Although the site can be irritating to
use, once the item is ordered I have had no problems with them as far as
getting stuff to the UK.

Alright!

I went out and did it. I spent my last pennies on "Squeeze Please" and I
have to say I do not regret. It is a superb single! I think that now Yello
have succesfully melted their "new" and "old" style together (by "new" I
mean mainly Pocket Universe and by old the 80's). I didn't like PU that
much but this new material... my oh my. Can hardly wait to get my hands on
the album.

One funny thing was that I noticed how much Yello sounded like
Propellerheads. Any of you know 'em? They have a lot in common with Yello,
they are a duo, they have a song titled "Oh Yeah" and they have
collaborated with Shirley Bassey... oh, and they make very good music,
too.

(Btw, for Finns: the shop was Fazer Music in Tampere, and they said
they'll have Motion Picture on Friday.)

Yes it was, except for those awfull dj remixes!!!!
I'm not too impressed with those.
The single sounds much better on a home stereo.

finally got my copy of Motion Picture here at Munich at Pro Markt GrΣfelfing
for DM 27.99, which is app. US$ 15.5, VAT included. This is quite a low
price for a new CD. Anyway, it is worth!! I like it, it is beautiful Yello
pure.

I asked the guy in the store to check for the single. He found it in his
system, announced for 12/28/99 and mentioned, announcements for singles are
rarely so far in the future. There must be some misinformation.

I am going to check another record store right now...

Hi all!

Though you are discussing right now mainly about the new single and
album (which I both wasn't able to get my hands on yet), I have
something older, which might perhaps be also made by Yello.

Yesterday on the live chat I asked Boris if he recently made some music
for tv commercials and he said "yes". Unfortunately I wasn't able to ask
him about the special commercial I had in mind afterwards, but as the
sound is very yello-stylish I am nearly sure that this piece of music
was made by Boris.

It is a commercial by the car manufacturer "Opel" which is shown in
Germany since about half a year. I don't know exactly about which car it
is (maybe "Opel Astra"?), but during the spot you see how the car is
being constructed before it is driving through a quite futuristic city.
As a specialty this spot is always shown twice: first in the complete
lenght, then comes another commercial and then there is a short version
again.

If you would like to check out the sound of that commercial, you can do

Can anybody confirm the composer of that sound?

Went onto Amazon.com this morning and they have posted the advance order for
Motion Picture!  The price with shipping is $27.92.  It has a shipping date
of November 9, so you have some time to shop around.  But CDNow never did
pick up Eccentrix or the Hardfloor single.

Also, does it appear that Boris and Dieter are doing a lot more publicity
for this album than any other in recent memory?  Pressure from the record
company?  What do you think?

Not that I'm plugging them but the Belgian site I mentioned in an earlier
mail to the list (www.frontstage.com) would do the same (yes, that's inc.
shipping) for $19.88 - which is quite a BIG difference.

I have yet to hear the new album properly as it's still on order. But I did
download the "Squeeze Please" video from the MTV site. Initially I was a
little disappointed, it sounded like they were just going over old ground.
BUT... a few more listenings and I am very impatient to get my hands on the
album, this is quality Yello material. The latin dada video is one of their
best... it's a real pity it won't be seen on British TV (for the moment).

The PropellerHeads are definitly a goodtime. Very much into them. For a
debut album, they have a very accomplished sound. 4 of their songs have been
in american movies recently. Sure getting ALOT of movie-tracks. Movies like
"TheMatrix" (Kick-Ass Show)  "Something About Marry" (Unreal Funny)

This is some very original material. They are alot more repetitious then our
beloved YELLO.

Definitly worth a listen!!! If anyone one this list hasn't, do. Like Yello,

I too want to ask why the single and album are not available in UK, no
record shops have heard of it. This also happened with the PU singles -

Immer wieder waren es Duos, die klassischen Zweierkonstellationen, die die
Popwelt mit Songs und Skandalen, mit Pop und Pomp, mit Liedern und Lifestyle
versorgt haben:

Pet Shop Boys, Sonny & Cher, Ike and Tina Turner, Cindy und Bert, Simon &
Garfunkel und eben die Herren Eidgenossen:

Licht aus, Spot an - Yello sind wieder da!

Mit der neuen Single "Squeeze Please", neuem Video und dem neuen Album
"Motion Picture". Und es scheint fast, als wollten es die Herren Meier und
Blank alias Yello noch einmal wissen.

Die PR-Maschine lΣuft gut ge÷lt, Plakate zieren die StΣdte, und als
exklusiver Kooperationspartner in Sachen Ver÷ffentlichungspolitik wurde MTV
mit ins Boot geholt. Hier fand die vielbeachtete Videopremiere statt und auf
der Website MTVHome gibt es einen umfangreichen Yello-Bereich.

Grund genug, die inzwischen 22-jΣhrige Geschichte des Schweizer Duos, das
einst ein Trio war, ein wenig zu beleuchten.

Geschichte
=======
Schon der Beginn der Yello-Historie ist schillernd und schrΣg: Boris Blank
und Carlos Peron, Grⁿndungsmitglied von Yello, welches die Band spΣter
verlie▀, lernten sich in einem Auto-Testlabor kennen.

Dort hatten die beiden nichts Besseres zu tun, als den LΣrm der
Versuchsautos aufzunehmen, um im Studio damit zu experimentieren. Zwei
Brⁿder im Geiste hatten sich gesucht und gefunden, es schlug die
Geburtsstunde von Yello.

Auf der Suche nach einem SΣnger wurden sie fⁿndig bei Dieter Meier, seines
Zeichens Maler, Dandy, Pokeras und Golfprofi.
Er war es schlie▀lich, der den Namen der Band erfand.

1979 wurde der erste Plattenvertrag mit dem damaligen Kultlabel Ralph
Records aus San Francisco, das auch die Residents beherbergte, unter Dach
und Fach gebracht. Dort ver÷ffentlichte man die ersten beiden Alben "Solid
Pleasure" (1980) und "Claro que si" (1981), die heute Kultsstatus genie▀en.

Mit "You gotta say yes to another excess" (1983) stellte sich dann auch der
kommerzielle Erfolg ein. "I love you" und "Lost again" waren Erfolgssingles
in Europa, wo der Yello-Durchbruch nicht zuletzt durch den aufkeimenden
Videoboom begⁿnstigt wurde.

Das audio-visuelle Konzept der Band aus Song einerseits und seiner
filmisch-dramaturgischen Umsetzung andererseits, fand jetzt breite
Aufmerksamkeit. Dennoch entschied Carlos Peron sich, die Band zu verlassen,
um eine Solokarriere zu starten.

Auch "Desire" von der LP "Stella" (1985) geriet zum Hit, ebenso wie das
superbe "The Rhythm Divine" von der 87-er "One Second". Hierfⁿr hatte man
Shirley Bassey verpflichten k÷nnen. Eine gute Entscheidung - war sie es
doch, die diesen Song mit der n÷tigen Mischung aus James Bond-Suspense und
Las Vegas-Eleganz versah.

In Deutschland bohrte sich dann ganz besonders "The Race" von der 88-er "The
Flag" ins Ohr. Die ARD setzte diesen Song als gern geh÷rtes Titelthema der
zu jenem Zeitpunkt ⁿberaus populΣren Videosendung "Formel Eins" ein.

In den 90-ern stagnierte das Unternehmen Yello etwas, oder besser gesagt:
Die kommerziellen Erfolge blieben aus, die Fans ihren Favoriten jedoch treu
verbunden. Zu diesen AnhΣngern zΣhlten natⁿrlich auch viele Musiker, deren
eigenes Oeuvre von den Schweizern beeinflusst war. Mit "Hands on Yello"
setzten Kⁿnstler wie Westbam, Carl Cox oder Moby der Band mittels ihrer
Songversionen ein Denkmal.

1997 erhielten Dieter Meier und Boris Blank dann als erste Musiker ⁿberhaupt
den Art Award der Stadt Zⁿrich.

Steht 1999 nun ganz im Zeichen eines "Comebacks"? Wie auch immer: Yello sind
wieder da, und die QualitΣt von "Motion Picture" ist mit Sicherheit dazu
angetan, zu neuen, erfolgreichen Ufern aufzubrechen, oderrr?

Regarding this new www.yellomusic.de site - which is announced on the
"Motion Picture" cover, I just read (dated today) on the Suite 909 news site
(http://www.paper.dk/suite909/) that this domain is not even registered/has
an DNS entry.

Well, actually it does. Below is the information I got from a DNS lookup
tool. Even though the site www.yellomusic.de isn't yet active, it seems
certain that they will go for this domain name eventually. The site
www.yello-music.de has the exact same information and owner. This does
answer but has no content, as of yet.

Yep. I'm an owner of Motion Picture here at Finland.

I will not review it but I have to correct some points:
Yello has not leaped back to "good, old" Yello music --- it is only
a new style of Yello.

This may sound strange but I hope that there will be no a hit song
from this album: (i) the album is strongly jazzy and people will
be majorly diappointed if they buy the whole album because of a possible
hit song, (ii) even if they buy only the single, such as Squeeze Please,
they get those bad third party remixes.

Anyway, I know I will listen to the album 100+ times within next few weeks
(with my lovely neighbors, of course <grin>). Recommended album for Yello
fans!
