Sorry to bother you all with versions of Oh Yeah but does someone have =
the US or Canadian 12" single of Goldrush? I read in a Canadian promo =
sheet that the B-side has Oh yeah (Dance Mix) but as far as I know that =
version was released in 1987. Unless, of course, it's the original 1985 =
extended version which is the same but without the car sound intro. If =
YOU have that 12", please mail me. (Besides, I can't believe that no one =
has the US Desire 7"/12" single!) JW

Yesterday's paper, the norwegian "Verdens Gang" (http://www.vg.no), ran =
an article in their music section, on upcoming releases in Norway the =
next couple of months. The Yello album is included in this list, and =
according to VG it's called "Eccentric Remixes" and will be released in =
Norway in January.=20

I mailed a large (but very mainstream) norwegian record store =
(http://www.akersmic.no) to ask if they had got an official release date =
yet, but they did not know anything more than we do - that Yello will be =
releasing a new album early 1999.

Uhm, my lips are sealed at the moment. The point is that not even =
Mercury have decided 100% yet what to release and when. There are plans, =
but as long as they are only plans I am not allowed to reveal anything. =

Over the weekend I bought a couple of versions of Front 242s Headhunter 2000,
for those of you that have not heard of this album it is 16 different versions
of Headhunter (17 if you get the US copy).  It's an interesting idea and if you
are a 242 fan worth listening to.

My question to the group is this; Is there a Yello song you would like to see
remixed 17 different ways?  And let's take Oh Yeah out of contention right off
the bat since it has been remixed a lot already.  Anything else?

Some tracks need clarification: three are previously unreleased (1, 3 =

a new track (I can well imagine it as the theme of the next Bond =
movie!).

It will probably not be relased outside of Germany/Europe.

I Really don't like that, how about other _real_ fans??

There should no upload any new stuff. You know... money belongs to
artist.
I am disapointed that some fan even can think about that. :(

I think that it's the better way that You order record to some European
record store, Intenet is full of record stores.
That's the way how we Europeans do If some records were published only
in US.

I hope that You understand what I mean. ;)

As it happens, a mouse mat is exactly what I need right now,
but to part with 20 pounds for one (even a Pocket Universe one)
is a little too much for me. But if it's inlaid with gold, comes
with a signed boxed CD set I may reconsider!

I'm looking forward to the remix album. Can I assume that available
in Germany/Europe will include little old UK?
We haven't *fully* signed up yet!

Robert, I think this is absolutely illegal. The CD should be available through
CD-stores as 'import' shortly afterwards it is released here in Germany or
Europe. Anyway, I am going on a business trip to the SF bay area in the 2nd
week of February, so I could bring a bunch of CDs and send this in U.S.
through standard mail. Anyway, I cannot promise to do this, it depends...
Costs could be around 20 - 30 US$.

Anyway, I am taking requests: Just send mail to [e-mail], no money,
no address, just for counting.

No.

I'm not being facetious, I would most like to hear some new material and
to be brutally honest, the last thing I want to hear is a remix of The
Race (though I probably will rush out and buy the remix album). Why
encourage the popular image of Yello being
that-band-in-the-Eighties-who-did-The Race, when they've made far better
records since? In fact Boris should destroy all his old sounds and
sequences and start with a fresh pallette. PU is evidence that this is
the way to go (though I realise that not everyone thinks like this).

I received a "new" magazine the other day called SOUND & VISION. Apparently,
STEREO REVIEW morphed into that due to the overwhelming demand for product
information on other-than-stereo equipment.

Within this magazine is a section in which they test three speaker systems
with XTC using their new CD as reference material. Furthermore known as the "S
& V Sessions."

So far this has nothing to do with Yello I realize, but one can only hope*
they have the savvy to use Eccentrix in the same light.

As I've said before on here I use YELLO to test audio system,
particularly Pocket Universe CD. I have recently received this on vinyl,
so I'll compare and let you know anything interesting here...

In the mid 80's there was a CD called the Sheffield Drum Track, and it
was a raw recording of various instruments, mainly drums, used to test
audio equipment. I'd like to track down a copy, but...

High fidelity means that, a faithful reproduction of the original, if
you've heard the original (i.e. someone playing a set of drums in front
of you) you know what to compare it with.

This is no criticism, but when you listen to Yello, there is no
"unamplified and unmixed" version, it comes out of a mixer (over
simplification!). What I think you do hear though, is their skill at
creating a sound stage.

On the subject on Eccentrix, I asked at a couple of major stores in the
UK (HMV and Virgin) and neither have a release date or any information on
this album.

Well, they have generally stuck with releasing new albums every 2-3 years,
haven't they?

But I agree, I am quite uninterested in yet another rehash of OLDER remixes.
I got the Hands on Yello CDs and wasn't that impessed. Many of the remixes
sound hastily thrown together from sound clips and cheesy samples. I'm
willing to give the "art factor" a healthy dose of support (ie: when
listening, just assume it doesn't sound professional because it was done by
professionals trying to sound artsy), but I can only give this support to a
point.

Hence my interest in somebody releasing some MP3s of this new "album" first,
because I am honestly not interested in any more remixes by third parties
unless they are quality. Perhaps some very, very low bitrate encodings? Say,
32kbs 22,500hz stereo? Nobody would want to listen to those for day-to-day
listening but it could give those of us unsure in the actual product a
chance to test the water. Remix albums are notoriously crap, IMO, unless
they are remixes from the original artists.

If this had been an actual Yello studio album, I would buy without
hesitation because I know what I am getting.

And FYI: I think Pocket Universe is one of Yello's finest.

Hi,

I've got new album on Saturday. Well, to be honest, I expected more from
this CD. Without any doubts, there are pretty good tracks, but
unfortunately, majority are just ordinary 3rd party remixes - nothing
special.

I like 'On Track' - very good remix! Of course, it's far from original song
and original athmosphere, but at least it very well arranged. ;-)

Also I like 'She's Got A Gun'. Very, very nice track! Rhythmic, but not
hard.

And 'Rubber remix' is almost extended version of the original song. Still
very cool!

As for the other tracks - nothing special. Of course, it's only my opinion,
and I'd like to hear another thoughts on this. Usually, reading reviews in
this list is a great pleasure for me.

Also, I have a question. What are the words in 'On Track'?
"Night train, _, vain, wheels, journey, station unknown".

But now, let's directly move to the tracks:

Nr.1: When I recognized the title, I directly remembered those of you, wh=
o
hoped that there will be *no* more remixes of the famous "flag" tracks. B=
ut I
guess you will change your mind, because this "Brake Light Mix" of "The R=
ace"
is just great! Ofcourse it is a Boris Blank only remix...;-)

Nr.2: "How How". I already new and disliked this "Papa-Who-Ma-Mix" from "=
The
Fluke-Mixes" maxisingle, so no more comment about that.

Nr.3 "More". This remix by Boris Blank is absolutely great! The tune is v=
ery
different from the original version, but the sounds and arrengements are
superb in my opinion. By now my favourite track of this CD.

Nr.4 "Do it" ("Marky. P & Teri B. Dub"-Remix) I already new that track fr=
om
the CD-single and didn't like it very much. But you can listen to this re=
mix,
if you are too lazy to skip forward...;-)

Nr.5 "Topaz". I don't know where the original version of this "Insect Mix=
" by
Boris Blank comes from. A quiet interesting song, which I may have to lis=
ten
to more often to get used to it.

Nr.6 "How how" I didn't know this "In Silence"-remix, though it was alrea=
dy
released on the "Plutone's Mixes". But after listening to it, I didn't ha=
ve
the impression that not knowing it was a fault...:-|

Nr.7 "On Track" ("Daug Laurent's First Journey") Some time ago I was luck=
y to
get the complete "On Track"-Maxi-CD including this very good remix. Norma=
lly I
don't like non-Blank-remixes, but this one is just great, though not very=

yello-stilish. [The recording quality of this version is a bit better
than on the single]

Nr.8 "Vicious Games" ("B.Blank / O. Wollschl=E4ger") I've got the "Hardfl=
oor vs.
Yello"-single, so there is nothing new for me here.

Nr.9 "Rubberbandman" ("Rubber Mix"). As the following track nr.10 I may h=
ave
heard this remix via the ftp-site, but not so often, because I don't like=
 mp3.

But this song is absolutely great! It's the good old yello-style
and I like it very much.

Nr.10 "She's got a gun" ("Live at the Palladium NY") Fantastic, that such=
 a
good song from Yello's first years has made it onto the latest remix albu=
m!
This is the (already released, "Goldrush"-single) 1986 version by Boris B=
lank,
which was rather new for me.

Nr.11 A very good remix of "To the Sea" by "TSWL". It doesn't follow the
ordinary way of remixing a title and it is also very different from the
original version. Very interesting "new" song, after the 2 versions on "P=
ocket
Universe" and the CD-maxisingle didn't come up with very different versio=
ns.
Stina's great voice plays the most important part in this remix.


To sum it up, who may like this CD? Well, I do...;-) =

But you have to see that for the die-hard-Yello-fan there are not very mu=
ch
new tracks on this "compilation". Only 3 of the 11 Tracks are previously
unreleased, so it depends on your collection how many songs you already k=
now.
Altogether the music-style is just like the CD-title says and we all know=
 and
expect it from Yello: very "eccentric"...;-) That's why I guess that this=

album will not be very successfull with people who don't already know and=
 like
Yello. It is a very weird collection...;-)
This album is for the medium-die-hard-Yello-fan who doesn't have all the
singles but is always happy to get some new remixes. =

If you have to pay 50$ or more because of online ordering you may be
disappointed by the CD, but as the true Yello-collector - what does money=

mean? ;-)

1: I don't trust using them with my credit card and

Now if I order it from some European country, will the sleeves be in
English? or will they be in some other language?
Will it be released in the US (Because the US is very quick with imports for
Australia and European countries aren't).

or would I be best to wait....oh about 6-18 months for it to arrive here (If

Hi Yell'ers!

I'm going to be in Switzerland for 2-3 weeks in February and, of
course, I'd like to shop for some CDs. Among other items on my
shopping list are Eccentrix and Pocket Universe (I bought PU right
after it was released, but some time ago one of my fellow coworkers
took it and failed to return, so I'd like to buy another copy). I'm
almost 100% sure Yello CDs, including the most recent releases, must
be available in Switzerland without any problems. My problem is that
I'm unaware of good music CD stores there. I would really appreciate
if somebody of Swiss residents or other people could recommend me a
good store in Bern or Zurich (mostly these two cities). Many thanks in
advance for any information.

On my web site I have a list of on-line shops, with the ones I've =
used successfully asterisked. That of course doesn't help if you have =
no credit card... :-(

Question (to anyone): the cheapest copy of Eccentrix I've found so =
far is DM34.99 (c. US$21, A$33) (at Hit Stop). Are there any cheaper =
copies floating around other CD shops that I haven't come across yet? =
The prices I've seen so far seem a touch expensive, especially as =
postage is extra.

I waited in vain for a local release of Pocket Universe, and =
eventually gave up.
HMV in Sydney got some copies of it, so they would probably get a few =
copies of Eccentrix. It's only a short 12 hour drive from Brisbane. =

Well, 'Topaz' is a pretty good track. In my opinion, it's in 'Zebra' style.
I like it, because 'Zebra' and 'PU' are my favourites.

Also, as Matthias said, 'To the Sea' is a nice unexpected remix. I can call
it 'vocal mix' - no drums, very little instrumentation, and a lot of Stina's
voice.

I bought my copy of PU here in Brisbane. I got it at HMV at Indooroopilly.
They managed to get a few imports in when it was released. I've already
asked there about Eccentrix (last week) and was told to check again in a
couple of weeks time. It usually takes a couple of weeks after release for
it to show on their import list. Hopefully they will be able to bring it
in. If they don't, I might try Rocking Horse Records in the city, I think
they managed to get PU in as well (I've even seen a Yello single there as
well!)

If you live in Sweden, you should just make a trip to Oslo in Norway, =
and buy it in any store here! :-)  I bought my copy of "Eccentrix =
Remixes" for 140 NOK, which I guess is about 140 SEK too (...and =
=A311.50 or $18.50 for our international viewers)

I love the new album. Except for track 2 (How How - Papa-Who-Ma-Mix) and =
perhaps track 9 (Rubberbandman - Rubber Mix), I find this to be an =
excellent collection of Yello and Yello 3rd party mixes - even though =
only 4 of the 11 tracks were new to me. The only really new song, =
"Topaz", was sort of a "Flag"-flashback for me... which in my case means =
*great*! But it also sounds a bit like some of Propellerhead's music, =
doesn't it? Yeah, and I think it would be cool as a part of the =
soundscore for the new Bond-movie ("The World Is Not Enough") ;)

Yesterday I heard Vicious Games remix on Russian radio station.I suppose
that it was Eccentrix remix. I can say that this remix differs a lot from
the original version. It was more dance oriented cool mix. If all the mixes
from Eccentrix are the same, this album is great!

Hi all,
     The marketing of the new album 'Eccentrix Remixes' has been a little
dissapointing, - with what seems like distribution to certain areas only.
I get the impression that Mercury were expecting little feedback on this
one. (You could ask the point behind the release in the first place!)

Fans outside the distribution areas seem to have lost out, - which is
exemplified by the postings to this list.

Can anyone explain the track 'Topaz' in a little more detail - or upload
an 'excerpt' to a Web-Site? (This is in regard to the fans who may not
get a copy of the CD for a long while!)

The same here in Finland. I bet they have a hard time in collecting
and wrapping the mismanufactured CDs to be send here north -- **just like
they did with Zebra**. I'm sure they have find out people here don't care
if the CDs are used or not, mismanufactured or not. Most new CDs you can
find here in shops are truelly used but they are still sold as new because
record companies are sending used-in-shop CDs (if not used) from Middle
Europe to here north, instead of sending brand new unopened CDs still
warm after pressing machine.

I have two Zebra CDs and both have exactly the same errors. Elsewhere
in Finland a Yello fan got a Zebra CD where errors were in different
places.

Actually, I encoded all of the album, so I can listen to it both at work =

Of course I don't know if this company will last longer than the other one,
but here in Germany you can buy Re-Watches in nearly every super-market since
some months. There has been even a TV-spot with Dieter some time ago.
Unfortunately they don't sell any "Zebra" or other Yello-style watches.

I agree, 100%. It's shocking and very disturbing that the site has not be=
en
updated. The site is showing it's age very, very heavily now (Netscape 3
recommended, etc).
