This is what Boris told me:
"I think that this æDr. Van Steiner, I'm very sorry I'm unable...Æ, I think
I took this out of a warewolf film or something, I canÆt remember anymore."
Any ideas anyone of what film this could be? JW

I've got the album, and I was quite disappointed by it. I think it lacks
depth and imagination, especially compared to Yello. It just didn't sound
that unique to me, in the same way that Yello albums are. I'd give it no
more than 5/10.
Regards,
Craig.

I Briefly listened to the album and did not like it enough to buy.

OK I admit it I smoke a little POT here and there. Mainly for the music when I
sit down and listen. One strange thing I have noticed. With today's great
music like William Orbit and Kruder and Dorfmeister and so on it works
wonders. But with Yello I enjoy it more when I'm not.
A little confession :)

Subject: (yello) Essential Yello
Hi Guys and gals,
Just finished viewing 'Essential Yello' video and I must say
that I am disappointed. I know this video is 6 years old but
I did expect a little more inventiveness from Boris and Deiter.
There's too much 'projected images on faces and backdrops'
for my liking. And after watching the dynamic duo face left,
and then right, and contort faces a few times it becomes boring.
There's too much slapstick and 'Laurel & Hardy' antics.
I thought the idea of videos was to enhance the music. I found
most of the time it got in the way of the music. The potential
for stunning visuals to accompany such great music is enormous.
Why wasn't it used? A couple of tracks (Of Course I'm Lying' &
Desire) used good footage of snowscapes and shipyards. Elsewhere
the odd clay modelling sequence was interesting, too. But then
have you seen the video that accompanied 'Sledgehammer' by Peter
Gabriel? Brilliant!
And why are some of these versions different to those on the
original albums? If the track is preceded by the title 'The Race'
from 'Flag 1988' why is it not THE track off the CD? I was most
upset by that. Is this another remix selection?
Not even dearest Shirley could raise the standard of this video.
I'm sorry, but I just feel this video was an opportunity for
some wonderful visuals. It didn't deliver (for me).
Are there any other videos available, or are they just like
this one?

Yello's music, often described as "soundtracks for unseen movies" does not
lend itself well to the finite limitations of the visual sense.
The video format was and is a slick marketing tool for artists that lack
substance.
I categorize their videos as trinketts not unlike the promo wax lips that came
out with One Second.
