Anyone see that posting to the newsgroups about the Blockbuster sets?
How he 'heard' there were two different kinds, with and without the
logos?
Anyone seen any without the blockbuster logos?

These 276 cards -- 100 rare, 80 uncommon and 96 common -- are completely
playable
on their own (without requiring cards from other sets), yet
fully integrated into the Star
Trek Customizable Card Game. In fact, many of the new cards
work hand-in-glove with
your existing cards to offer new strategic possibilities.
Just like the premiere starters, Deep Space Nine starter
decks will contain 60 cards: 2
rares, 13 uncommons and 45 commons. And just like premiere
starters, they will be
randomized. However, thanks to an innovative sorting
process, these starter decks will
also be "playable."
Our process will ensure that almost every starter deck,
while randomly assorted, is
playable right out of the box. So what does this mean? It
means every deck, statistically
speaking, will have enough missions, outposts, ships and
personnel to build and play a
legal deck. Just the ticket for those friends of yours who
want to stick their toe in the
water before jumping in feet-first with the rest of us.
So this means you're going to end up with tons of common
missions, right? Not at all.
We've greatly reduced the occurrence of duplicate common
missions by creating
sixteen "bonus" commons to take their place in the
expansion packs and in a portion of
each starter deck. (This is why the set size was increased
from 260 to 276). From a
collecting standpoint, this means that not only do those
common missions keep from
becoming "binder fodder," but the set also includes 16
additional cards basically "for
free." In other words, you're collecting 276 cards for the
price of 260.
What this means for the collectors among us is that each
expansion pack will contain 9
cards randomly assorted from 260 of the 276 cards in the
Deep Space Nine set, while
the other 16 (the common missions) are exclusive to starter
decks -- usually 6 or 7 of
them in each starter.
I have two other things to share, about things you can be
looking forward to in the Deep
Space Nine cards. First, there is a whole new quadrant to
play in! The Gamma
Quadrant, accessed via the Bajoran Wormhole, will have
brand-new missions for every
affiliation. The fact that there are now two different
quadrants to explore creates some
interesting hiding and trapping strategies.
And, although this set features the two new, fully playable
affiliations (Bajoran and
Cardassian), we have not forgotten the other major Alpha
Quadrant empires.
Federation, Klingon and Romulan players will each get a
handful of new personnel and
ships, plus plenty of other new cards to help their deck
strategies.

Any word yet on C/U/R distribution in booster packs vs. starter decks in DS9?
I know that starter decks will contain 2 rares, 13 uncommons and 45
commons, but how about boosters?
Starter decks are alluring (becuase of the 16 "bonus" commons that will be
available only there), but booster packs from the *premier set* provided
more rares for the buck than the starter decks.

Voyager FYI:
20 characters signed autographs, all signed about the same amount.
Seven of Nine(subset) is 1:8 packs, and #7 card is 1:3boxes.
Trying to get a wee bit more details!

on the slipcases I had them in. See, I got them in the mail and... well,

I've got three sets and all mine have the BlockBuster sign on the back.
It's highly unlikely that they took the expense to produce two different
backs to these cards.

I can sorta kinda maybe see the idea..look at the MS II promos, there were
several different promos made for CCPG, NSU, etc, each had a different logo
on them, so I can see them priniting up on one sheet some with and without
logos....I am reluctant to say they DID it,, just that they could have, but
if it was a Blockbuster exclusive...why would they?Lynne

I was similarly upset, but had only bought 4 cards so far. They claimed
they had sent notice some time ago, giving an opportunity to buy whatever
remained before the cutoff date, but I never received it. They also
suggested I call Collector's Information Bureau at (847) 842-2200, for
possible leads on where to get the remaining cards.
What really angers me is I was at a recent convention where I could have
bought some of the cards at a lower price than I was paying by
subscription, but I figured I should stay with the subscription in order to
get the free display. Now I don't get that either!!

This may be a slight deviation from the purpose of this list, but I think
everyone who reads it may benefit.
I do a lot of buying on eBay. Probably over $5000.00 worth of stuff in the
last 5 months. I recently got my first piece of negative feedback and
posted my first piece, as well. I wasn't going to post neg f/b until I saw
that the other individual felt it was OK to slam me.
Here's my version of what happened. You all need to make up your own minds:
The seller (who, in a mature manner, feels it's necessary to have a
different pseudonym as his/her eBay user name and another as his/her e-mail
address - neither of which bear any relationship to his/her real name, I'm
sure) is known on eBay as:
washtepeshe
His/Her e-mail address is:
wenaki@micron.net
OK, so here's what happened:
I was high bidder on 2 of his/her items. In one case, my wife, not knowing
I had been bidding on it, saw it in a retail store locally and brought it
home as a gift for me. This happened within a day or less of my winning
the item in auction. Not realizing that they were available locally, I had
bid up to about $60 for the item my wife picked up in the neightborhood for
less than $20. So I wrote to the seller and asked - not demanded, just
asked - if I could get out of the deal, explaining what had happened.
Well, that's when I realized I had stepped into immaturity and auction
HELL! The name-calling and totally irrelevant accusations began
immediately. I was a scum bag, because I had been on both his/her items in
the last moments of the auction (not sure why that's a bad tiong) and if I
was gonna cancel on the one item, then I wasn't allowed to acquire the
other, either. He/she also threatened to leave negative feedback if I
didn't hold up my end of the deal. Well, that ticked me off, and I decided
I wasn't gonna buy the overpriced item no matter wat. I told him/her that
the option of leaving negative feedback was certainly within his/her
rights, but that I'd appreciate his/her looking at my feedback file, first.
Up until this time, all feedback for me was glowingly positive.
Firthermore, I said that i would really like the second item and would also
be willing to pay any costs associated with the need to relist the
overpriced item. Initially, this was accepted and then came the demand for
a money order - nothing else would do. Now, to be honest, this info may
have even been in the item description, but tht's incidental. I advised
that money orders are difficult for me to get, because my job's hours
overlap the Post Office's "open" times on both ends of the day. I also
suggested that he/she check my feedback to see that I was a good payer.
Apparently, none of this was good enough; I HAD to send a money order.
Well, I managed to get out of work early enough one day to get a money
order and off it went. =20
Upon informing the seller that the MO was on the way, I was informed that
he/she had sold the one item he/she had and I'd either have to take back my
money order or wait for delievery of another. I expressed my
disappointment over being told it was available and would ship immediately
upon receipt of the MO and then it was no longer available. I said I'd
wait for another to come in. A week or so later, I get the MO back in the
mail, no note of explanation, nothing. I decided to drop the whole thing,
realizing I was dealing with either a jerk, an immature individual or a
mentally disturbed person.
A day or two passes and I decide to take a look at my feedback file and
there, despite his/her stated decision NOT to leave any negative comments,
was a very nasty piece of work.
Well, suffice it to say that I strongly recommend that you all have no
dealings with this individual:

Now I'm still waiting for my replacement box... I assume that will be sent
separately. They told me on the phone back when I was getting info about
replacement that they replace auto cards quickly directly from the coll.
support dept. (since they had SO MANY complaints they had a supply there),
but that boxes and other replacement cards would have to come from a
warehouse somewhere.

Remember the Starlog set? There was an advertizement they sent out at te
time saying for $10 you could get an uncut sheet of the holograms,
limited to 1,000. Did anyone get this and if so, do you know if it was a
sheet of the gold or silver holos?
Lynne
HEY!, I be back...and the sheet is silver..if no one answered
this yet....
Got the box here on my desk...thanks again

I am just wondering, my husband went to Origins over the weekend and he
picked up some ST CCG cards in a cello pack (the Decipher ones). There are
2 cards in the pack. One is The Emissary (which is a DS9 card), and the
other is The Traveller (which is a STNG card). What I am wondering is, are
they in the regular sets as well, or is this something good? :-) Both are
dated 1998. Thanks for your time :-)

Has anyone else noticed that the DS9 checklist in this issue lists 277 (not 276)
DS9 cards. There's one extra rare. I'm sure we'll know by next week when it's
released, but I wonder which one will not make it into packs...

(Sorry, this got a bit long...)
As I mentioned on-list about a week ago, I got my replacement TOS2
autograph from Skybox; it was card A51 (Stephen Brooks). Skybox had told me
that only two cards (Brooks and Bouchet) were available for those who
didn't get autographs in their purchased boxes.
This week, I got my factory sealed and numbered (21,xxx) replacement box
from them for my second miscollated box, and interestingly, the autograph
card inside was A51 (damaged! Can't they do anything right?!).
My speculation/question for the group:
Because the probability of getting A51 in a box versus a different
autographed card is low (even if it is one of the more common autographs),
I'm speculating that replacement boxes (for miscollated boxes) will ALL
have either the Brooks or Bouchet autograph card. Can anyone else who have
received replacement boxes confirm or refute this? Any other comments on
this?
I'm also speculating that there may be a HUGE difference in the numbers of
different autograph cards distributed. We know that Shatner etc. are quite
rare, but I suspect there are other cards (A51?) produced in quantities
sufficient to asphyxiate an equestrian critter.
Another interesting tidbit that suggests non-random collation: unlike most
boxes in my experience, this replacement box has *exactly* the prescribed
ratios of all the subset cards.
Since the autograph card in my replacement box is damaged (scuffed down to
the white in two places on its face), I'll have to request yet another
replacement; however, since I already have an A51, I'm going to ask for the
Bouchet card instead. If they don't, I'll have an A51 to trade for another
autographed card.
(It just occurred to me that this brings up another interesting question:
What if my scuffed autograph card was Shatner, rather than Mr. Red Shirt?
Does Skybox have a stock of extra autographed Shatner cards (or for that
matter, any card other than Brooks & Bouchet) for this contingency? If not,
how would they resolve the situation? I suspect they would try to get away
with substituting Brooks or Bouchet.)
The most entertaining part of this whole affair thus far is the letter that
accompanied my replacement box: "Quality audits taken during and after the
production process have not revealed any collation problems." Do the others
on this list agree that our collective experience suggests that there were
some collation problems? (I got my box replaced, and I seem to recall that
J!m encountered collation problems even worse than mine.)

I would agree with you there, though Skybox gave out quantities of autos for
Season One, they have steadfastly refused to quote numbers this time. As of
yet, they haven't said how many of each auto was printed, which I take to mean,
we may faint were we to find out...;)

I would say yes. THey have to keep a certain number in stock, now what happens
after they run out in an interesting question??!!!
I sent in a mirror card for replacement and got one and surely Skybox is aware
that an A51 is no replacement for a Shatner!!!

For myself, collation was better then quoted odds at least 50% of the time and
at least at the odds for the rest. I got some of the C and BTS cars collation
problesm (C107 and B99) that were mentiond and I know o a few people with
problems with the auto challenge cards (four boxes and can't make the sentance,
even NOT taking the V into account!!!!)

Here is an update regarding the Star Trek
CCG Deep Space Nine Expansion Set
release schedule that we are sorry to have to
offer.
Due to an unforeseen production issue, the expansion release
date must be
changed from July 15 to July 22, 1998.
This short delay will assure that all retailers have the
opportunity to receive their
Deep Space Nine Starter and Expansion Set orders in time for
the same
International release date.
This change is as disappointing to us as we know it is for
you. The production and
distribution processes are each composed of several distinct
steps. When any
one part of these processes is disrupted, the entire release
is affected. We are
sorry for the concern this causes to our loyal players,
collectors and retailers.
The cards of the expansion will thus become tournament legal
and regional
qualifier legal July 22, 1998.
Decipher will fulfill its promise to deliver an exciting and
well-designed expansion
of 276 cards, sold in both 60-card starter decks (12 per
display) and 9-card
booster packs (30 per display). Initial reports of the set
from the July 4 pre-release
tournament at Origins are good. "Spectacular cards" and
"very balanced, very
playable starter decks," are just two of the remarks we've
received that comment
favorably on the set's integrity and execution in play.
We'll continue to reveal the
cards through the Web site so that you are prepared to take
the cards and
integrate them into your Star Trek Customizable Card Game
deck designs.
Again, we apologize for this inconvenience. Thank you for
your patience, your
understanding and your support.

I was sitting on the floor organizing some odd sized cards..finally got
some pages that WORK) and thought about how much fun it is to have a
card collection, but is also fun to SHARE your collection with someone
who understands and appreciates your collection! Not looking for envy or
oooooo I hate you cause you got that sort of thing, just people
slobbering over cool cards.....there's nobody 'round here to do that
with and my mother, though tolerant...well.....heheheee
SO, once a week, I am going to post a message it will have CARD SET CHAT
in the subject, (that way you can ignore it if you chose!) If you are so
inclined, grab your binder, look up the set and jump in about what you
like about the set!!! If you don't have the set yet, comment anyway on
perhaps what is holding you back...would you take a lower grade set just
to have it or whatever you think. I am going to use the complete card
checklist as my guide for this tour. It could be silly bavvle or a lot
of fun, not sure, but I've walked out on slimmer limbs before....;)
I will post this today (sunday), but from now on, will post the inital
message on Monday, we can chat for a few days or whatever on that
particular set.
*****************
TODAY'S SET: 67 LEAF set
Well, I can open a binder, but it ain't full.....;)
I have being collecting this set for a couple of years little by little.
I decided to settle for a EX+ set, so I tolerate pretty much anything
but creases, bends or really wicked gum stains. I bought a display box,
it was 'cheap' since it had writing on the bottom, some kid's name...;)
I have SOLD for others two NM sets, that were beautiful, really hard to
let go of, but man, that's alot of $$$$. The scens and backs are pretty
freaky. I would ADORE to finally find someone who knows all about how
this set was made.......
I don't collect any of the reprint sets. I wouldnt mind having a set for
informational reasons or to see what they all look like, but not to
*collect*. I suuuur would love to know if the euro set was really from
67, though!
I wonder if there would be a way to make cards like the US set, with the
white gray white stock like they did for that set and then make a MINT
selling MINT sets....;) Makes me nervous to think about!
Is this set the 'god' of all sets or is there something you would
consider more awesome in your collection??

at the grand slam in pasadena in 97... to $125 at another
table at the same convention... the latter was a little old
lady who thought everything she had was gold.. and i even
offered to sell her one for $50... id have bought the first one

hoping that id have more money to spend on other sets
that i saw there... now i wish i could find that set again..
for $25.. but then.. i dont go to many conventions anymore
and i am not near pasadena... im hoping to go to the 99

Anyone know anything about these figures? SOmeone wrote asking for
inf/value, but if it ain't a card.......
I bought 9 4" plastic figures of STNG characters, from the T.V. show, I
believe. They are of Deanna Troi, Data, Worf, Capt. Picard, Ferengi
w/whip,
Klingon, Andorian, Borg and "Q". On the bottom of each one it says
"Hamilton Gifts Authorized User".
and "1992" except for the Andorian which has "1991" and "Hamilton
Authorized
User". All made in China.

I have purchased them as low as $1 each. And as high as $4 each. I find
them to be quite common. There are TOS and TNG figures. I have 19
diffrent figures and 2 ships. There "value" is like anything else.
Depends on what someone would want to pay for one. I,m down to a $1 :)
I told lynne about these when i was on vacation in the smokey mountains
2 years ago. They were availible in most every gift store we went into.
Remember?

At this time. I find it to be a novility. I only have 1 Leaf card. #47
And i got it for free. Twas a gift from kevin dobbins. I met him a few
months ago. A very nice person BTW.
I have had a fleeting intrest in leaf cards. They honsetly dont intrest
me too much. Sure it's the first set ever produced and the first set
listed in the price guide. But I'm not going to pay $20 a card to put an
"ok" leaf set together. I,m having a hard enough time puting $300
together for a single rare "mint" autograph card from the new TOS series
of cards. ;)
I think the most "awesome" card or card set is something like a rare
promo or chase card that you worked hard to get. Or a lucky pull. For me
it's been my $15 1993 masterseries promo sheet of 6 Cards from a
National Sports Convention.
http://www.super-highway.net/users/capcom/93masterseries.html.
And my A31. :)
Too cool.

I admit, it's a nice chunk of change and you would still end up with a
non-mint set, but to have a set produced while the series was still in
production is pretty narly!Someon was telling me (and I am inclined to
believe him, though I scoff at some 'attic stories' ) that a full box sold
awhile back for $70,000 worth of other cards that he collected. That he had
bought upt a store's inventory and that was one of them and he was clueless
as to what it was...CAN YOU IMAGINE! When I am really bored with nothing
better to do, I dream for the day someone thtrusts a box in my hands and
says..'here dear, I've had this forever and I hear you like ST'
wahahahaha..sick, huh??!!
I recall an auctionne where one was sold for $25,000...came out on stage in
a velvet glass box.
And I wanna know who knocked over the server last night....;) It fell down
and went boom, I figure there musta been a run on the Voyager images I
posted last night......

Away Team Packs In Demand:
How You Can Get A Pack
Since the announcement of the preview of the Away Team pack of premium
cards, Star Trek Customizable Card Game's Marcus Certa (The Emissary)
and
Kyle Heuer (The Traveler) have received a multitude of player email
messages asking how they can get their own Away Team pack containing The
Traveler and The Emissary cards.
Hey, it's nice to be wanted! Here is our plan for the next few months,
outlining several ways in which you wil be able to get hold of them.
When
they are known, we're mentioning specific dates.
Preview Period May 8-June 11
Beginning May 8, Marcus and Kyle will personally distribute Away Team
packs through their personal appearances at Cons, gaming events and
tournaments. Since the initial demand for the cards is great, please
respect that The Emissary and The Traveler must limit distribution to
one
pack per person. Check the Star Trek CCG experts' tour schedules. Note:
Away Team cards are not tournament legal in sanctioned events during the
preview period.
June 12 & 13
Decipher will introduce the Away Team card pack to sanctioned tournament
play through a worldwide series of Star Trek CCG tournaments (Official
Tournament Sealed Deck format), June 12 & 13. Plenty of notice will be
given here on the Decipher Web site, with a special page devoted to the
list of events. At
these tournaments, which will be directed by a Star Trek CCG
Ambassador,
a limited number of cards will be available for distribution to players
(one pack per person). As with other Decipher special focus tournaments,
pre-registration will be your best bet. The Away Team cards will become
tournament legal for all Star Trek CCG players June 12.
After June 12
An upcoming issue of Scrye magazine will contain the Away Team pack in a
special insert. We do not have exact details of when this issue will be
available but it will be sometime in the summer.
We will also offer these cards as a mail-in for a limited period of
time,
beginning sometime in the summer ( as we have done from time to time
with
the Star Wars CCG Rebel Leader cards).
The distribution of the Away Team packs will not be limited to North
America.
Please, do not email or call Decipher asking that the cards be sent to
you. The mail-in offer has not started yet. We will broadcast new
information as it is known.

The current issue of SCRYE is the one with the away team pack in it. It has
DS9 on the cover. I just thought you would all like to know that :-)

I know you're referring to a commercially produced game, but there's been a
fan-produced one around for years, based on TOS. I have one

It is going to be a board game based on TNG, it is schedualed for release in
Sept. THey are to send me some ad slicks in August.
They may make more for other series...I want a combined one!!!
As a dealer, I can order and sell these, happily delivered to your doorstep
as soon as they are released.
However, unlike any other company I have dealt with, I am obliged to sell at
retail??/!!!!
I have never had that restriction put upon me and it gives me pause...the
profit margin is such, I would never have charged that much myself and where
I would likely have done it, I am reluctant to do so now...any opinions? If
I am required to offer retail, why wold some one buy from me vs the store
down the street?

You HAVE to??? I've never heard of that either. Sounds like they are
trying to protect the selling price so the full retail stores don't suffer.
If I had the choice of buying local or mailorder at the same price I'd pick
local. I'd have to pay sales tax but I would save the shipping and I
wouldn't have to wait for my item. Sounds like a bum deal.

That's what it sounds like as well. I mean, my gracious!! And one thinks there
may be ways around it, but......

THe only difference I can see is if I can work out a deal to get them early or
something or maybe offer 'free' shipping, then the total cost would be
less....still considering the upfront cost and the likliehood it is not a limited
product....

I was thinking more along the lines of different races. Here's some quick
ideas that passed between my ears.
Game pieces (ships):
Federation (Constitution class, Galaxy class, DS9, Defiant, Voyager)
(Lots of good Federation ships)
Klingon (Battlecruiser, Bird of Prey, Vor'cha)
Romulan (Bird of Prey or Warbird)
Ferengi (Marauder)
Cardassian (Galor class)
Borg (Cube of course)
Dominion.
Replace Go with Warp
Replace properties with Planets. (Earth, Vulcan, Risa, Bajor, etc.)
Replace railroads with Quadrands (Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma)
Replace Electric Co. with Holodeck (pay owner for use)
Replace Waterworks with Wormhole (pay owner for use)
Replace Jail with Quaranteen Zone
Replace Free Parking with Neutral Zone
Replace Chance cards with Q-Cards
Replace Community Chest cards with StarFleet Communication cards.
Q and StarFleet cards have thousands of possibilities. Just a few quick
ideas:
Encounter Terrelian Plaque ship - Go to Quaranteen zone (jail).
Build Bajoran Sailing Vessel - Warp to Neutral Zone (Free parking)
Make deal with dilithium miners - Collect $$$
Lose poker hand - Pay every other player $$$
Time to Relax! - Move immediately to Risa.
Jamaharon - Buy a Horga'hn for $$$

:snicker: :snort: hehehehhee
I adore profit, just not sure why someone would buy from me rather then
locally. The advantage the Internet has over local is cost, if I can offer
a better price, then you will buy from me, the disadvantage is TIME. One
must wait. If better price wins over cost, I will get business. If price
is the same and you have to wait for the product then I can't offer much.
I mean, good looks and personality will just go soooooo far!

Since I've never SEEN you, I don't know about the "good looks" (you
don't even have a picture on your web site). And, I'm smart enough
NOT to comment on "personality." :-)
In seriousness, you can offer free shipping, which should give you a
small cost advantage. I assume that the manufacturer doesn't dictate
shipping costs! You can also offer convenience--one doesn't have to
go out looking for one--it comes straight to their door. Off hand, I
can't think of any other benefits you can have--unless some sort of
"promo" is allowed (eg. "free" bonus items or discount coupons for
future purchases).

Just my 2 cents, but a manufacturer telling a dealer what price to use
sounds like "price fixing" to me and, last I heard, that's illegal. It's
pretty obvious to me what's going on, here. The retailers are putting
pressure on the manufacturer to kill the Internet dealer's competitive
advantage. They resent the fact that you have lower overhead and can reach
a targeted audience at a lower cost than their expensive shotgun
advertising, so they are looking for another way to make the playing field
even. Do you know a lawyer you could ask about the "price fixing thing?

My own spam filters gonna lock me out, I just know it...all caps...!!!!,
it hates that...;)
Now, here's a set..you guys wanna even imagine what would happen if
Sybox ever got the idea to have a set based one ONE EPSIODE??? 79
different sets for TOS ALONE...wahahahaha!
I wonder what the drive was to publish a set based on one episode...;)
(what are little girls made of)
Someone once said the set came out prior to the series being shown in
England, I havent been able to verify that, but :snicker: ya gotta
wonder about the mentality of the person who inked that deal....;)
Course ever since that NUS article a year or so ago, I cant look at card
#33 the same way again.....
This set has recently gotten really popular all of a sudden. Where it
used to be $700 or so for a set, ebay has had a few go for easily over
$1000-$1200!!!!!
 TIme for bed!

Looks like there are some 'bonuses with the DS9 set.....
a WB Defiant card that is a preview of the cominion set....
from: Jarrod Meyer - Maple Grove, Minnesota
Q: So just how rare is the Defiant?
A: The white border USS Defiant does not have a specific
rarity. The card is preview card as designated by the special
icon as seen on the Away Team cards and sealed deck premium
cards. It should randomly appear roughly one half as
often as any other rare card.
rom: Lee Jamilkowski - Bethesda, Maryland
Q: Does the Defiant come in only expansion packs, or can it be
found in starter boxes also?
A: The USS Defiant will only be found in expansion packs.
Q: Why did you decide to include the Defiant as a card within the set,
and why make it WB promotional, rather than
simply a surprise within the set with the DS9 icon.
A: The USS Defiant is not a part of this set. When the
decision was made that the Defiant would be in the Dominion
expansion, we realized that players and collectors wanted to
see the Defiant. So with that, we wanted to give you a
preview of what was in store.
Sorry, bable for the Decipher web page live forum!
Lynne
Q: What are the future plans for the Defiant card?
A: It will be a black border rare card within the Dominion
expansion. It will have the same rarity as all other rare cards in
the Dominion set.

The booster packs have a WB Defiant card. This is a preview card for

There is a CCG checklist avialable for printing out or whatever here:

the rare version is the one on TNG card in yellow uniform with a tear
in the chest/shoulder (this is an obvious repaint of the first riker
released)...the non rare thomas is the one carded on the Deep space nine
cardback. The american version is not common on the TNG cardback. I have
no Idea about the canadian version...is it on a TNG or DSN cardback?
I will assume a bi/trilingual card. You may be seeing the two versions
of canadian and US thomas....one TNG one DSN.

I would assume the DSN version, in either language is less expensive.
I would assume the TNG version, in either language is more expensive.
If you see a TNG carded thomas riker(american) for $60 ...snap it up...
is my advice.....the canadian version...hmmm......really not a market
in the normal US groups ...etc... so buy one for completeness if you must.
I would not get a canadian version for trade.
Hope this helps.

Gordon Currie set...how many people have this set.....
I didn't up until a month ago.....thse sets seem awful common and bright
crisp and clean to be set from 1968???!!!!
I was at one place that had a BIN full of them! Wouldnt it be awesome if
the AB and C and Leaf kept as well as this and were as common????
Oddball cards........how serious to you go into these? I mean there are
levels.....
and to each his own, goodness knows I haven't found MY limit yet.....
only Skybox oddball issue...only Trek oddball issue///only actors from
Trek oddball issue...
I collect all but the last catagory..I do NOT go out of my way to
collect trek actors cards from other series or shows or
whatever....except that Hollywood Walk of Fame set..The odder the
better...that Mardi Gras set...coooooool.......I adore the satire Trek
cards...the funny ones.....every time I think I know all the cards out
there, I get another surprise!!
What is your favorite 'kind' of Trek card (stype of whatever) My
favorite theme in both cards and non-card collectibles is ships and
captains, I adore things with all the ships and captains on them!!!

My working rule of thumb on oddball cards is:
Anything with a regular character
Anything else with anyone who appeared on Star Trek if I can find the
card and the price is not too high.
Once I realized Teri Hatcher had been in one episode of TNG, I gave up
the idea of going after every card with anyone who had ever appeared on
any episode.

Yes, I know it's only the TNG cardback that's rare; I'm trying to find out
whether it's the American (English only text) or the Canadian (English and
French text) that's the more valuable.

Not according to te dealers; the ones selling the American on say it's

Well, I guess that's the real question, then. If a particular action
figure has no greater value if Canadian rather tan American, is it also
worth no LESS, making both versions vauable? Anybody read anything
definitive on this?

well... it is subjective...and speculative at most. The way I have seen it
work...if you live in another country...you pref the multi language card
backs. If you live in the US...you pref the US version. The two really don't
meet. If you ask the UK collectors I am sure the canadian card would net
you more. It is tough to collect all the AF's in more than one type of
card back. $$ is the usual reason. hmmm...I doubt any more or less of
the canadian version exist, than the US counter part. The reason they
charge more is because the multi language version is shipped to several
counties...yes, I know the other countries markets are not as large and
you can ship fewer...but it remains...a production numbers verses the
distribution factors....perhaps a call to the manufacturer to inquire...
Not according to te dealers; the ones selling the American on say it's

Yes, I am sure......let me know what you find out. Having seen the
fall out of multi language cards in the star wars line...I can only
offer opion.
Well, I guess that's the real question, then. If a particular action
figure has no greater value if Canadian rather tan American, is it also

nope...good luck. again it seems to be subjective.....

That helps, too! i find myself narrowing my 'rules' if theitem I am drooling
over is expensive...justfying it.....or broadening it if it's cheap and I
figure what the heck...;)

And, while we're on the subject of DS9, can anyone supply me with a copy of
the episode, "Beyond the Farthest Star" or "Far Beyond the Stars" -
apparently, there's some confusion over the final title. This is the
episode were Ben Sisko suddenly finds himself on earth in the 1950's,
employed as a sci-fi pulp writer.
I saw this ep on first-run, planning to tape the weekend rerun. They idn't
rerun it. When they finally reran it for the summer, I was out of town.
I gotta get a hi-res copy of this episode, highest quality possible - I'll
pay all costs associated with getting it to me.

I have added a bunch of 'little' things to the auctionne. Problem with
little things is I never wrote them down to put into the changes
file..;)
Anyway, I have tried reallly hard to update and make current the PGC
page and the complete cards page. Please stop by and check them out. I
have a Kirk ATT phone card, 15 minutes, still active for a random winner
out of all people who point out problem,s inaccuracies, stupid mistakes
or downright missing info on the two above lists!!
I am sending this note to Trekchat as well, in case there are people not
on my newsletter list who many want to be in the contest! (I know that
means some poeple get this note twice.. to avoid that, I likely won't
send a copy to trekchat in the future....J!m is always looing for things
to pick on me about, not sense HANDING him the bullet....hehehehee )
In the next few days, I am going to catagorize the complete card
listed..either chronologically or by catagories or SOMETHING, it's a bit
haphazard right now and there are a few duplicate entries... anyone with
an opinion on how they would like to see the list organized, just yell!!

Me, too, but I didn't say anything because it didn't seem right. Seems
like it would be trumpeting the TNG pisodes, if anything, but I think
Trent's right.

I was wondering the same thing myself just a couple days ago. I have that
card in with my Master Series 2 set but don't remember why. I started to
check it out and I've come up with a few things to consider on this card.
Personally I don't know for sure where it came from as I had to purchase it
for my collection.
To start with, the title of the card... "The Future Arrives in 1994", would
make you assume this card came out towards the end of 1993 or very early
1994. My own guess, based on the copyright notice on the back of the card,
would be 1994.

Both DS9 sets (Premier and 100 card set) came out in 1993 and both sets
have 1993 copyright dates on the cards. The "Future Arrives in 1994"
carries a copyright of 1994. Why would they include a 1994 card in a set
released in the fall of 1993? One thing going for the DS9 100 card set is
that it didn't have a Survey card, so maybe this was it. Did the DS9 set
get released late? (like Skybox would ever do that to us huh?)
Jeff said...

Season One is copyright 1994 so that works, but on the back of this card it
says:
Coming From Skybox in 1994
SPRING: Star Trek: The Next Generation Episode Collection Season 1
The Making of Star Trek: The Next Generation
SUMMER: Skybox Master Series II - Star Trek
FALL: Star Trek: The Motion Picture, II, III, IV, V, VI
Early 1995: Star Trek VII
So why would they insert a card advertising STNG Season 1 and Master Series
II in with either of those sets it was promoting? Also, Master Series II
had a Survey card already.

It does? Where? I'm looking at the Aug-Sep 1998 issue and I don't see it
listed. Which listed item are you looking at as I have every card listed
under DS9 and MS 1994 (except the DS9 promo with an orange bar on the
back?) and the Future Arrives card does not have an orange bar.

I have lists people have sent me.....I have only looked through one and it
lists this card with two sets..MS II and Ep I
In the 3 card panel promo for Ep One....there is a larger version of the
promo......no surver info....that is seperate on the bigger (less glossy......)
version.
NSU promo list that I helped with lists it under misc, not with any set...
Another list shows it only under episode one....
I didn't open a box so can't tell for sure, those who DID open a box..of MS I
II or Ep One, might be more suited to this discussion???

I am also looking at the Aug/Sept NSU Price Guide. I see what confused me.
Under both of those sets, the first entry says
(Skybox/1994) card, and then a price. Now I realize the first part just tells
us ithey are Skybox sets issued in 1994. Then "card" refers to the price for a
common single. At my earlier glance, I thought this meant the Coming from
Skybox in 1994 card. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

OK, I thought I might be going blind or something. I just noticed that NSU
lists the DS9 set as Skybox 1994 but the cards are copyright 1993 and it
was scheduled for release November of 1993. Does anyone remember if it was
delayed?

I agree..it could have been menat for a different release or situation, but
didn't get made in time...
the one thing they mentioned about survey cards is they were a space
filler...maybe they had more space and since that card existed in theother
format (for the ep 3 promo panek, though larger, it was easy to reuse those
graphics to make a quick card?

I think there was a slight delay; either way, they were produced
and cut in 1993. Hey, you know Skybox and their delays :)
