Greetings!
This is my first post to TrekChat and I apologize that it is of such a
weighty matter...
I wish to file a charge with the Official Board of Star Trek Geeks. The
charge is against:
LYNNE STEWART
The nature of the charge is for:
UNFAIR CONTEST PRACTICES
Prosecuter's case: Some time ago, Lynne was having problems with the
operation of her Star Trek auction. She offered a prize by drawing to any
people who could help her track down and fix those problems. I informed
Lynne that the auction was FULL of spelling errors. She loaded my computer
with a line of galactic garbage and stated that this did not count because
her auction ALWAYS has spelling errors (I should also file a charge against
Lynne for first degree assault on my poor computer, but I don't want to
make this too complicated for the Official Board of Star Trek Geeks).
If the verdict is guilty, I demand the following corporal punishment:
24 HOURS WITH A MALE FERENGI
This means Lynne will have to rub his ears all day, chew his food and...
uh... well... abide by the female dress code.
Prosecution rests its case.
:)
P.S. Jeff Jacob taught me how fun it was to pick on Lynne.

If it please the Court; I submit that requesting and then expecting that
Lynne's Auction be free of spelling errors is akin to expecting Klingons to
begin adopting Tribbles; like waiting for Picard to make a decision without
a meeting in the conference room, first; similar to hoping for a discount
from Quark;exactly like thinking Chakotay will start to act.
IOW, these charges are not based in any reality known to man. We cannot
expect the kangaroo to fly or the Republican to lie down with the Democrat,
unless he has a Gold Card. Moreover, it is unfair to make demands
regarding spelling, grammar or any other of the more salient qualities of
communication on a blonde! What's the matter with you people? I'm out of
order?... YOU'RE OUT OF ORDER; THIS WHOLE COURT IS OUT OF ORDER!!! No
sooner do I get myself out, and they pull me *right* back in again..
(Whoops, wrong movie!) - AS YOU WERE!

I was wandering through ebay this AM and saw someone auctionning off 10
quantities of an item not even out yet...their title called it a
PRESALE. Items due to be out end of august....is that allowed????? How
can you auction a product they don't have in your hands?

My Vegas ST Experience
We got into the Hilton and after a short rest period I dashed
everyone off to the ST Experience. THe first thing we were hit with
was Michelle, out youngest was too small to enter. The ride has a
height restriction. Unlike many of the other hotels, the LV Hilton
is very unfriendly to children. There were no areas to leave them (like
the MGM Grand has a babysitting service) Michelle doesn't adapt
to change and seperation real well and within an hour of our arrival
I had one crying child and one angry husnband who left while Kristen
and I went in...serious jet lag caused me to demand a manager and
express my dismay that they had made a situation that forced famliies
to seperate. Their response was there were many family oriented places
in LV, the implication was the ST Expeirence wasnt one of them.
After entering the line you wind your way though lots of displays..
costumes, props, sections on all the aliens, races, etc. Here we hit
our second snag...most of the plaques are behind the glass on a wall
and with my vision diffuculties, I wasn't able to read them. James
usually helps and .of course, he wasn't there. So, I was left
clueless. I had worked myself up into a real good snit at this point
which was totally erased by the RIDE. Between the **** is a spoiler.
Nothing past the story, though
Quark's bar was CUTE. James TEA Kirk Fisherman's WORF...CheeseBORGER
I had a Sarium Brandy. Tasted awful, I don't drink anyway, but I
HAD to try it!!! I thought the food there was one of the better meals
we had had and not too expensive. THey bring you a 'damage report'
(your bill) at the end of the meal....:snicker: What bummed James
and I was they should have had like a data padd with Internet access
at allthe tables or something.
THere was two stores...one was a Hamilton/Hallmark type store,
the other had all sorts of merchandise, but nothing really unique...
figures, videos clothes..standard collectible fare. I intentionaly
didn't bring any ST t-shirts with me to not be too geeky, but by
day two I had one....a shirt with the four captians and their ships
which is my favorite collectible theme. They had a place to get your
picture taken and morphed with some trek scenes....there was one
other dor, but I couldnt tell if it lead anywhere..it was fancy, but
always closed and the day we were there it had a guard in front of
it...
I likely forgot some things......
**********************
You enter a room and are stood in lines, A guide is telling you about
the
simulation. Halfway into his speech, the lights go out, noise, bright
lights, gusts of winds...etc. When the the lights come on, you are
standing on the transporter pads where you are told, the Kingon's have
kidnapped this group of people, but they intercepted the transport.
You are now in the 24th century on the Enterprise. THey take you
down some corridors, into a turbolift and onto the BRIDGE...realistic,
big, it was like being tere..way cool. On the viewscreen, Riker and
Geordi tell you that one of the crowd is an ancestor of Picard
and by interfering with the lineline, Picard as disappeared. They
must get you back to the past, so Picard can live again.
You are now put into a tubolift, which goes crazy, drops and shakes....
then put onto a shuttlecraft. You are told Geordi will lead you in
another shuttlecradt and take you through the temporal rift. The
shuttcraft has a screen which is one of those IMAX things...you then
enter a 3-d thingie that is awesome...swerving in and out of the
Enterprise-D nacelles...over the saucer section, being shot at by
klingons...it must have been romulons, we are friends with Klingons...
but I swear it was Klingons.....anyway, you enter a nebua, zip past
all sort of cool things, swooping right and left, then you enter the
rift and are back in 1998 in LAs Vegas, you swoop around town, see
all the casinos..then you get caught in a tractor beam....you're
being drawn into the ship...when the Enterprise_D swoops down and
BLASTS them, riker saves the day! They crash you into the LV Hilton
sign and set you down where you started the simulation..Picard gets on
the speaker thanking you for restoring the timeline....then the shuttle
craft door opens revealing an annoyed maintnece worker who wants to know
what you are doing one floor down form where you should be and who has
been playing iwth the buttons????? THey lead you back upstairs into....
all the stores and Quark's bar and the sim ends....

...as long as he is sure that he will have the items when it comes
time to deliver.. there shouldnt be any harm...
of course if he cant deliver for any reason.. then i think there should
be some sort of consequences... possibly even removal from ebay..
but knowing ebay.. thats unlikely even in the most extreme cases..
they dont seem to wish to accept any responsibility for the people
who use the service.. and very seldom do anything for people who
complain one way or the other...
an interesting article was recently published on the home page of
the wrapper... discussing ebay and its merits and fall backs...
the author seemed to have a firm grasp on all things ebay..
and was quite aware of what was going on out there...
i dont know if its still available to be read or not.. but if that is
possible
i would recommend that yall read it.. an interesting perspective i must
say...
they may offer the ability to read past articles that have appeared on
the page.. i dont know...
also... the items that are supposedly not out yet could have leaked
out or been advanced or stolen etc.. and this person may have gotten
ahold of such merchandise.. while this is unlikely its certainly
possible.. as i have seen...
it happens mostly in the music business.. with advanced pressings of
cds and lps.. etc.. while it is true that the card industry is a bit
different.
its probably not all that different when u get down to it...
we all tend to like to believe that there is only honesty out there and
prefer to rest in our comfortable personal worlds.. where evil things dont
happen and no one involved in anything we are involved in could possibly
do anything underhanded..
im not saying that this vendor got his stuff.. in fact u even mention
that he doesnt.. and most likely thats true.. but the possibility is there
still that he does.. but he may be calling it an advance sale to redirect
attention from that which u have caught...
just my opinion.. or some possible ideas that ur note here prompted..
bye the way.. anyone else upset about the card stock used in the
forthcoming voyager profiles set??? the promo that was in collect
and non sports card update looks nice.. but so thin!!! and cheap..
and whose horrible idea was it to include the new 9th movie cards
along with the 7th season cards in the same packs... ???
that is annoying.. i wanted it to be neat.. and simple.. and separate.
now lets wonder if there will be a set of cards for the 40 minute
imax 3D movie that is supposedly on the tables now...
i would love a set of 3D cards like the 63 card widevision star
wars set.. that came out in 96... that would be wonderful...

I still envy you--even with the problems you had. I did NOT read the
spoiler as I will be going in less than TWO months! I do have a
couple of questions:
1. What is the minimum height--I'm bringing MY family?
2. I want to confirm that the LV Hilton is near where we are staying
(Circus, Circus). I believe that the Hilton is essentially next to
the convention center and behind the Riviera. The Riviera is across
the street from Circus, Circus. Am I correct?
Thanks!
- --Bob
BTW, Circus, Circus is quite family friendly--indoor circus acts,
indoor amusement park. Even rooms cheap enough that we booked
two--one for us and one for the kids!

I think several people ahve expressed that furstration. From what I understand
the 7th series was canceled....the episode sets have done poorly each time to
the extent deason VI was a bust and this set was done as a concession to the
collectors who they knew would be disappointed not to finish the
series......not sure if we would prefer NO series 7 or this way??!!!

Am I reading this right? The STTNG 7th season eps card packs will also
have STFC cards in them? Does that mean that, whether I want to or not,
I'll be collecting 2 different sets at once? Also, does it mean that 7th
season Eps cards are out in boxes and packs NOW?

not First COntact, whatever movie card is due out this year will be in this
set. And, yes, they will be intertwined, but not sure how yet.

THe only thing I know for sure is it will be regualr sized. I am sure after they
get Voyager in the bag, they will have more time to work on it.

This may seem a bit wierd, but I've seen it done with sports sets too.
There's so much hype related to a particular product that people get worked
up into a froth about it, and the price triples before it's even released.
In most cases, however, I would suspect that price-jacking on presales is
an attempt to take advantage of the consumer before they have a sense of
what the going rate is.

Here is a bit of a breakdown for Voyager Profiles
auto cards 1 per box. Skyu box feels a case of 20 would net a set of
them
Make-up artist cards 1:4
Alien Tech 1:6
7 of 9 insert sets 1:8 with the 7th card as a mirror type 1:144 packs (4
boxes)
Captain's cards 1:720 This card is a palstic card overlayed with
cardboard..the cardboard has Janeway and some of the side designs, the
plastic underlay has the ship and starfield...this is a set of 4...well,
this series has C4, the others we will see later.
Y is the rare contest card..in the Phrase "Star Trek Voyager"
Does anyone know if something cool happens to 7 of 9 next season?
Patrick Stewart will be signing for a card set..not sure if it is the
movie set or the biggie they want to do next year...

Other Information:
The Hansen's by Starfleet standards were wanderers and explorers, always
wanting to seek out strange new worlds. In the late 2330's, the
Hansen's set off from the Omega Sector on board the USS Raven. It is
believed that the ship was equipped with a new type of warp drive which
allowed them to travel to the Delta Quadrant in a very small period of
time.
On her six birthday, Annika and her parents became the first humans to
ever be assimilated by the Borg. At that point, Annika Hansen became
Seven of Nine.

I did go actually! I had a blast. I did not however stand in the autograph
line for Jeri Ryan though. It was quite super huge and I didn't want to
wait the 5 hours her line was taking only to get cut off at the end :-)
Anyway, I did however make it to the finals for the Babylon 5 CCG! They
brought Claudia Christian down to meet all of us while we were playing our
final game. (Claudia plays Susan Ivanova on B5 by the way). I had a great
time and I am planning on attending next year...

Greetings!
I couldn't sleep last night, so I came up with this. Hope it at least
makes you smile.
CERTAIN OFFENSIVE NOTIONS ARE MADE IN THE LITERATURE BELOW. VIEWER
DISCRETION IS ADVISED.
Top 10 reasons why we don't want Lindsay Wagner playing the role of Captain
Janeway
NOTE: L. Wagner was the original choice for Janeway, but the actress backed
out and Kate Mulgrew got the part.
10. We would be spending a large amount of time watching the Captain run
around in slow motion.
9. Janeway would be spending the majority of her time in sickbay because
some bionic component in her body is always shorting out.
8. With Janeway in sickbay most of the time, we would be seeing more of
Chakotay doing absolutely nothing.
7. Instead of using the cool phasers to take out the bad guys, Janeway
would simply throw them against a bulkhead - 30 feet away.
6. Instead of using the cool transporter to beam down to a planet, Janeway
would jump out an airlock.
5. B'Elanna would be spending the majority of her time repairing the torn
walls and windows that the captain smashes through.
4. We would NEVER see the shuttlecrafts because Janeway can run faster
than they would fly.
3. Janeway would only have romantic relationships with people who are also
part machine (in other words, 7 of 9).
2. Are you sure you want a blonde in command of your ship when your 60,000
light years from the nearest help? (Ask Jeff about this one)
And the number one reason....
1. Star Trek: Voyager would be R - rated because Janeway would be
frequently overhearing Paris and B'Elanna talking filthy - on the other
side of the saucer section (ask Vince about this one).

A blond could not see the viewscreen. There would be little lines
running thru the viewscreen affecting the captains stigma. And she would
keep forgetting things like updating her logs and confirming recipt of
of latinum. She wouldnt be able to spell correctly too. ;-)

I am well aware of what they will spell out..I mentioned it myself in the
posting from yesterday. I
was speaking of the challenge letter card will not mean anything in
relation to the card..for example the I card was an insignia and the V
card showed a Vulcan, the E card an image of the Enterprise.....with
Voyager, the images and the letter's aren't associated with each
other..the Y card is 7 of 9, the V card is Janeway....

Here's a topic to chew on...
auctions. friends cards
What do a bunch of collector's do when we are all collecting the same
thing and we are all friends? Do we defer to whoever found it first or
fight each other bloody until the one with the mostest bucks wins? Do we
take turns? I have ha dfriends back away from items I was bidding on and
I have backed away from others as well......is there a good solution to
all this. James has been one me for weeks to address this issue...he
gets so tired of scrolling thtough ebay with me and find something cool,
but me say, nah, I can't bid on that, so and so is bidding. He feels
it's every bidder for themselves. In many cases patience wins and the
items will show up again later, though there are a few collectors who
are down to needing items that come up so infrequently that not bidding
is HARD.
I am interested in hearing some opinions!

Not that I do bid alot, but I thought using anonymous bidder
names (or combinations of letters/numbers) was going to solve this
issue from way back when you were doing this via email? Maybe you
should go back to (or do now) some kind of random letter/number
system that doesn't allow for identity... that way, people can
feel free to bid as they please and not worry about stepping on
others' toes.
At least, that's how I see it. Some, I'm sure, see it
differently ;)

It seems to me that there are two ways to approach this problem.
1. THE KIRK APPROACH: If there are 4 or more of you competing, then it
seems to me that the only way to really solve the problem is to bid
normally and let the guy with the most latinum win. (AKA the Capitalist or
"Darwinian" approach. The bidder who is most fit to win, will win. And the
one who is most "fit" is the person who (a) has the most money, and (b)
wants it most.)
2. THE PICARD APPROACH: If there are only 2 or 3 of you competing for an
item, and there isn't much "outside" competition, then it doesn't serve
anyone's purpose to keep bidding. You're just running up the price.
However, if you agree by e-mail that bidder #1 gets the lot this time, and
bidder #2 gets it next time. Then, assuming the item eventually appears
again (iffy), everyone gets one at the lower price. However, it seems silly
for the 2 people with less money to just run up the price so that the
person with the most money (i.e. the "winner") has to pay more.
Personally, I'll use the Kirk approach every time no matter how many
friends are bidding. I'm such a cheapskate that one of the others will
probably win anyway. (And they should, if they want the lot that bad.)

Well, Lynne, as you know, I have MISSED the fact more than once that the
current high bidder is someone I know. I now try real hard to spot them,
but with eBay allowing "usernames" that may be different from "e-mail
addresses", it gets harder. In addition, I've found that, in the last
couple of minutes of an auction (especially if Net traffic is heavy), you
can bid against people you never even see. If you take the time to look in
those last few seconds, you lose by default.
Now, that said... I would love to see us come up with a way that woud
PREVENT me from gettin' carried away and bidding against friends. How will
we compile the "friends" list? What I mean is, do we avoid competing with
everyone on TrekChat, or TrekTrade, or anyone we know from ATN? That'll be
quite a list! =20
Still, I'm all for some sort of mechanism that maintains the good
relationships I have with the fine folks in all those areas (gettin' just a
mite deep, huh<G>?). Seriously, I do consider many of the people I've
traded with, bought from and sold to from those 3 groups to be friends.
At first glance, it might seem that taking turns would be a good idea,
except that I'm not sure how we could keep track. I mean, we hafta see
whose turn it is, but if the item is NOT of interest to that individual, we
go to the next person on the list, and so on... and so on... the auction
could be over before we figger out who's turn it is to bid<G>! =20
Here's a suggestion - and I mean JUST a suggestion: What about one person
(preferably someone who could monitor the auctions the most) bidding for
all those who want to be a part of "the collective" (pun intended). One
person does the bidding up to some predetermined value relative to book
prices or somesuch and, once the auction closes, the appointed bidder
contacts the Next person on the list to tell them what they've won. If,
for some reason, the winner no longer wants the item, then we go to the
next person in line, etc. Obviously, we'll all have to agree on how the
"appointed bidder" knows when to quit bidding. With eBay, this could be
accomplished by having the appointed bidder always searching eBay 4 or 5
days in advance. When s/he sees an item that fits our list, s/he contacts
the next person on the list for a max limit. This can be handled thru
e-Mail with enough time for the "appointed bidder" to do his/her thing and
get the goods, so to speak. Actually, in this scenario, we could just
select an "appointed searcher". who would simply alert the next person in
line to start bidding for themselves at the appearance of an appropriate
item. Naturally, the "appointed bidder" or "appointed searcher" should
change every so often so one person doesn't get stuck with all the work.
What does everyone else think?
LLAP
PS - Obviously, I've thought about this problem before and just never got
around to bringing it up. I'm glad Lynne did.

I completed my DS9 CCG set! I bought 3 booster boxes, 1 starter deck and

I'm still wondering, how does DS9 CCG compare to the original TNG CCG in
difficulty of compiling? I traded a lot of Galoob action figures for my
TNG set, so I didn't actually have to work for it.

These were GREAT! I wouldn't use them, but I loved reading them<G>. Let's
see what we get forthe "other" Captains:
3. THE SISKO APPROACH: Grab an orb with both hands, get together with the
Prophets and try to translate what they say you should do.
4. THE JANEWAY APPROACH: Argue with "7" for 20 minutes, sip tea with
Chakotay for 10 -12 minutes, ask Neelix and Tuvok what they think
(experience says they'll cancel each other out), tell Torres she's just too
hot-headed to have a good idea, explain it all to Kim in words a 3rd-grader
will understand and then tell Tom Paris to handle it.

I like the ferengi approach the best. He who hast the most latinum wins.
But there have been times where i have passed bidding on something
because someone else found and bidded on the item first. There will
always be another of the same item up for auction later. Thats a fact.
And more often than not you'll get it cheeper too. It's just a matter of
patience.

Yep, that's why I did it way back yon, too many times I was told someone
wanted to bid, but didn't want to bid cause so and so was bidding. In my
auction now since I don't handle all the transactions, the person's name and
address is available onscreem. So, that privacy issue is gone....
Ebay is one where it uses emailaddresses, it also uses ID;s but they aren't
private, you can look them up if you were so inclned, yes?

One other thing is not all of us collect the same things or are at the same
levels...I mean, it sounds like it would be really hard to not only keep track
of what areas everyone was interested in, but contacting people each and every
time. Your suggestion, though diplomatic would be a lot od time and energy
investment.

Well, obviously, I have the viewpoint of both bidder and consignor being
both
myself, though if I don't support the consignors there won't be an
auctionne to
BID on...;)Whether i would feel obliged to ban the policy, I
dunno......however,
obviously less competition, the less likely the rest will see lower
MB's.
People
will feel they need to set higher MB's to protect their items if their
only
gonna get one or two bids, so it could be counterproductive!

Well, I'd agree that it's a fact MOST OF THE TIME. Just suppose we saw
Gene Roddenberry's autograph up for auction. Yes, he has signed more than
one thing, but how long do you suppose it'll be before someone else who
bothered to get his autograph will be willing to part with it? Now, I see
it up for sale on eBay and Lynne is the current high bidder. Do I have a
problem? You BET I do<G>!! The same is true (for different reasons) for
some of the really old non-card items. I just recently acquired a 1st
series Spock Mego action figure, MOC (the card does NOT show Uhura's
portrait on it) from eBay. I've been monitoring eBay pretty closely since
last October and never noticed one before. Now, given that they average
about 2400 - 2600 Trek items every day, I'd say that's close to "never
being seen again", wouldn't you?
The only thing I'm trying to say is that using the Ferengi
Approach(tm-Curtis) is BOUND to ruffle some feathers among us, unless we
ALL agree that it's acceptable to each and every one of us.

What does everybody thing of good and bad traders lists?
I occassionaly get asked to offer references for people who wish to be
listed on them, I guess, but I have some concerns about these systems
and wondered what ya'll thought
I urge caution...The BAD in bad traders is easliy a personal
issue or preception.....to be a bad trader one must actually
have ripped someone off...misrepresentation, theft.
I place more stock in personel refs....what is the criteria
of a "bad" trader. Who died and made you boss? What research
did you do to verify the person is "BAD"?...etc...and if you try
to verify bad traders before putting them on the list...you
could get sucked into the original issue and end up spending
hour mediating arguments...
good luck
Chris

I had said once that I didn't want them to ask me for references since I
wasn't so sure I was approving of the process.
What worries me is what you say, it is all so subjective and everyone has
different levels before they consider someone a bad trader...and
personalities clash........

Therein lies the rub!! There are items theat we can all agree are reallllllly
few and far between. If we are talking new releases or whatever, first to spot
a mirror mccoy or whatever, I can see respecting our friends would be easier
then the oddball stuff. Is it mean to overbid people we know and though we
came here to collect, now we must deal with the fact we have friends AND
collecting....which is more valuable?Don't get me wrong, in a way I would love
to justify bidding on a rampage, just not sure what all that entails!

Does everyone collect ALL Trek or just some of the series..for example I
don't collect DS9, a friend of mine only collects TOS....
What does a collector do if they DON" collect DS9, but there are TNG
characters in the set? I regret having sold several sheets of a DS9
silver spectra card sheets a few years ago then decided I should have
kept one cause it DID have the Enterprise after all...;)

collect only what you want. The next VOY set out..I will buy 2 boxes

Lynne,
I guess we all have some limitations on our collections. For example, when
the Brent Spiner auto came out in the FC set, I didn't like that because it
was something that only people with big bucks would enjoy. And what about
children? So I decided not to collect ANY autos from any set.

I collect ALL Trek - even the Captain Calhoun New Frontiers card. I try to
draw the line at trading cards. I do not collect stickers or CCG cards. I
do get things like lottery cards and Hoyle cards since they are
inexpensive. For a while I was even seeking every card that featured
anybody who had ever been on any Star Trek episode. That ended when I
realized Teri Hatcher had been on one episode of TNG. So now I limit Trek
characters in non-Trek sets to regular characters, or at least recurring
characters.
I think I have a fairly extensive Trek collection, within those parameters,
but I am constantly amazed to discover something that fits within what I
collect and has existed for several years, and yet I never knew it existed.

I does both. There too cool not to have. Also there are only 6 diffrent
large skymotion cards to date. The question i have been trying to figure
out ever since the skymotion hit the market is: How do you clean the
back of a skymotion card with finger prints?

Well, NOW, I concentrate on anything Kirk (the Kirk shrine is coming along
quite nicely), any Trek autographs, most items made before 1980, all Mego
Trek and the ocassional new item that really catches my fancy. I even, on
very rare ocassions, go outside of Trek! I know, that's blasphemy, but I
do it<G>. Such as Elvira, Pee Wee, South Park (if it's really
inappropriate), that sorta thing. I've also recently gotten into
viewmasters, but I think I'm done with them already.

Greetings!
Does this kind of stuff belong on Trekchat? I got it from www.startrek.com.
Hollywood, August 21, 1998 - Paramount's Star Trek: Deep Space Nine the #1
first-run drama series in national syndication, has entered its seventh and
final
season. Joining the series for its last season is Canadian actress Nicole
deBoer,
whose addition makes her the first new character ever to join Star Trek:
Deep Space
Nine in the series' history. The seventh season premiere episode, entitled
"Image in
the Sand," marks de Boer's introduction as the young, exotic Starfleet
Ensign Ezri
Dax, who is the new host of a three hundred year-old symbiont previously in
the body
of Jadzia Dax (portrayed for six years by Terry Farrell). "Image in the
Sand," written
by Ira Steven Behr and Hans Beimler will air the week of September 28, 1998 in
national syndication.
"Like Star Trek: The Next Generation, we had always intended to tell the
story of
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in the span of seven years," states series
Creator/Executive Producer Rick Berman. "As we embark on the seventh and final
season, we look forward to the challenge of concluding this important
chapter in Star
Trek history." He further comments, "The new character Ezri Dax should add an
intriguing element to this final season. Her unexpected struggle to cope
with seven
newly acquired identities should bring us some fascinating story arcs, as
well as a
great deal of humor."
The seventh season premiere episode finds Sisko (series star Avery Brooks)
attempting to make sense of Jadzia Dax's death, as well as the fate of his
own future
(as seen in last season's finale episode "Tears of the Prophets," which
ranked as the
#1 first-run hour drama among all adults the week of its premiere June
15-22, 1998).
He receives a vision from the Prophets, who were believed to be dead, and
is led to
the discovery of a long help family secret.
As a former series regular on the Sci-Fi Channel series "Mission Genesis,"
Nicole
deBoer is no stranger to the world of science fiction. One of Canada's
leading young
actresses, deBoer recently completed work on the CBS-TV series "Dooley
Gardens,"
her fifth consecutive Canadian series. She can also be seen in the
soon-to-be-released feature film "Cube," winner of the Toronto Film
Festival Award
this past year.
For the 1997-98 season Star Trek: Deep Space Nine received six Emmy
nominations
and ranked as the third most nominated drama series on television, the only
syndicated series to garner such acclaim. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine shares
it's
third place ranking with "Chicago Hope" and "Homicide: Life on the
Streets." This
year, only "E.R.," "X-Files" and "NYPD Blue" had more Emmy nominations.
Since its premiere in January 1993, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine has garnered
four
Emmy Awards, 26 Emmy nominations and won numerous accolades, including two
Hugo Awards for "Outstanding Writing for a Television Series" (1995-96,
1996-97) and
the 1996 Screen Actors Guild for "Outstanding Portrayal of the American
Scene,"
which it shared with the other Star Trek series.
Continuing in the 32-year tradition of Star Trek, the seventh season of
Star Trek:
Deep Space Nine promises intrigue and suspense, feature film quality
special effects
and complex character development. The Emmy-Award winning syndicated drama
series stars: Avery Brooks as Captain Benjamin Sisko; Rene Auberjonois as
Chief of
Security Odo; Nicole deBoer as Ensign Ezri Dax; Michael Dorn as Lieutenant
Commander Work; Cirroc Lofton as Jake Sisko; Colm Meaney as Chief of Operation
Miles O'Brien; Armin Shimerman as the Ferengi, Quark; Alexander Siddig as Dr.
Julian Bashir and Nana Visitor as Colonel Kira Nerys.

A Return to Deep Space
Paramount recently issued a press release about season 7 of Star Trek: Deep
Space Nine. As expected, it contained virtually nothing that hasn't already
been reported. The seventh season premiere episode is entitled "Image in the
Sand," and introduces Canadian actress Nicole de Boer as the exotic Ensign
Ezri Dax, who is the new host of the three hundred year-old symbiant. Doesn't
that thing start to smell after a while? Image in the Sand will air the week
of September 28 in national syndication.
What's up Ben?
The seventh season premiere episode of Deep Space Nine finds Ben Sisko (Avery
Brooks) attempting to make sense of Jadzia Dax's death, which is what the rest
of us are trying to do as well. He receives a vision from the Prophets, who
were believed to be dead, and is led to the discovery of a long-held family
secret. Darth Vader is his father? I should mention that last season's final
episode "Tears of the Prophets" ranked as the #1 first-run hour drama among
all adults the week of its premiere June 15-22. Of course, most other shows
were in reruns.
Voyager in Free Fall
When Deep Space Nine completes its seven-year run, I'm not sure there will be
much left in the Star Trek Universe. Last Wednesday night, Star Trek: Voyager
slipped to its lowest-ratings ever, a 1.8/3 in households. This allowed the WB
network to achieve its highest Wednesday average since May. If there are any
shuttle craft remaining, now might be the time to abandon ship.
Voyaging On
If you are one of the few, like myself, who will be tuning in to the next
season of Voyager, here is what Executive Producer Brannon Braga says to look
for: More Paris and Torres romancing; Chakotay and Ensign Kim get more focus;
the return of Species 8472; 29th Century Borg; a new shuttle craft (Only Q
knows how they could have any left); and how about some orbital sky diving?
I'd just like to see some good stories. What a concept?
Get Your Trailer Here
Speaking of Star Trek: Insurrection, the trailer for that film, or at least
some shortened version of the trailer, is reportedly on the new film Deadman
on Campus. I have gotten some "reviews" of the trailer, but I just can't run
those. Come on, it's only a trailer. I think I can wait for the movie.

Well, for me, the price of a category of cards (or any collectible) is not
why I'd collect it. If you're looking to profit down the road from
spending money, then try mutual funds or life insurance<G>. As far as
error cards, specifically, I see there being 3 kinds:
1) a company estimates a release date, prints a card wit tat date and ten
has to reprint te card because of a delay.
2) the manufacturing process causes the error - like Kirk's red shirt or an
off-center card.
3) the company makes a mistake (spelling or data error) and decides to
correct the mistake on a subsequent run.
I might try to acquire all variations of type 1, if they're cheap. As to
type 2, my experience in collecting error coins and error paper money lead
me to feel it was an interesting sideline to coin/currency collecting, but
not something I'd want to spend a lot of time or money on. There's just
too much of it around. The third type would be my favorite, but I wouldn't
expect to see much of it today, with the way they seem to print a zillion
cards in the first run and don't do a second run unless there is a
Godzilla-sized demand.
Just my 90-cents worth (adjusted for inflation).
And, BTW, to go back to the "collectibles as an investment" thing, there
seems to be a lot of feeling among investors in general that collectibles
is a LOUSY way to invest your money. They say it's extremely speculative
and the time needed for a new collectible to grow significantly is 'way too
long. You have a much better chance of buying an item that's already old
(which means it's already expensive), but then you still run a big chance
of its decreasing in value from then on or suddenly becoming worthless.

I think collecting as an investment would be a terribly risky idea. Consider we
are likely to be the last generation of ST collectors. I mean, no kids are
gonna get into a hobby requiring hundreds of dollars per set to collect. THough
noone expected ST to last 30 years and likely will continue in one way or
another for quite awhile, one would think that trying to start collecting NOW
would overwhelm most people and cause them not to start. Noone wants to seem
doomed before they even start. Course the stock market isn't so pretty right
now itself///;)

UNLESS you buy the said item for WAY under its street value to begin with.
Which would make you an antique dealer. :)

I think it depends on what type of error. Some people consider miscut
cards an error where I personally think they line the bottom of my trash
can rather nicely. I also wasn't much interested in the TOS ones some
people found that had baseball stuff on the backs. I do collect some
though, like the Inaugural holo's, where some were printed with incorrect
numbers but others were printed correctly.

Will there be an equal number of each autograph, or will any be rarer
than the others? If the latter, which ones will be rare? How rare?
Is it true there will be no case topper or other dealer incentive cards?

does for the star trek franchise will be late too. I,ll bet ya! Eh!

As Gary pointed out to me tonight, the hold up may have been the autos (I didn't ask) Imagine
the coordination/organization required to get 20-36 people to sign their cards on time and
get them back. Since SKybox is commited to the 1 per box auto theory, I suppose it WILL
happen again

Anyone here of this one:
1991 25th Anniversary set: all cards printed and cut correctly, except they
have the wrong backs on them (similar problem as the 1992 TNG holograms).
My wife found about 15-20 of these in a couple packs in 1991. I held on to
them (thinking it would be cool to put together a set!), but could never
find anyone else who had seen them. I eventually traded them off for about
$25 in chase cards to someone who liked them more than I did. I thought it
was a good deal, but I hope they don't end up being worth a wad!
