I absolutely agree...I am a HUGE Colin fan..I was at a screening for his new
flick "Whatever It Takes" last night (which is why I just now finished SH).
the movie was awesome so please go see it on 3/24..anyway back to
Roswell..That was very cute how he volunteered himself for science..Loved
how he was so straightforward and blunt..LOL Katherine was awesome as
well...Loved the snapping on of the candles for M&L too! I am still in awe
of the episode b/c I just finished so I will write more later!

Roswell quotes that I just love:
Liz: "Alex, your paranoid schizophrenia, it's kicking in again."
Alex: "You're right, I'm gonna go to the bathroom and have a little talk
with myself"
Max talking to Liz after meeting with Topolsky the "guidance counselor"...
" Yeah, I just wanted to say hi. Uh. Just, uh, stepping out from behind the
tree. "
Liz's journal...
"The future was always so clear to me. A straight path towards my goal. I
just never counted on there being any intersections. I guess that's what
makes life more interesting. Keeping yourself open, letting new people in,
changing your mind. "
Michael to Max...
"The thing I realized is... the fact that my life basically sucks is a good
thing. It's easier. We always have to be able to leave, pack a suitcase

Agreed -- this time we got to seem them acting more like brothers or
friends, rather than being crisis-driven. I'd wager that this is more what
they were like before the day Liz was shot, and everything got complicated
for them.

Well, he's made some big steps towards emotional growth, starting with The
Balance. He still has a long way to go, however, and unfortunately, will
probably never truly be 'normal' or feel normal. And the fact is, he
obviously loves Maria, and now they've shared (or at least he has)
soul-seeing moments with her.

This was just too funny. That kiss was almost painful to watch. But you're
right -- Alex does get some pretty lame lines, and I'm always weary of 'teen
bands' on a show. I mean, you don't want to get too corny like the Partridge
Family. ("Come on, get happy!")

Okay, before I go too far in this -- and I haven't read many other posts
yet -- I think it is obvious that what Max and Liz were feeling was not 100%
human emotion. Their sensuality was caused by some outside agency, and not
of their free will. So the question is: was it Nasedo giving them these
feelings and thoughts, or was it just something within Max that sparked
Liz's feelings? Either way, it's still all too esoteric to even come up with
a good explanation for it.
Another possibility; Has Nasedo been *accidentally* killing many people
while trying to make this same 'connection' that Max and Liz has been able
to make? And if so, perhaps this kind of connection is, in fact, their key
to get home and/or discover themselves.
> respecting person alive during the '80's knows it can from "V"

Ah, I catch it every time it comes on the Sci-Fi channel. ;) Let's just
hope Liz isn't pregnant with [practically] Rosemary's Baby! LOL. If that
patch goes all the way around her neck, I guess we'll know. ;)
> thing I love about Roswell. Shiri has stated this in interviews

This is true. Kind of like 'V' was actually about Nazism, Roswell is
actually about teenagers discovering themselves (and growing up) and not so
much about the Aliens. Hence, this is why that plot always takes a back seat
to the relationships.

Yes, I'm really sad that this spoiler information is so wide spread, that we
might as well not even spoiler space it. But if we go back to 'Nasedo' is
evil, then perhaps he/she will indeed try to come between Max/Michael/Iz and
their loved ones for whatever diabolical reason...

That's a good observation! I'll have to re-watch the episode to see it, but
for those of you who don't know who this person was, she was a Mexican
painter from the early 20th century that largely drew self-portraits of
herself with scenes of torture and pain.
> B) Maria's line when speaking to Alex : "If they[Max and Liz] do

This is another reason why I don't think their feelings were 100% genuine,
because I don't feel Liz would say 'ok' to Max so soon.
> scenes, but I felt somewhat unsatisfied with the episode in terms
> of plotting is concerned.
I disagree here, because it was those 'connections' that were driving the
story forward (finally), and now we know a little bit more of the whole
crash investigation and their origin. If they're from another *galaxy*,
clearly this is a species that has a technology far beyond our own.
> between Max and Liz, I could be heard shouting, "This is the

That's true; I think episodes like Toy House and Independence Day go way at
the top of the list, while SH will coast along the middle of the list.
> might be good. Then again, no other show has survived that time

Actually, I think because of it's popularity, it's being moved to improve --
and gain -- a larger audience. Many people who have watched it, probably did
so because they were already watching Dawson's Geek, but now perhaps more
7th Heaveners will spill over into the viewership as well.
Anyhoo, thanks for your lines!

Yay! That's going to be such a good day! I LOVE Colin Hanks...and I'm going
to admit something here that only my best friend knows about...she thinks I'm
such a freak for it. I have such an ear fetish!!! One of my fav. things
about Colin is his EARS! They're so cuteeee!!! Jason, too!!! I know I'm a
dork, yeah yeah. But seriously, the 24th is going to be so cool! I'm going
to Disneyland with all the 8th graders in my school, and a Colin Hanks movie!
'Course, I won't be able to see the movie on the opening day...oh well!!!

Once again you had some great thoughts and before I say anything else, I =
must say that I love reading your thoughts and observations after every =
new episode.
I agree with pretty much everything, but there's one thing I'm going to =
comment on.
About the Dawson Creek vs Roswell conversation, I totally agree with =
you. It's one of the many reasons I love Roswell so much. They =
actually seem like sixteen year old kids by the way that they talk and =
the way that they act. I mean, remember in "In the Woods" where Maria =
was trying to make Max and Michael jealous about boasting about her and =
Liz's dates. With boys, no less. College boys, then she had to add. =
And these college men were taking them to a nice, fancy, expensive =
dinner. That was so realistic (and funny as well).
Watching Dawson's Creek is, in my opinion, sometime almost like watching =
Shakespeare. Okay, maybe not *quite* like Shakespeare, but the =
characters use different, unusual language. It flows, yes, but it =
doesn't sound natural. Roswell does not suffer from the same problem. =
(Yes, I know I'm repeating myself here.) For the most part it is nice, =
normal, everyday speech that everyone can identify with.
Okay, I'm going to stop before I start repeating myself too much.
Roswell Goddess aka Meg
6) Liz and her mom : Loved the big sex talk that Mrs. Parker tried to =
have with Liz and I loved Liz's reaction to her mom when she snuck back =
into her room and was caught. Shiri continues to amaze me with her dead =
on characterization of a 16 year old girl. I was watching Dawson's Creek =
tonight and listening to Joey Potter (Katie Holme's character) spout off =
a line of dialogue to the effect of "I feel like I just walked out of a =
Kafka novel" and I just died laughing. Not many people speak as smugly =
or securely as the characters of Dawsons Creek do, not many adults and =
certainly not many 16 year olds, and yet their dialogue continues to get =
more esoteric and ridiculous. That is another thing I love about =
Roswell. Shiri has stated this in interviews but she's absolutely right. =
The dialogue of Roswell comes from a really honest, truthful place and =
it's really effective. Liz was being a normal teenager when she got =
really emotional with her mom. Liz was trying to test the boundaries and =
claim a sense of self while feeling as if she could and should be able =
to do anything she wants with her body. Great scene and Shiri really =
rocked

I'm not sure if the system works this way, but it should. Since Michael is
still legally a minor, maybe he gets the money that would be going to his
foster parents if he had any? If he doesn't, then he should. I've also
heard theories that the Evans' loaned him the money to rent the place, but
I'm not sure if this is just someone's idea or if they heard it somewhere.

First of, before any flames me, I loved this episode. But there a few =
things in it that bugged me.
They didn't deal with the sex issue or at least not any of the =
reprocussions. No responsiblity, no protection, no anything. Granted, =
they didn't actually have sex (at least I don't think so) but they were =
close. And considering this is a show aimed at teens in the . . . =
(well, I was going to say 90s, but that's not true anymore, is it. What =
are we calling this decade? ) . . . they usually will say more on the =
subject. Especially when you consider they aren't even of the same =
species. There could be a lot of risks involved (as people have =
mentioned).
Liz's "fever" What happened to it? Did it go away? Or did Max just =
not notice it, being too "hot" himself? Or did I miss something?
And this last one is more of a personal thing, but I can't *stand* Mrs. =
Evans. Not the actress, but the character. She's just so naive. 'How =
did Max and Liz cause a disturbance cleaning chalk brushes?' (I know =
that's not the real quote, but I can't remember it and I've lent my tape =
out). Ugg. She just gets on my nerves for some reason.

Ugh, I know what you mean! The way she acted this episode and in Toy House
really bugged me. "I don't understand. Liz and Max were cleaning erasers when
they caused this disturbance?" and the way she acted in Toy House... ugh her
voice even grates on my nerves, and the way her face is so... droopy. (Not
offense to the actress)

see, i've never had that problem with dawson's creek. the kids at my high
school actually talked like that. i do agree that the Roswell dialogue is
more common, but it just wasn't my personal experience.

I agree with you about Liz's fever..what happened to it? As for her mother,
and all the parents..where were they during Blind Date??? If I was chosen by
a raio station and had the whole town following me..my parents would
definitely be doing the same thing? They should not be so shocked about Max
& Liz because they have all kinda seen it coming..or they should have if
they were better parents! The parental issue is the only writing flaw I find
in Roswell.
