  27. hope it wasn't him.  Aside from the fact that he was the absolute ONLY
  28. thing I liked about the whole PC High storyline, I think it's a cop out,
  29. frankly.  I think that it's much more compelling a storyline if Liz doesn't
  30. know her attacker.  Let them find him, sure, but I don't want it to be
  31. someone she knows.

  33. There are very different sets of emotional issues that have to be dealt
  34. with when the situation is acquantance rape versus some scumbag dragging an
  35. anonymous girl off a park bench.  And I think that it's just far too
  36. contrived for them to make it be someone that she knew at this point.  I
  37. think the anonymous version is much stronger with how this storyline has
  38. been set up and I really hope they continue to go that direction.

  90. i have a question regarding one of the gh 35th anniversary promos.  i 
  91. just caught it fleetingly one day last week, so i don't know whether i 
  92. saw what i thought i saw or not...

  94. it's the one that focuses on various couples over the years.  it starts 
  95. with steve and audrey, and then does still photos of various couples 
  96. (luke and laura, felicia and frisco, etc.) with dates under the picture.  
  97. i could SWEAR that the last photo in the promo was one of ned and lois, 
  98. labeled 1998.  did i dream that or what???  does anyone who remembers 
  99. that promo remember seeing that, or know what it ACTUALLY was?  or...if 
  100. i DID see that...does that mean lois is coming BACK?!?  (fingers 
  101. crossed...)

  146. the least important.  I think if they make Mr. Murdy the rapist then they

  185. On another "anniversary" note... Upon reflection, I am almost positive I
  186. saw some interviews in advertisements for the prime time show that didn't
  187. make it into the program itself.  Presumably that was because of time
  188. limitations, but the real question is--am I simply losing my mind?  In
  189. particular, I vaguely recall a segment with the actresses who play Robin
  190. and Anna....

  210. You know, Taiyin, I'm really glad you said that.  It's been bugging me
  211. since I read Danielle's post this morning.  While I don't think it beyond
  212. the realm of possibility that her attacker *is* someone she knows, I'll be
  213. disappointed if it does turn out to be the teacher.  First of all, I don't
  214. like the notion of the teacher being the obvious scapegoat--it's cliche and
  215. disturbing, and a cheap way of playing on parents' fears that anyone could
  216. take advantage of their child.  Second, I think the notion that Liz may
  217. never find out the identity of her attacker is more true to life, and, to
  218. take the discussion back to the realm of soaps <g>, has better dramatic
  219. potential.

  221. On the other hand, I'm willing to cut Guza some slack and hope that he's
  222. just playing on the fact that Liz is going to suspect *everybody* for a
  223. long time, until she manages to return to some semblance of a normal life.
  224. I really hope that's the way this development plays out.

  281. My own obvious bias aside, they are currently the only totally happy,
  282. serious, content, marriage-bound couple on either show.  And they've
  283. certainly been around enough, and together long enough to warrant it.
  284. Geez, the only other couples I can even THINK of are Alan and Monica (who
  285. wouldn't be put in there with this year's date, anyway), Joe & Karen (who
  286. haven't been together long enough to be THAT serious), and Kat & Bat (and
  287. you all KNOW my feeling about them).

  355. Wow, did I stir something up today. This is such a DEEP conversation
  356. going on, but everybody is on the same page. It's scary to think that
  357. this can happen w/a teacher, but the Soaps don't throw a character into
  358. a scene like that w/out a reason.

  368. that was the guy who cut her some slack about stealing the test. You
  369. could see how he could use that against her. And imagine Lucky finding
  370. out it was him. Geesh!!! I could see him go a lil' whacky...ala Luke! I

  443. setting it up to LOOK that way...but i'm hoping (somewhat perversely, 
  444. because i HATE these stupid storylines...but i'd hate them making it him 
  445. even more) that this will be one of those oh-so-predictable 
  446. mistaken-identity things.  but then...i guess...that would also make 
  447. guza a liar, because the whole false-arrest thing would make the

  490. True.  I'm hoping, though <knock on wood>, that Cagey is right:  they are
  491. trying to show that Lizzie is still so freaked out by the whole thing that
  492. she suspects just about everyone.

  494. I also agree with Cagey, that I think laying it on Murdy is a very cheap
  495. trick -- not to mention horribly cliched.

  501. And that is what's nagging at me about this.

  503. And it's also the biggest reason that I hope they don't do it.  They showed
  504. a really cool teacher, who related to his students, tried to h*lp them out,
  505. cut them some slack and didn't play the "heavy-handed parent" role with
  506. them.  He was the kind of teacher that kids hope they get.  I have a
  507. problem with them turning around and basically saying, "Oh, no, the only
  508. reason he was so nice and understanding to his students, especially Lizzie,
  509. is because he wanted to rape her."  Pfft!
  510.  
  511. I think that's a deplorable message on one level, and I think it's cheap,
  512. two-dimensional drama on another level.  I think the whole thing would be
  513. so much more complex and interesting for the characters if Lizzie had to
  514. come to grips with the fact that she might never find the guy who did it,
  515. or if she could never understand why some stranger would grab her out of
  516. nowhere like that -- without knowing her.

  521. Well, I think that is pretty likely no matter WHO they end up pinning it
  522. on.  Lucky will probably go postal no matter what.

  524. I also think that they brushed over something rather conveniently when
  525. Lucky and Liz were talking:  they pointed out that 80% of all rape victims
  526. who come forward know their attackers.  What they neglected to point out is
  527. that most of that 80% are "date rape" scenarios, and the remainder are
  528. generally people like caretakers or building maintenance crew members who
  529. are obsessed with someone they see all the time.  
  530.  
  531. And part of the reason that those women come forward is BECAUSE they
  532. recognize their attacker.
  533.  
  534. Now, aside from the fact that, technically, Mr. Murdy could qualify under
  535. the "obsessed" category... that's just so contrived.  Especially since Mr.
  536. Murdy was about the only adult that Lizzie actually liked.

  695. heavier Australian accent that I can hardly make out what he's saying.
