  31. Now regarding Brenda and her various love interests--I thought she and
  32. Sonny had incredible chemistry, but I think he'd exude charisma if
  33. paired with a troll.  The guy could "act", plain and simple. I'd like to
  34. see him come back if only to play opposite Luke. They were truly equals.

  58. Brenda made her look *so* bad.  My sister, to this day, does this thing
  59. where she'll flip her hair over to one side, get a glazed look in her eyes,

  119. true, true.  and i loved him with robin and stone, and jason.  i 
  120. DEFINITELY liked him much better than brenda, even back when brenda used 
  121. to be a character i could stomach for more than five seconds at a time.

  123. incidentally, taiyin...yes, i actually DID watch the brenda/jax 
  124. proposal, although i COMPLETELY understand the ff urge!  but truly, it 
  125. was great comic relief!  (and REALLY good target practice, too, when 
  126. brenda started the bit about only ever being happy when she was with 
  127. jax.  i'm getting REALLY good at nailing her right between the eyes with 
  128. all SORTS of objects.  tv guide is particulary aerodynamic.)

  590. That's all I could come up with.  But they didn't really make it clear
  591. enough.  I mean, if after Mac said that, they had cut to a shot of Tess
  592. looking as nasty as she can muster, then cut back to Felicia's weird look,
  593. I could have seen it.  This way it's like they cut off an extra line or

  667. though.  There is just so much meat to this story and I'm really glad that
  668. she is being able to prove she can handle it so well.

  884. THE producers of "General Hospital" are about to take a
  885. sledgehammer to the popular myths surrounding the storybook
  886. romance of daytime's most famous couple: Luke and Laura. 
  887.  
  888. Starting tomorrow, the long-running ABC soap will begin a
  889. multiweek storyline in which young Lucky Spencer (Jonathan
  890. Jackson) finds out that his father Luke (Anthony Geary) raped his
  891. mother Laura (Genie Francis) months before the two became
  892. lovers. 
  893.  
  894. Lucky's discovery will allow "GH" to revisit the sordid origins of
  895. Luke and Laura's relationship - details which are
  896. well-remembered by the soap's hard-core fans, but which have
  897. been virtually ignored by the soap for nearly 20 years. Geary says
  898. he was shocked when the "GH" writers told him about the new
  899. storyline. 
  900.  
  901. "My first reaction was that it was a big can of worms that could
  902. eat us alive," Geary remembers. "I was terrified, basically." 
  903.  
  904. Casual viewers who know of Luke and Laura only from the
  905. couple's high-rated 1982 wedding might be shocked when they
  906. find out the real story behind the romance. 
  907.  
  908. Back in 1979, Luke Spencer and Laura Baldwin were merely
  909. good pals who worked together at Luke's Campus Disco. Laura
  910. was married, but the sexual tension between the 17-year-old
  911. Laura and the older Luke was clear. 
  912.  
  913. Luke finally acted on his attraction to Laura one late night in
  914. October 1979, when Laura discovered him crying at the Campus
  915. Disco's bar. Worried that he's about to be killed by mobster
  916. Frank Smith, Luke admits his love for Laura. 
  917.  
  918. "It's like some kind of sickness, eating me up - and I can't
  919. concentrate on anything. And in my business, that's dangerous,
  920. baby," Luke told Laura. 
  921.  
  922. After telling Laura that he's constantly dreaming about "holding
  923. you in my arms and making love to you," Luke then forces her to
  924. dance with him as Herb Alpert's "Rise" plays in the background.
  925. Laura pleads with Luke to let her go home, but instead, he rapes
  926. her (though viewers never see the act itself.) 
  927.  
  928. Rather than turn Luke in to the police, Laura fell in love with her
  929. attacker - and married him three years later. While the rape has
  930. been mentioned since then, "GH" producers tended to portray the
  931. incident as a "seduction" instead of what it really was: rape. 
  932.  
  933. "They probably downplayed it," Pat Fili-Krushel, president of
  934. ABC Daytime, told The Post yesterday. "But what they were
  935. trying to avoid was sending a message that women fall in love
  936. with their rapists." 
  937.  
  938. Now, ABC and "GH" are trying to send another message: Rape
  939. is rape - and it's always bad. 
  940.  
  941. "It was not acceptable then, no matter what the town said or the
  942. press said," says "GH" executive producer Wendy Riche, who
  943. was not with the show during the original Luke and Laura
  944. storyline. 
  945.  
  946. Still, "We didn't approach it as "let's make amends'," Riche adds.
  947. "We didn't feel guilty or felt like we had to." 
  948.  
  949. The new storyline begins tomorrow when Lucky's half-brother
  950. tells him Luke raped their mother, Laura. Lucky tries to find out
  951. whether the charge is true - and next Friday, March 13, Lucky
  952. will confront Luke with the rape accusation. On Monday, March
  953. 16, Luke will explain what happened, delivering an emotional
  954. five-minute monologue. Since Francis is not currently on the
  955. show, Laura will not be involved in the plot.

  1250. Lucky Uncovers Disturbing Hospital Records

  1252. Nikolas' accusations about Luke's past with Laura hit Lucky hard. He 
  1253. attacks Nikolas' words with the force of a true Spencer. Believing 
  1254. there's a possibility that the information was wrong, Nikolas questions 
  1255. Stefan about the facts. Stefan assures him that it is all true, but 
  1256. warns Nikolas that Luke will retaliate if he learns where Lucky got the 
  1257. scoop.

  1259. Knowing of Scott's relationship with his mother before Luke came into 
  1260. the picture, Lucky turns to him for answers, but finds him 
  1261. uncooperative. Later the GH records department confirms Lucky's fears 
  1262. when he discovers some disturbing documents. Meanwhile, Lucky continues 
  1263. to be Liz's biggest support as she deals with the repercussions of her 
  1264. rape. Dealing with her problems serves to emphasize the pain and 
  1265. humiliation of what she went through.

  1267. ABOUT THE KIDNAPPING: Jason and Carly are staggered to learn that baby 
  1268. Michael has been kidnapped. Jason wants to handle the situation his own 
  1269. way, but both Taggert and Garcia have plans of their own. They suggest 
  1270. that Jason and Carly keep quiet about the situation, but Carly insists 
  1271. on calling Bobbie, who throws it back in Carly's face that she is the 
  1272. cause of her baby being in danger. Meanwhile, the authorities believe a 
  1273. Quartermaine is the prime suspect.

  1277. Brenda Will Do Anything to Win Back Jax

  1279. Brenda is trying to woo Jax the way he wooed her but it's not really 
  1280. Brenda, explains head writer Robert Guza, Jr. She gives him a set of 
  1281. adventure books and gets him his favorite Irish oysters. [oh GAG!!! i'm 
  1282. sorry, i COULDN'T let that pass without comment...julie]  Jax enjoys 
  1283. being on the receiving end, but he doesn't reciprocate Brenda's romantic 
  1284. overtures. "The central issue is that Brenda has chosen Sonny," Guza 
  1285. continues. "She has to get past Sonny, and deep down they both know that 
  1286. Jax is wildly amused and having a great time with all of these 
  1287. extravagant gestures and fun stuff, but he still knows that wall between 
  1288. them has not been dealt with."
  1289.  
  1290. Although Jax knows Brenda loves him - and he also knows he loves her - 
  1291. he doesn't know if they will wind up together.  [obviously he hasn't 
  1292. been reading any of guza's numerous interviews.  -j ] Guza notes that 
  1293. Jax is "the huge risk taker - that's the big gamble. He loves the game 
  1294. above everything else. He's the corporate raider who buys up all these 
  1295. companies and sells them off because there is no challenge in running 
  1296. them. The challenge is in the conquest. This is the one challenge he 
  1297. can't be sure he will win." [yawn]
  1298.  
  1299. The uncertainty of their future will come into even stronger focus 
  1300. shortly when a dramatic turn of events stops being humorous and becomes 
  1301. life-and-death. "In the course of this mini-arc," Guza says, "Brenda has 
  1302. to deal with a situation in which she has to come to terms with her 
  1303. horrible anger against Sonny."

  1309. Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) welcomed her first child, a girl, Kate, in Los 
  1310. Angeles early the morning of Feb. 24. Mom and baby are doing fine. Among 
  1311. the actors who have auditioned for the role of Jerry, Jax's
  1312. brother, are Don McVicar, who is on the recurring status as Clarke on 
  1313. B&B, and Michael Corbett, ex-Michael, Ryan's Hope.

  1317. SPRING PREVIEW

  1319. The effects of Liz's rape continue to be far reaching. And even though 
  1320. there will be some resolution in the "whodunit" aspect, much more 
  1321. important are the psychological ramifications of the unfolding events
  1322. on people such as Lucky, who finds himself in the throes of reconciling 
  1323. himself with Luke's deceit. In his anger and devastation, Lucky winds up 
  1324. aligning himself with Luke's most dangerous adversary. Luke is also 
  1325. furious and goes after Stefan and Nikolas. The whole melee drives a 
  1326. further wedge between Bobbie and Luke. Look for everything to come to a 
  1327. head at a huge social event at Wyndemere.
  1328.  
  1329. Everyone is a suspect in Michael's kidnapping, but once the guilty party 
  1330. is discovered, according to Guza, "The punishment isn't quite what was 
  1331. anticipated for the guilty party, so Carly will take the law into her 
  1332. own hands."
  1333.  
  1334. Carly makes another bold move when, for the first time in her life, she 
  1335. begins to understand what it feels like to be secure. As she gets closer 
  1336. to her son and knows she can depend on Jason, in typical Carly
  1337. fashion, she goes a little overboard and jeopardizes that security. At 
  1338. the same time, Carly's behavior brings out the fighter in Robin that 
  1339. we've so rarely seen.
  1340.  
  1341. Brenda continues her campaign to win Jax back despite his resistance, 
  1342. but the situation takes a much more serious turn when she and Jason are 
  1343. thrown together in a life-or-death situation, propelling Brenda
  1344. back to what happened at the altar with Sonny. Guza says the 
  1345. relationship between Brenda and Jax reaches a climax, and adds that, 
  1346. "The thing that's been between them all along comes between them for
  1347. one final time."

  1349. Tess and company finally make their move on their target - Jax - but, 
  1350. "The person who gets it is not the person we think is going to get it," 
  1351. says Guza. "And the person behind it is not who we think is behind it." 
  1352. A new character will be introduced following the attempt on Jax's life. 
  1353. Through all of this, Mac and Felicia are stuck together.
  1354.  
  1355. Tony continues to battle the demons that took him over when B.J. died. 
  1356. Alan, too, is waging war with his own demons, and Taggert pursues him 
  1357. with a vengence in order to get to Jason. When Alan's drug supply begins 
  1358. to dry up, desperation takes over. Ultimately, Alan's problem claims 
  1359. other victims, including people he cares about very deeply - people who 
  1360. are going to suffer as a result.
