I am surprised that the concert seemed to go so badly for you. I attended the show in St. Louis, at Riverport, and would have to say that I enjoyed the show very much. Granted, the set list was not the set of songs I would have picked, but he has the play people's favorites and stuff from the new album. If he didn't go on tour to promote an album, he probably could do songs that are more unique or of more variety. Overall, I would say I enjoyed the set list though. I don't think any artist ever plays to the extremely hard core fans, because it would be almost impossible to please them. These fans know every song and have their own personal favorites for their own reasons. I love the song "7 Days." I love the emptiness of the verse, along with the timing and ascending bass line during the chorus. I also find it to be a very fun song.
BOTN was a disappointment though, but it was not because it was too long, instead, I don't remember the chorus being played from that song at all. It's not as jazzy as the "bring on the night" version, but the players he's with now are different too. I was also surprised when you thought that Manu's playing was energized. I would have to say that I found it rather bland. During BND, he wasn't doing anything more than keeping time. "I'm So Happy" was actually pretty bland too, but he pulled someone from the audience to sing it with him, so it was ten fold better for us. Overall I would have to say the concert was great, but different shows mean different receptions.

Does anyone know where i could find a copy of the message in a box guitar book. I found one website, but it listed it at $70. I'm sure there has to be a cheaper copy somewhere. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey, you guys are really irritating me, are we fans because he smells nice, or are we fans because we love his music. If you smelled bad because of one thing or another, would you like being ridiculed, you guys are acting like kids on the playground, have a little compassion for people. He is still just human, and don't try to tell me that you have never stunk before. GEEZ. Sally

oh how I can totally relate to this " frontrowitis " before this year I had
a hard time getting tickets let alone good ones . but this year i have been
so fortunate to have the combination of funds & being at the right place at
the right time I've met sting & the rest of the band it's been like a dream
come true! so, on that note i'd like to say to everyone try to get as close
as possible when you can, treat yourself to that outrageously priced ticket
at least once in your lifetime it's totally worth it !
Michele
P.S. I need front row tickets for Hershey Park!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey! Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey!
Who's limiting this fanbase to people who can basically walk to the concert? <g>
If it wasn't on a damn Tuesday night, I'd be there. And I'm smack dab in the middle of Illinois! 15 hour drive, mister!!!
<ahem> Just felt I needed to stick up for those of us who were under represented in the assumption that Tuesday will simply discourage Philly, DC, and Canada (etc.) fans.
<G>
Oh, and anybody who gets this that wanted to see that guitar pic that I said I'd scan almost a week ago... I flubbed. I will get that out.

Sting
Sting will close out his summer tour in support of Brand New Day with a free concert in New York's Central Park on Sept. 12. Best Buy, in association with NYC 2000, is staging the concert to herald the opening of its first 15 of a planned 40 retail stores in New York and New Jersey.
The 25,000 free tickets will be distributed starting Sept. 7 via a guerilla marketing plan. Three marked vans will scour the city's burroughs with a team of six people per van. Ticket seekers are to go up to the van and say, "I want Sting tickets." A CD will then be given to the hopeful fan and scanned on the spot. It will either reveal two free tickets or a performance of Sting which can be played on a CD player or computer. The live performance, although free, will be limited to 25,000.
The 8 p.m. concert at the East Meadow will be simulcast via Westwood One radio network and will be the only major Central Park concert this year.
Best Buy is also offering consumers nationwide the chance to win one of 15 trips to New York with round trip airfare for two, two hotel nights, and two tickets to the concert with preferred seating. To enter, go to Bestbuy.com and click on the "Sting" icon on the music or movies home page of the Web site from Aug. 13-30.

I have a ticket for the MGM Grand (August 19) show for sale. With service charges it came to $50, however I am willing to sell it for $25. I admit it's not the best seat in the house, but it's a seat nonetheless. It's located in Section 102 Row HH. Please contact me if interested and maybe we can meet outside the venue before the show.
Thanks!

I remember him saying once that he purposefully sings in a key that's
difficult for women to master. I'd love to hear him with Sarah McLaughlin!
Can't imagine him with Madonna, but I'm all for it.

Maggie, Bill, Deb, Paul, Jen, Harold & wife (Irvine only) attended the Irvine and Vegas shows and have nothing but praise to pass on to Sting and the band. These shows were among the best we have ever seen, we agreed. Of course we're drunk and in a hotel room in Vegas at 3:45 in the morning. We expected no set changes, and little interaction, and because of this frame of mind, we partied like we never have before. These shows rawked!!!! Such energy, such crowd response, cooperative security, and to top it all off, oohing and ahhing at Michael Jordan gambling in the MGM casino Sunday morning.
At Irvine, Dominic smiled and smiled and smiled. Sting's voice was well-rested and perfect. The band was in unison. Kipper and wife were seen walking the amphitheatre grounds before the show. What a nice, nice man. We thought we were in for a treat, as Sting nearly made it through the entire show without uttering one word except for band intros. But......during Message (in a Bottle) a beautiful young girl was screaming very loudly. Sting stopped his lyrics, and said "Please madame, stop screaming. I'm trying to sing a song here." It was hilarious, a real show stopper. Deb will have to tell you about her adventures with security during the ENTIRE show.
Las Vegas was even better. You see, we drove over after the Irvine show arriving in Vegas at 4:30 in the morning. Surprise...Tomorrow We'll See was substituted for Moon (Over Bourbon Street). Was really special. Sting spoke a few more words tonight, and the beautiful belly dancer returned to the stage. By the way, as I write this, Paul is snoring very loudly. It is not even his hotel room.
We wore Krispy Kreme hats during Fill Her Up to stand out in the crowd. Much to our surprise, nearly the entire audience pulled out their hats and neatly placed them on their heads. Boy did we no longer feel special! At one time or another we all rushed the stage, conveniently ignoring the many security guards (who were dressed in very dapper tuxedos). Maggie, Paul, and Jen made it up to the stage from the 14th row in 1.3 seconds flat during When the World and bonded with Sting for several minutes. After Fragile, we all ran up and thanked the band.
Deb and Bill were asked not to stand up (these were floor seats mind you), as most of the crowd remained seated and calm until Every Little Thing (She Does is Magic). We danced anyway. This, despite Sting's insistence that we stand up and be counted (at least every boy and every girl anyway).
Paul wants everyone to know he is going to San Diego Sunday for that show. Here is a warning for any that happen to come his way...DON'T let him visit your donut collection in your hotel room. The donuts will be gone but Paul won't.
Everybody needs to chill out and enjoy these shows while we still have Sting. His concerts are still remarkable and fresh. Go early and go often!
Bill, Maggie, Paul, Deb, Jen

Just wanted to share.... I was contacted by my Barnes and Noble today that
they took the Sting poster out of the window and it is mine to claim!! Now I
have to find the perfect spot somewhere in my house. I cant wait to go and
pick it up!! I hope some of you made the same effort and got the poster.
If not, good luck, the posters are being removed today.

You are so right!! I've been a major Mellencamp fan for almost 20 years now. I'm also on the Mellencamp list, so I'm hearing all the reviews from people who are going to the free shows. It is so cool of John to do these shows. He hasn't hit Columbus, Ohio yet. Still waiting!!

around us seemed to be scared to stand and have fun. At one point I
turned around to all the people and asked them if this was they're first
time at a concert, which brought a few smirks and a few people stood up
after that. >>
Good for you Mike!! I wished I would have done that when Sting was here in July. I just never sat down!! Everyone, do this if you have problems with people yelling at you to sit down. Make them look darn stupid!! LOL!!
