**** That was hilarious, Gene ... you made me laugh there
... saying it was "Minus 5 out of 5" ... at first reading
your comment and seeing -5/5, I was thinking you really
meant 5/5 of course, but the next line explained everything
... I was laughing out loud, hehe !
Well I think it's the best horror film of the 1990's and it
would be in my Top 50 favorite films of all times so we
will never agree on that one !
Cheers anyway !
Marc ;-)

Here's what they say about the film in the french version
...
"Two slackers, Chester and Jesse, are trying to get back on
their feet after a wild night ... They discover that their
car has been stolen. The two dummies try to find it and
have a wild adventure ..."
hehe !!

trick ... It's good, but I've seen this before of course !
The film is oh-so "Disney-sized" though ... and it is
annoying in part ... Disney studios backed this film so
there is no profanity, no harsh language, etc. I found it
hard to believe that in those times (Early '70s) and with
the amount of tension in that town (and that team !) with
the new black coach coming in and all, that nobody uses the
"N" word ... strange !!
It was so obvious they were trying to avoid it ... in some
cases they exaggerate with the "N" word like in "Men of
honors" where they were hammering it but in this film it
would have made it more realistic ...
Good acting ... the dialogues are a bit sappy-la-la,
ra-ra-la-la and bla-bla-la-la (!!!) though but I was
always interested anyway ...
The young football players are all good too but I wished
they wouldn't be singin' so often as they keep doing it
every 10-15 minutes ... It was getting on my nerves by the
end ! also an unbelievable twist at one point ...
** minor spoiler **
Will Patton is the assistant coach ... at one point he asks
one of the boys on the team to turn from offensive player
to defensive player (or the opposite, I forgot !) without
even talking to the head coach (Washington) about it !! ...
I was thinking, Oh please ... stop it !! This would be
highly unlikely, Washington would have been enraged, no
doubt ! He's supposed to run the show after all !
FYI
Leonard "Star Wars' fanatic" Maltin : 3/4
Roger Ebert : 3/4
James Berardinelli : 3/4
Note : If you are not a football fan, I doubt you would
like this film though ! The quick editing makes it hard to
follow sometimes as well.

Subject: [MV] Smiling fish & Goat on fire - 1999
Good title, huh ?? Now *that* is what I call a title !! Yes
!!
Good film about two brothers who live together in the same
house they grew up in. Their parents died a few years ago.
One is very serious and works as an accountant and the
other is more "flaky" and is a struggling actor trying to
make it.
They both have lovely girlfriends when the film begins but
things fall apart quickly ... soon they each find someone
else that is completely different from the previous girl
they were with. Intriguing idea ... The actor becomes more
serious and the accountant get a bit wilder ! Also a nice
side story about a friendly old man who works in the same
office as the "serious" brother. They also have to deal
with the ex-girlfirends of course, issues ...
This is a good lil' film. Low budget, independant ... Good
acting, dialogues, A couple of nice love stories ... The
ending is also quite intriguing and clever, the last 3
minutes made me think : "Awhhhh .. how sweeeeeet ..." ...
I didn't know anyone in the cast but they were all
appropriate.
Try to find it if you like those indie films !
Note : The characters swear a bit too much though, it's not
so bad but they could have cut down on that !
