Subject: [MV] UNBREAKABLE (No Spoilers Here)
I just wanted to share some quick thoughts on UNBREAKABLE without spoiling
anything for those who haven't seen it. I really liked it, although I think
that pre-conceived notions about the film might ruin the experience for some.
I have some tips for those who intend to see it:
1. This is not THE SIXTH SENSE PART 2, despite the involvement of Shyamalan
and Willis. 'Nuff said.
2. This is not a film for everybody. Pure and simple. While many folks in
the mainstream can (and have) enjoyed the film, it actually caters to a select
audience. I cannot name that audience, however, without giving a minor
spoiler for the film.
I do want to discuss this film with those of you who have seen it, but in
another thread that's clearly marked for "Spoilers."

Subject: [MV] trailers
I would like to say something about the trailers that play before the films I go and see. While I like most of them that play there are some which really make me mad. I saw the new trailer for Castaway and was totally disappointed. In my opinon it gave the entire film away. Why would what to go and see this film if I saw all of it in two minutes? When will film makers make trailers that don't give up all the information about a film. I like trailers which give a nice idea what the film is about. I think the trailer for Unbreakable gives a good idea without giving anything. What do others think about this topic?

I agree with you. However, real-world data shows that most people actually
prefer these *tell-all* trailers. Like it or not, these trailers get butts in
the seats. UNBREAKABLE is getting some mixed reactions from people who were
disappointed in it, and who probably wouldn't have seen it had the trailers
given them more information as to what it was about. Due to its crafty
marketing campaign, the film actually receives gasps of surprise in the
opening few seconds and people wonder if they are in the right theater. Go
figure...

I just find it dishearting that people want to go and pay 7.75 (that is the price in my town) to go and see a film which will not surpise them. If I know what will happen then I am less likley to go. But, that is just me. All I ask in a trailer is get me excited about seeing a film. I also saw the trailer for Dungeons and Dragons which made me what to see it. Having not hear anything about it the trailer made me interested. People are going to see films they think will entertain them. For me atleast this means dont give away everything.
