At last, a post about movies.
Last I heard was that a script "premise" had finally been approved
and was due to have gone to production some months ago, but hasn't
because they just can't get the script right (pity that didn't stop
the makers of Halloween: H20).
Kane Hodder and Robert Englund are both keen to make it, Wes Craven
is not a fan of the concept, but it's not his property so there's
nothing he can do about it. If the movie is made at all, it won't be
for some time.

VENICE, Italy (AP) - You could hear a buzz in the air on Day 2 of the
Venice Film Festival. The movie generating the stir was a quirky,
surreal comedy called "Being John Malkovich," starring - who else? -
John Malkovich, directed by Spike Jonze. The film, which premiered
Thursday, is Jonze's first feature film. But he already had a cult
following thanks to a string of award-winning music videos for the
Beastie Boys, Puff Daddy, Bjork and REM; commercials for Coca-Cola,
Nike and Nissan; and short films featured at several festivals,
including Sundance. At first blush, Jonze seems an unlikely character
to generate excitement. Despite the hip moniker, he's a short guy
with a high, nasal voice who wears his fair hair brushed forward a la
Bill Gates. His real name isn't even Spike Jonze; it's Adam Spiegel.
And his movie is, at heart, about wanting to be somebody else. "Being
John Malkovich," which also stars John Cusack, Cameron Diaz and
Catherine Keener, is funny, original and almost impossible to
explain.
"Being John Malkovich" is being screened at Venice in the "Dreams and
Visions" section of the festival, one of several showcases for fresh
talent. This year's festival, which ends Sept. 11, also features a
new award: $100,000 and 20,000 yards of film to a first-time
filmmaker.

(InfoBeat) - Average is good. At least that's the case with "The
Thirteenth Warrior," which got a hearty "OK" from "Flicks Picks" poll
respondents to win the semi-dubious crown of best pic of those
released Aug. 27. The Antonio Banderas historical sword-fest earned a
solid 50% "average" vote from InfoBeat readers, while another 19%
said "above average" and 13% said "great."
The other three wide-openers all received overwhelmingly "poor"
votes.
"Thirteenth," a Michael Crichton-inspired (based on "Eaters of the
Dead") and John McTiernan-directed tale, earned comments like these:
"Good Action Flick, could of been even better, but pretty good none
the less" and "average movie with decent action scenes and worn-out
plot." Besides seeming like a retread storyline ("Braveheart" came to
many a mind), viewers found a slightly convoluted story. "It had
potential to be a very good (but not quite great) movie, they just
decided to go a little too 'scatter shot' with the story."
>From there, your movie-watching went downhill. "Sucked big time!!!"
"better luck next time," and "down-right waste of time" could have
been comments from any of the other three releases.
"The Astronaut's Wife" was the least-worst film with only 32% of
"hate" comments, while "The Muse" logged a staggering 53% level of
dissatisfaction and "Dudley Do-Right" was a 51% un-fun fest.
"Slow" and "predictable" were the words of the day for "Astronaut."
The Johnny Depp/Charlize Theron film earned some suspense points but
most people thought they had seen this one before, in either
"Fallen," "The Devil's Advocate" or "Rosemary's Baby." "This movie
was overacted and badly written, it didn't answer enough questions
and the ending was just rotten," one pollee said. After "poor," 25%
of readers graded this one "average," while at the other end, just
10% said it was "great."
Brendan Frasier, who made somewhat of a name for himself in the
cartoon-to-bigscreen-genre with "George of the Jungle," must've swung
his vine into too many trees to sign up for "Dudley Do-Right." One
reader couldn't believe the film was so far off the mark: "I laughed
maybe 5 times, and the kids in the theater were not laughing at all."
Not everyone hated the film, however. Some 30% categorized it as
"great," getting more amusement out of it than they reckoned. "I took
my 6 year-old niece to see it, and wasn't expecting much. But I ended
up laughing all the way through it, and telling friends to go see it!
Is that weird, or what?"
Albert Brooks' "The Muse" received an amazing amount of "hate" mail,
but the offended 53% of respondents must not have bothered to rant,
because most comments were mild. "It didn't have a climate to a
definitive message or point. I walked away with no satisfaction. It
was like eating cotton-candy, it hits the spot for doing something,
but no fulfillment." Many found the film's ending to be the biggest
disappointment. "Not a bad movie. It started off well, but the ending
seemed rushed as if Albert Brooks didn't know how to end the movie.
Everyone was good in the movie except for Brooks who was whiny and
annoying. Unfortunately, he played the male lead." Here's one for the
punsters: "Moderately aMUSEing tale if you like Albert Brook's
self-deprecating humor."
Here are some other notable reader responses from the poll:
Quotes From "The Thirteenth Warrior"
- ------------------------------------
- - Good, pointless movie that was fun to watch.
- - Except for the three beheadments, it was fine.
- - Great action scenes, however I left feeling that the movie left two
angles hanging. Antonio Banderas relationship with the slave woman
& the deceitful son of the king??
- - Should have stopped after the 1st warrior.
- - 13 hunky men with gorgeous hair - what's not to like? Just cover
your eyes during the gore, which is plentiful.
Quotes From "The Astronaut's Wife"
- ----------------------------------
- - You can't stand the huge amount of electric hair gel.
- - This movie was overacted and badly written, it didn't answer enough
questions and the ending was just rotten.
- - Better premise than delivery. Not enough action, not enough
anything.
Quotes from "The Muse"
- ----------------------
- - Albert Brooks is getting a little tired and tiresome. There were
a few good lines but mostly yawns.
- - Great Hollywood insider film. Tons of laughs and Sharon Stone is
a hoot. The cameos are perfect and the story rolls right along
until the slightly abrupt ending.
- - Albert Brooks needs to get a life. Tired of seeing pathetically
hopeless people acting like they can't find their way out of a
paper bag. If it wasn't for Sharon Stone, this movie would have
been an even bigger dog than it is!!
Quotes from "Dudley Do-Right"
- -----------------------------
- - "Metro" was bad, "Virus" was horrible, but I would rather watch
either of those than sit through this crap again.
- - Dudley do-stupid.
- - Very cute for kids. Brendan is at his usual best comedic talents.
- - No point to movie per my 9-year-old.
- - Was a little lame - but then so was the cartoon. My daughter
(age 7) liked it - my husband fell asleep in the theater.
*** Vote early, vote often. Look for the Flicks Picks Reader's Poll
Tuesday in InfoBeat's Movie News.

LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) - It looks as if Warner Bros.
and Castle Rock Entertainment have a major hit on their hands.
Sources said the first test screening of the Tom Hanks starrer "The
Green Mile" in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Tuesday night scored in the high
90s - one of the highest ever for the studio. "That was the first
test screening - and I guess the last," one executive said. The film,
which currently runs three hours and one minute, might have five
minutes taken out by director Frank Darabont, but no other changes
are expected before its Dec. 17 release.

VENICE, Italy (The Hollywood Reporter) - As construction workers
scrambled to put finishing touches on the exterior of the Palazzo del
Cinema, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman lambasted the MPAA's decision to
give "Eyes Wide Shut" an R rating only if some of the extras' nudity
was masked digitally. "It's ridiculous," said Cruise, who appeared
Wednesday evening with Kidman at the film's gala screening, which
kicked off the 56th Venice Film Festival. "It should have gotten an R
(in its original form). It's not pornography." "We're very glad it's
being seen here in its completed form," Kidman said. Some Italians
have been less than enthusiastic about Stanley Kubrick's last film
after its European debut. Critical response has included complaints
that "Eyes" does not deliver the hard-core sex some critics said was
promised by Warner Bros. One critic went so far as to claim that
Cruise's suits in the film are two sizes too large, as opined in Rome
daily La Repubblica.
Controversy also erupted over two competition films from Chinese
directors: "Not One Less" by Zhang Yimou ("Raise the Red Lantern")
and "Seventeen Years" by Zhang Yuan ("East Palace, West Palace").
While "Not One Less" has cleared all hurdles with Chinese censors,
"Seventeen Years" is awaiting final approval from China's censorship
board before it can be shown.

PARIS (The Hollywood Reporter) - Culture may be overshadowed by
agriculture this weekend at the Deauville Festival of American Film
as a French farmers organization said Wednesday that it will stage a
demonstration in protest of U.S. domination of world trade. A
spokesman for the Confederation Paysanne (Peasant Federation) said
more than 200 farmers are expected to descend on the genteel Normandy
coastal resort Saturday, some with livestock in tow. He said the
demonstration will be "peaceful" and the group's members will offer
traditional farm produce to those attending the festival, which opens
Friday and runs through Sept. 12. The powerful French farming lobby
has a reputation for staging boisterous protests, typified by dumping
tons of fruit and vegetables outside ministries and town halls.

LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) - After falling out of Disney's
"Ace in the Hole," Bruce Willis is in talks to make "Outlaws" his
next film, opposite Val Kilmer. The picture will start shooting in
January. The movie, written by Harley Peyton, is based on a true
story about two bank robbers caught in a love triangle with a girl
who is presumed to have been kidnapped by the pair. The film is
described as a modern "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid."
-=> * <=-
LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) - After making her mark as the
Queen of England, Cate Blanchett, the Oscar-nominated star of Working
Title Films' "Elizabeth," is in talks to star opposite Tom Cruise in
the sci-fi thriller "Minority Report" for 20th Century Fox and
DreamWorks. Blanchett, repped by Hylda Queally at the William Morris
Agency, is in discussions for the role even though the actress, who
recently starred in David Hare's stage play "Plenty" and Oliver
Parker's feature "An Ideal Husband," has yet to receive a formal
offer. She is also set to appear in director Sam Raimi's "The Gift,"
a thriller scripted by Billy Bob Thornton and Tom Epperson, to shoot
in January.

LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) - Talk about anti-type-casting:
Swedish actress Pernilla August, who played Darth Vader's mother in
"Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace," has segued from that to
playing another mother. Only this time, it's Jesus Christ's. She's
filming the TV movie "Mary and Jesus" in Budapest, Hungary.

From the script I've read, basically you just give away a big interesting
plot development. But, depending on how that movie gets marketed, it might
end up being common knowledge as part of the movie's premise. So, that may
be nothing. No spoilers up here, but there will be some way down below on
this post. you will see my warning down there.
The premise of the movie is actually a millennium end of the world type deal
where cultists unleash krueger and jason to trigger a hellish new world. It
also would involve Alice from the Nightmare series, and the girl from the
Friday series who fried jase in numero 9. Reading the version of the script
I have got, which may NOT be the one used (as we know how that goes), I am
very impressed, as it gives the story a real plot, and a very good
backstory. It also has some underlying meanings and really kind of sums up
the entire friday 13 and nightmare series in one fail swoop. Good script for
this type of flick. Maybe one of the best for either set of movies ever(with
the exception of Nightmare I, yes the first, for me ). But, if it changes or
is done crappily, all bets are off. i think the millenium aspect will be
changed, as they can't get the movie done by the end of this year, but i
don't see that as all that important. End of the world stuff is fine without
that part i think.
NOW, If you don't wanna know more about the script, consider this a spoiler
warning. I unleash some, but not all, down below. and, that's just assuming
the script I read is the one used.... I still have it on Word format if
anyone's interested. Email me!

Remember how in New Nightmare, Freddy is basically a manifestation of an
evil spirit. Well, there is more backstory on that, and freddy comes back to
usher in some demonic new world at the turn of the century. Jason is sort of
like his underling. This is for a couple of reasons. he is an elm street
kid, which as dave said, he's the kid of one set of parents who torched
krueger. As the nightmare series went on, remember that eventually krueger
as well as alice and another couple of kids, could enter others' minds and
control their dreams. Thus, Jason has some extra powers. Not exactly dream
related, but....anyway, he can be controlled by krueger. Jason was a small
retarded child who was drowned at the lake by the evil spirit of krueger a
few days after he was torched. Now the deaths of freddy and krueger are told
in a most interesting flashback in a very cool way that ends up hingeing how
jason turns on freddy and the whole deal becomes f vs. j. I don't tell you
even everything here, but it is a good plot turn.
Now, Alice from Nightmare and the girl who is the distantly related Voorhees
from the end of the Friday series meet up in coincidences and then
interestingly switch around in nemesis a bit. That is, Alice ends up against
Jason at one point, while the other ends up facing Kreuger. I really liked
this script. i hope it does not change.

be nothing. No spoilers up here, but there will be some way down below on
this post. you will see my warning down there.
The premise of the movie is actually a millennium end of the world type
deal
where cultists unleash krueger and jason to trigger a hellish new world. It
also would involve Alice from the Nightmare series, and the girl from the
Friday series who fried jase in numero 9.
Good script
for
this type of flick. Maybe one of the best for either set of movies
ever(with
the exception of Nightmare I, yes the first, for me ). But, if it changes
or
is done crappily, all bets are off. i think the millenium aspect will be
changed, as they can't get the movie done by the end of this year, but i
don't see that as all that important. End of the world stuff is fine
without
that part i think.

Remember how in New Nightmare, Freddy is basically a manifestation of an
evil spirit. Well, there is more backstory on that, and freddy comes back
to
usher in some demonic new world at the turn of the century. Jason is sort
of
like his underling.
Now the deaths of freddy and krueger are
told
in a most interesting flashback in a very cool way that ends up hingeing
how
jason turns on freddy and the whole deal becomes f vs. j. I don't tell you
even everything here, but it is a good plot turn.
Now, Alice from Nightmare and the girl who is the distantly related
Voorhees
from the end of the Friday series meet up in coincidences and then
interestingly switch around in nemesis a bit. That is, Alice ends up

You are right, but that is the video release of Blair Witch Project, the
first one, not the proposed sequel.
Also, I have heard the date alternately as 29 October. Either way, it will
be out just in time for Halloween. And this is a first from Hollywood: A
big horror film released in October. Go check, they have been avoiding
Halloween lately, for some unknown reason, and it makes no sense to me.
